128K. Just tried 64K and the performance is worse

I know!
I am still checking my options as it would add another $100-200 to the build. My order is still in payment review complete.

I can't stop thinking about this laptop
Can't wait it to be in Production.
@Maverick389 Are you going to do any upgrades on your own?Maverick389 likes this. -
Your order will be there for a few more days and I know how it feels.
Once you get it to pre-production be ready to celebrate

I keep seeing the same laptop ordered from the same reseller thread, thinking it's spam. But again, it just shows how awesome MSi and a proper service are. I'm envying you all! I wish I had the cash, I would have instantly gotten one too.

Does anyone know if there is a way to use an external graphics card on the GT73VR? I could create a driver if necessary and test it out via Thunderbolt
Check this:Last edited: Mar 1, 2017 -
Well i hope that happens soon. How much time do you think it takes once its in pre-production stage?
-
Lol no its not a spam! Well you are right about the laptop and service. What laptop you are using now? And i can imagine how you must be feeling now as i also used to look up to these top of the line gaming laptops and just imagined what it would be like to own one.
-
I'm using an Acer laptop from 2011 (Sandy Bridge, no dGPU). My budget won't allow me for a high end MSI laptop, but I can handle a GTX 1050Ti!
Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk -
That looks really promising. But why would you want to use external card now?
Plus i remember few posts back someone talking about external gpu in the MSI GT73VR owner's thread. So you can probably refer to that.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
You must be missing out on all the new games then. You should go for a GTX 1050Ti. Would offer you way more value for money than going for high end one.
-
me neither!
Honestly i am not sure right now. But i really wanna replace that 1 tb hard drive with a good ssd.
And yeah i noticed there has been a $200 price increase. Even donald mentioned the same in gtx 1080Ti group. I am glad i bought it right on time.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk -
Definitely replace that hard drive if you want to see better results.
@Donald@HIDevolution any news?

@Maverick389 Any news on your laptop or everything is still the same
?
-
Well the good news is that now my laptop has moved to pre-production.
Have yet to update the thread with the status.
Did you notice the $200 increase in price for the laptop?

I have an amazing plan!
I have a Macbook Air Mid 2013 that I've used almost every day.
My Macbook Air is 4 years old now and the temperatures reach 95C when rendering or playing league of legends with 40-120fps on Windows 7 Ultimate.
This laptop has been extremely used.
I thought to remove Windows from it and go back to MacOS and stop torturing it since I'm getting a real gaming laptop soon that can handle my daily tasks. However, the only issue that my Macbook Air has now is heat and the fans that spin a lot because of the thermal paste that has hardened during the years and I'm pretty sure about it. Furthermore, I went on Amazon and ordered IC Diamond smallest tube which I will apply to this baby. It's going to be the most chilliest Macbook Air now
Has anyone ever tried to remove the heatsink on the Macbook Air (11") 2013-2017?

I did a repaste on my old Macbook pro 15 with the help of iFixit.com, they have teardown pictures of most Macbooks.

Interesting. Did you use IC Diamond for the thermal paste?
-
I used Gelid Extreme which I find is a very good TIM and easy to apply.
-
Sometimes I wonder what if everyone is ordering "Rush Build"...as far as i see most people on the forum pay for "Rush build", so who's laptop get built first?
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Gelid Extreme was good in its time. IC Diamond is far better now and Liquid Ultra for laptops that have a good heatsink which makes good contact with the CPU although it's a bigger pain to clean LCU.
I prefer IC DiamondLast edited: Mar 3, 2017steberg likes this. -

check this post how IC Diamond was even better then Liquid Ultra for me on my previous Clevo P870DM laptop, because IC Diamond is thicker it helps with the heatsink is of poor quality and doesn't make good contact with the CPU:

@Phoenix Do you have any benchmarks or real world performance differences between PCIe SSD in RAID 0 configuration vs. single PCIe SSD?
-
@RalfTech .. So whats the status of your laptop?
-

Load times are slightly faster for big games but nothing mind blowing........
here are some synthetic benchmarks for j00:
Single 950 PRO:
RAID 0 with 2x 950 PRO:
hmscott likes this. -
Actually i was thinking of adding one more SSD. However, i am not sure whether i should just go ahead and add one more or get the two samsung SSD in RAID 0?
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
always buy 2 of the same type. That way, you have the luxury of running them as single drives in AHCI or if you change your mind, you can RAID them and get double the space....
So example...... 2x 512GB 960 PRO or Evo in RAID 0 with a stripe size of 128K
partition C: = 120 to 150GB GB for Windows
Partition D: = rest of the space
This way you also balance the load on both of them as in the writes so they last longer since you aren't writing to one single drive all the time, the load is split between the two -
So its the synthetic benchmarks where a normal user can see the difference between the two. As the real world differences are not significant, what if i keep the stock PCIe SSD (250GB) as the primary boot drive and get another PCIe SSD 250GB or 500GB (to be used mainly for games)? That way i will end up saving some money.

