@Phoenix , sorry to hijack your thread, but do you have a completely stripped down W10 installation?
I need one, to temporarily install on a USB stick for school.

Negative, Mr. Fox showed me how to do it using the MSMG Toolkit but that toolkit doesn't work on the latest build anymore:

is the GT73VR, P870DM, or EVOC 16L have the same AC Adapter with the following specs:
AC/DC ADAPTER MODEL: ADP-330AB D
INPUT: 100-240V~4.4A 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: 19.5V==16.9A
DC PLUG: 3 PRONG
OUTLET: 4 HOLES
The AC Adapter of my MSI GT80S Titan (980m SLI) has broke down recently and I'm ordering a new one from Hidevolution.
http://www.hidevolution.com/330w-laptop-power-adapter-for-evoc-p775dm-p870dm-models.html - $165.00
http://www.hidevolution.com/957-16fxxp-101.html - $195.00
Someone in my previous thread pointed out that 330W AC Adapter for the P870DM is the same as the MSI GT80S AC Adapter but I would like to confirm it with more people before placing my order, if its confirmed that both have the same AC Adapter specs then I will get the one in the first link and save me $30.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

it's the same. the Clevos actually use an MSI adapter so that adapter you have is an MSI adapter. They're the same. In fact, I didn't even unwrap the new adapter that came with my MSI laptop. I am using the old Clevo one I had. I have 3 spare adapters. I am collecting them for the bad days

Where are you getting this information? What makes you say Clevo is using an MSI adapter? I believe Clevo was using a 330W AC adapter like those Alienware used to use (and a 300W prior to the 330W) long before MSI ever thought about it. They are not made by Clevo or MSI. They are made by Delta Electronics and the only difference between the Dell/Alienware and the Clevo/MSI version is the tip and the signal wire/chip crap used by Dell.Donald@Paladin44, Johnksss, Papusan and 4 others like this.

one time I ordered an extra power adapter from HIDevolution, then if I remember correctly it said MSI somewhere on the box...... I called them to say why did they send me the wrong power adapter? they told me they're the same, MSI uses the exact some ones and that's true, when I opened my MSI laptop's box, it has the same power adapter exactly. My power adapter is 330WLast edited: Feb 10, 2017Donald@Paladin44, infex, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this. -
Lol now I'll also have a total.of 4 adapters. And 2 y adapters.

Well, you are both correct, in a way. Both MSI and Clevo use the same Delta AC Adapters. Delta is the manufacturer. So, if we supply one ordered from MSI, it will come in an MSI box. If we supply it from Clevo it typically comes in a plastic bag. Either way, it is the same Delta AC Adapter.
Alienware uses the same Delta AC Adapter, but has a different connector.
. -
Yes, they are exactly the same part, you are 100% correct. Maybe I misunderstood, because I thought you were saying Clevo uses MSI AC adapters and I had never heard that before. MSI and Clevo use the same 330W AC adapter made by another company (Delta), and it is the same part (with minor internal variations to accommodate Dell's "approved" AC adapter nonsense) that Alienware used for the dual-GPU machines. I have an "Alienware" version of the 330W Delta adapter that I use with a barrel to 4-pin DIN adapter and use it with Clevo machines.Donald@Paladin44, Johnksss, infex and 1 other person like this.

Yes, we all agree on that. They are not an "MSI AC adapter" simply because MSI has chosen to use the same one. That was my only question/point.
Both brands can also use the new Eurocom 780W Laptop Power Adapter for EVOC P775DMx & P870DMx, & MSI GT Models but that does not make it an MSI AC adapter.
It's a subtle difference and not relevant in the grand scheme of things. I apologize if I made it controversial, because that was not my intent.
Nice to see you in the forum. Have a great weekend, Viv.Last edited: Feb 10, 2017Johnksss, infex, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this. -

yeah the only reason I said it's an MSI adapter is the power adapter I ordered had an MSI sticker in there, so I thought it was made by MSI. But now I understand it's a Delta adapter that is used for both MSI and Clevo
Be smart....be like t3h f0x!
jclausius, Donald@Paladin44, Johnksss and 3 others like this. -
Glad we got that all explained, because I was scratching my head thinking the same thing. Clevo is it's own just like MSI is, but they both used DE Adapters.
Donald@Paladin44, Spartan@HIDevolution, jaug1337 and 1 other person like this. -
I think I understand @Mr. Fox first statement the other way (remember my English
). Msi haven't used 330w psu a very long time. Clevo have used bigger Delta psu long time before Msi
And Msi is well known for the flimsy 180W psu along with 780/880m with BATTERY BOOST
Even with 4930Mx

