Mobile Core i7 plus any announced/new GPUs by Nvidia or ATI surely would be the specs.

I hope they stick to ATI in the 17 inchers, im happy with what i got, and hopefully us old schoolers will have no issue upgrading to 5 series gpus from ati :D

    This is great to hear.
I think alot of people started suspecting that this was on the way when the 729 and 628 were cancelled. Though i still think MSI made a mistake by cancelling them so early.

    15 inch i7 core with a 5000 series would be heaven :D
If that ever comes true I'm selling my laptop ( and whatever I can get my grubby hands on) for those specs.
Even a Nvidia 300 series would be sweet.
Don't mind which way they go (AMD vs Nvidia) as long as they are both equal in power and price.
But AMD is sure putting out some cheaper and just as strong GPU's as Nvidia( If not stronger in some cases)
October can't come soon enough to see what comes our way!

Why did they back-peddle to DDR2 RAM? Figures they were trying to transit to DDR3 with the release of the GT729 and GT628, and all of a sudden, DDR2 memory again.

Are you joking? You do know that the 250m uses a 128bit memory? Yes, it has 96 nice shaders, but 128bit???? The only thing good is it's insanely low 28W power consumption. The 160m gts (lower shaders, but has double the memory bandwidth- 256bit) and the 4850 mobility will spank this piece of crap.

I wouldn't slam on the GTS 250m just yet; we still don't know what VRAM this particular GTS 250m will be mated to. If MSI's going with GDDR5, it'll perform better than the GTS 160m and not much lower than the GTX 260m.

Would i switch my 160m gts for the 250m? Yes, only because of the omg-low power consumption.

But this is not going to blow away my qx9300 + OC 160m.

Yes but that could possibly be a mistake, If its indeed GDDR5 then it will rape the GTS 160m, but if its not then MSI has got some serious issues.. Hopefully it will be the GDDR5 version.. :)

I also believe it will be DDR3 memory, I thinks thats a mistake also..

It does say at the bottom paragraph that the graphics might be different but either way, with the price vs performance, I am quite happy with what I have.

According to my friend google, 1399 euros is over 2000 dollars...

Despite the listing of GDDR3, if MSI wants to maintain their top product, they will use GDDR5, which will effectively make the 128-bit bus equal to a 256-bit GDDR3 product.

Yeah guys, gddr5 and 128mb bus memory width WILL NOT outperform the 4850.

Were on par with the gtx260m remember, so MSI need some serious issues mending fast!
If they are using ddr3 for it, thats real fail but even gddr5 isnt as strong without the bus width.

I like the chasis, but mines plain lol.

You know what I love? It's already been 4 months since I bought my GT725 and to this point nothing has been released (other than obscure European-only GT729s) that gives me a better price/performance ratio at this level. I am expecting that to change soon, but these two from MSI certainly will not be it.

GDDR5 moves twice the amount of data per second compared to GDDR3 at the same speeds, hence it in theory they should be equal - 256-bit GDDR3 and 128-bit GDDR5. If you read reviews of the desktop equivalents, the 128-bit GDDR5 HD 4770 consistently beats out the slightly slower clocked (~20%) 256-bit GDDR3 HD 4830 by about 20%. The GTS 250M should be on par with the 9800M GT, which is a step up from the GTS 160M in the GT 628. While not quite at the level of the GTX 260M and HD 4850, it would still be a powerful contender compared to the previous GT 628.

Yeah no doubt about it, it will be a strong competitor (and a good card for the 628 models) but for the 17inch books, the idea isnt to be going backward here and the card is still darn right handycapped with that kind of memory capability,

Im hoping the 5 series ati card come to mobility i really do, but we still havent got any GDDR5 cards released from them :( (the only 4870s in CFIRE had gddr3 or something).

Although speaking of cards, anyone checked out the 5870 or what not and compared it to the 4850 mobility? its got like 3 times the hardware and 3 times the memory bandwidth haha, its a killer :S

Here are some pretty cool comparisons,

Apparently Nvidia are adopting ATI's technique to reduce die and power requirements, which i have to add, the power requirements of the nvidia cards are very very nice.

Oh why they switched over for nvidia. Even if they dont have newest ati 5series cards, they should had kept 4850 or put 4870 in it. not happy with i7 too, 820 would have been better. Hope they will not be only models. The one specified barely beats 725/729

How is it handicapped? Total memory bandwidth is what counts in the end, regardless of the bus width and memory speed used. If 128 bit interface and GDDR5 enables the card to have the same bandwidth as a card with 256 bit and GDDR3, then why not go with it? That 128 bit width is not going to be crippled as long as it has the right VRAM to compensate for it. The Radeon HD 4770 has already proven this. There's nothing going backwards here; it's simply adoptation of faster memory to shrink die size, thus lowering cost and increasing production volume.

I wouldn't be surprised if this GTS 250m ends up having GDDR5. MSI is well-known for a lot of marketing discrepancies and errors on its website. I still remember the confusion a year ago over the GX620's 9600M GT having GDDR2 or GDDR3 because MSI listed it as DDR3 on one page, but DDR2 elsewhere.