If I give you 2 systems, one with RAID 0 and the other with a single PCIe NVMe SSD you won't be able to tell me which has which. NVMe SSDs are super fast and remember, the most snappiness comes out of the 4K Random Read / Write which a single PCIe SSD does very well
Also, a single SSD means lower latency as RAID 0 adds a bit of latency. not noticeable in day to day life, but it's there. so there's a plus point to each setuphmscott and Maverick389 like this. -

I got a call from @Donald@HIDevolution today. There are still issues with the 3000 MHz DRAM and BIOS, but for my needs the 2400 MHz DRAM will suffice. By mutual agreement, we're changing my build to the 2400 MHz DRAM, which means it's likely to ship this week. "Color me excited!"
BTW, I still have nothing but praise for the whole experience with HIDevolution so far. It has been a very interactive process, not just a faceless web order, and at the capability level I am buying here, that is every bit as important as the specs of the machine itself. Donald has been fantastic to work with. -
What with 2666/2800MHz sticks? Same problem? Or they haven't?Donald@Paladin44 likes this.

We are skipping DDR4/2666MHz and going for the higher speeds. We are hopeful this will be worked out shortly...but until it is there is no way to know what it will take, or how long it will take.Huniken, Spartan@HIDevolution, syscrusher and 1 other person like this. -
Nice
Then I assume that you with HID is in dialogue with a few memory manufacturers like G.Skill and a few more. These ram manufacturers selling fast ram for laptops already long time, so it must be in their interest as well, that this compatibility mess can be ruled out. For the best for us all
Really wish more sellers of computers were as good as your company. It would benefit everyone. I am impressed.

I may choose to upgrade my DRAM in a year or two when the prices drop and BIOS support is available -- or I may not. In the meantime, though, my workload is such that the faster DRAM would be a modest bump for me. I'm also cognizant of the fact that my current machine is 2.8 GHz max, and my new one is around 4.8 GHz with a newer generation CPU, and my GPU is moving from a GTX 650M to a GTX 1080. So I'm getting a serious performance increase for my 3D apps and databases, with or without bleeding edge DRAM. -
Hi Donald, I'm also someone who placed an order on your site for this same laptop & it's in pre-production stage as it shows in HID. When picking up Ram I only noticed 2400Mhz speeds listed, is this because the Prema Bios are not ready yet or you don't stock higher speed Ram currently?

My system is ready to ship! I'll have it early next week. I had to work last weekend (we moved our data center, and I'm the IT team lead), and my CEO is making noises about some time off next week to enjoy my new computer.
EDIT: I should add that my CEO has also been *personally* in the trenches with me since last Friday, pulling very long days in the data center. She's been willingly doing a lot of the scut work, to free me up for the technical parts. I have a great boss!Last edited: Mar 8, 2017Spartan@HIDevolution, win32asmguy, Donald@Paladin44 and 1 other person like this. -

We stock up to G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR4/3200MHz RAM, but as of now, it does not work in the EVOC 16L-G-1080. We don't know whether the Prema BIOS will cure this or not. We are currently testing other memory and will have results later this week.

For my configuration, got to know the stock ssd which will be installed is a samsung PM951 250GB which honestly I am not sure how good is it.
As such noticed that in regular usage and gaming, RAID 0 does not offer any substantial benefit. So thats out of the window for the time being.
So now I am torn between below two options:
1. Replace current stock 250GB SSD with a samsung 500GB 960 EVO - $215
2. Keep the stock 250GB SSD for OS and add another SSD (samsung 960 evo 250GB / 500GB) - $165 / $290
Not sure which option would be best or offer more value for money.

Bro @Phoenix forgot to tell that when you raid your ssd's, the max temp on the ssd's will be lower due shared load. Can be important if the laptop doesn't have adequate cooling for NVMe ssd's in fully blast. I have used raid0 before, but run my ssd's as ordinary setup now. Some like a big single ssd partisjon, hence the love for Raid. All depends what you prefer.
More, bigger faster is preferred
Just ask the named.

Finally received the Titan and it's a beast of a device. I selected the ghost recon wild lands game and while it plays in 1080p just fine on my 4k tv....i want to play it in 4k with everything maxed. That leads me to my next question, what are you using to OC the gpu? Any tips? I am using the dragon center to OC the cpu to 4ghz. What do you recommend?
I custom ordered it from xoticpc and had them put the private link up on amazon. It was delivered in about 10 days.
The performance is pretty impressive so farLast edited by a moderator: Mar 10, 2017 -