Correct. MSI never had a 330W adapter until recently. And they never had a dual adapter ever....Until recently. MSI has made waves in the Desktop community, but is a bit behind in the Laptop community when it comes to power. They are far far far ahead with taking 1 machine and breaking that machine into like 4 to 8 categories to fit the masses. This is why they have so many different models.Papusan and Donald@Paladin44 like this.

Still in "pre-production" status. @Donald@HIDevolution says it will be a little while longer because I ordered the cutting edge model with the 4K screen, which is a new offering. Also, they're in the process of certifying @Prema BIOS on this model, which makes me very happy. That's definitely worth waiting for. I watched a video by @Mr. Fox showing Prema on another machine, and I'm loving all those unlocked options.Beemo, Spartan@HIDevolution, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -

There are 3 buttons: cooler boost, Media/Display Off?, Power Button - I have no idea until I read the manual.
The media/display off looks exactly like this:
http://prntscr.com/e78z8x
I tried pressing it it just lit up, tried hold pressing it and it just lit up, it doesn't turn off the display or anything. The cooler boost,, and the power off buttons works just fine though.Last edited: Feb 10, 2017 -

You need to have SCM installed for that function key to work. Install it and reboot, then push the switch and it will ask you to acknowledge rebooting into the "other" GPU - from / to iGPU / dGPU. And, you reverse the process to go back to the previous GPU mode.
Type Utility Title System Control Manager (SCM)
OS Win10 64,Win7 64 Release Date 2017-01-09
Version 13.016.12025 File Size 13.12 MB
File
Description SCM is a built-in system control tool to manage device settings by using Fn hotkeys and the SCM control panel. It also provides the ECO engine setup.
FAQ
- How to set up/change the User Defined Application for the quick launch Fn button (Fn+F4) / P1 key?
Note 1.SCM should be installed in order for all function keys to work properly. 2.Support 64bit Operating system.

It's actually a Display off button but it doesn't work. If my memory serves I think I have SCM installed, right now I can't do much until I receive the new AC Adapter, right now the battery is totally dead.hmscott likes this.

Darn, you don't have the MUX switch
From the manual for that model:
6. Quick Launch Buttons
Use the quick launch buttons to activate the specific applications or tools. The following quick launch buttons will only be functional in the operating system with the SCM application installed. Find the SCM exe file in the optional all-in-one disk that comes with the package or download it from MSI's website for easy and convenient operation.
Display OFF
• Use this button to switch OFF the display of the notebook.
• To restore the display, simply hit any key on the keyboard,
or move the mouse.
Cooler Boost
• Use this button to maximize the fan speed to cool down
the overall temperature of the notebook.
• Button LED glows when the fan speed is set to maximum
level; LED goes off when AUTO mode is selected.

What's a MUX switch?
The cooler boost and power button works just fine.DukeCLR likes this. -
MUX switch to switch between GPU's, it switches the connection to the internal display between the iGPU (Intel GPU on the CPU), and the dGPU (Nvidia GPU).
When the iGPU is running the dGPU is powered off - so you get more time on battery operation.
When the dGPU is running the iGPU is powered off, for desktop / AC operation.
That switch is a GPU switch on some GT8x/GT7x laptops, on your's it's a Display on/off button - I assume for the internal display, so it likely does nothing when you don't have an external monitor attached. -

When I press the media button for the first time, I get a popup saying what app I want this shortcut to run. so then you can select from an app from the populated list. If an app doesn't appear there, you can always browse to its location. After that, when you press the button, it would launch the app automatically. I set the media button to launch SVP (Smooth Video Project) which is an app that makes the videos run @ your screen's refresh rate, so for me since I have a 120hz screen, the videos run @ 120hz giving you an effect for watching movies you've never experienced before. Looks just like real life.
Also there's another app shortcut, press FN + F4, then choose the app you want that shortcut to launch. I chose Revo Uninstaller Pro for that shortcut.
