I purchased my gx660-053US last October and up until now it has worked fine. However, I was playing Arma2 when all of a sudden the screen went black and the computer became unresponsive. I tried opening the task manager using the ctrl + alt + del combination but that didn't work. After waiting for the computer to become responsive for several minutes, I then manually shut down the computer by holding down the power button. The computer turned off and then restarted however an "emergency screen"appeared (similar in style to the safe boot screen but with a different message). I dent have time to read the message before the laptop shut down.

Since this event I have not been able to turn my gx660-053US on at all. I hav tried removing the battery and using just the mains but this has not worked. Nor does the laptop work on the battery alone. I finally registered my computer with MSI and filed an online technical support form last Friday but have since had no word from MSI.

I am currently living in France and my laptop should still be under the global warranty that the laptop shipped with but when I registered it, on the MSI website it said that you have to register within 30 days of purchase for the warranties to be valid. This was not clearly written anywhere on the MSI package and so I had not registered my laptop until 10 months after I purchased it. There is an MSI computer shop near me in France that I found on the MSI website. If I get no reply from customer service about my problem should I just go straight to this shop?

Basically I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with their laptop (I.e their laptop did not turn on at all) and whether they had any solutions to this problems. Also what have people's experiences been with MSI customer service.

sorry to hear about your issues. although i have no suggestions for your problems, i can make a comment about msi customer support. they are pretty fair and they have been easy to work with, in my previous dealings with them. but then again, i had my notebook registered with them for the warranty right away and each time i had an issue, they took care of it.

also, it helps to have purchased through a reseller that will help you out in case msi becomes unresponsive. this has happened to me, too, but luckily my reseller (ken at gentech pc) helped me to get a quicker response. i'm sure if you can prove your purchase date with a receipt, you will be able to get some kind of support. good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I bought my laptop through J&R Electronics as they offered the laptop at the cheapest price at the time. I haven't tried calling them yet but I don't think that they would be able to help much seeing as they are a largish non-specialist electronics distributor.

it may not hurt to try the local MSI shop, but warranty coverage could be a sticky point. I would hope that producing a proper sales receipt would suffice

Might be worth trying some things to see if its a simple problem.

I think a lot of people will agree resetting the CMOS could fix it for some reason. You have to find this battery and unplug or short it. Do this while the laptop battery and ac adapter are unplugged of course.

Generally not a good ideal to short batteries the button battary can easily be removed without shorting it.