Your trying to fit 5 cars down a single lane at the same time, it doesnt work like that, regardless of if the cars are doing 100mph (being fast) they still will take more time to get through the lane then say a lane that can fit 5 cars, and from what i understand, gddr3 and 128 bit bus couldn't use a whole gig of memory, i dont know what the case is with gddr5 like, but people find cards medium end due to the bus restrictions.

Either way, its NOT as powerful as the 4850, if it had the bus width expanded (knowning nvidia it will but as a different product) thats when we can be happy, but they should have stuck with the 4850's and atleast upgraded along that route.

15/16 inchers, yeah go for it, the 250 will definately work in that area, and with the awesome power requirement, MSI focused there main power on the 17 inch books, but they should use atleast gtx260+ in the gt72* or prehaps even wait just a weee bit longer for 3 series cards.

But then for all we know, i think this is going to be mainsteam anyway, technologys changing now, we will be seing new Cpus and Gpus, the lot, so we just need to find its place really.

I agree that MSI should use the GTS 250m in there 15'' lineup but they should either use the GTX 280m, 4850 1GB, or 4870 in there 17'', Its to early for them to use the 5000 series but they should use the 4850 at least..

Yeah, it'd make sense, and looking at the desktop 5k series, there obsurdly powerfull, 3 times the memory bandwith of ours, double and almost tripple transistors, ATI are off on one and it gets better with the heavy monitor support, what more could we ask for. :)

Oh yay, here's the oft-inaccurately used highway example. Data is NOT handled in one linear, single level path. Same goes for CPU, RAM, Hard drives, etc., anything that handles data. If the highway example is true, a computer would only be able to handle one task at a time.

Which system can fill a 2000 cubic centimeter container faster? System A using two nozzles injecting at 400 cc, or System B with four nozzles injecting at 200 cc?

You're right, it might not beat the MR HD 4850 (This GPU is already proven to contend with the GTX 280M), but assuming, again, it utilizes GDDR5, it'll come awfully close to the GTX 260M, or be a dead heat match. Look at it this way, the MR HD 4850/GTX 260M is rated at 60-75 watts, and the GTS 250M is a tad under 30 watt. For those that are complaining about temperature and fan noise during gaming, this might be your ticket.

I think we should wait and see if it's gddr3 or gddr5 before bashing it too much. If it's gddr3, then msi will receive hell for it... it wouldn't be the first time a company has done something incrediblely stupid...

If it's gddr5, i will be most eager to see some benchmarks.

Yeah but thats just it, the data is NOT linear, but it has to fit somehow, if the card cant keep up with all the instructions, its holding back on some true potential, it is without a doubt a VERY powerful card, but what im saying is, it could achive much more, it has like what 5+ghz of raw memory power?

Im not saying its bad, just saying that imagine if it had a 256bit, were talking a true killer card (but then they'd need to save that for 300 series GPU) so this must be nvidias mid rangers, which i believe were advertised as high medium end.

I definately want to see some benchmarks, but concidering ati 5 series and 300 nvidia series are around the corner, would it not make sense to put the full power hardware in the newer bigger books?

And the notebook with nearly be silent with that kinda power, even though its not bad under gaming anyway, they'l be like 0 need for full fan power.

I cant believe your already selling the m17x nacr? That thing has support for newer hardware also doesnt it?

The GDDR5 compensates for the 128-bit bus versus the GDDR3/256-bit 4850.

The day of 3dmark06 has also passed ^^

What laptop is that card in too? I've not actually seen it?

And yeah elec, thats what im hoping for too, a big bus and some gddr5 ram, i think the nvidia 3 series were going to be very good, i think even up to 384mb bus or something like that but im not to sure, people think itl be out later 2010.

Either way lets stop throwing things around, it would make sense to have 62* series msi and barebons come standard with a GTS 250m, the TDP is too hard to pass up and the power behind it is great too, but if MSI are going to stay competative, they should wait out the time for something a bit better to show up, Nvidia have personally said, the gts series cards were mainstream mid to lower high end, so lets just wait for what else they will pull out, the GT725-729 were renown for them being the first 4850s in the laptop, and they did pull pure competition very well.

Now i'd have one of them in the 17 inch machine :p

Havent read it all yet, but i did see someone mention that its as powerful as the gtx 295,

5 series ati is what MSI need in the big books :)

Imagine the mobile version, ATI just mega strink the dies and base technology exactly off the desktop counterpart, =)

Any idea if/when these will show up as whitebook/barebone (like the 1651 ID2)? I'm seriously contemplating a 1651, but i7 right around the corner makes me hesitate.

Is it possible to do a mobo switch on a whitebook system (I'm suspecting it's not, or at least not practical) and get an i7 into a 1651?

I'm such a sucker for the "next big thing", I'll end up waiting around until whatever uber-tech comes after i7 before I buy anything... ah well.

Yeah exactly what i thought to be honest, the gddr5 for lower bus is just a "compromise" we are exactly in the same performance band as we were, just alot less power (still i drool over how much power they've chopped off, atleast the 250s should work in the barebones.)

Although have you seen the m17x benches, theres obviously errors there haha (vantage at 4k...pfft lol) he needs to turn it out of power saver ;)

They also lowered the HD speed to 5,400 RPM as opposed to 7,200 in the GT725.

That's pretty inconsequential. Hard drives are so close in performance that the difference in day-to-day use is negligible.
