Hi I just got a gp63 laptop yesterday (i7 8750h, gtx 1070, 16gb ddr4 2666, 128gb ssd, 1tb hdd) and I've been on it for a bit. I've been testing some games and I've got two questions.
Also I have the laptop on a kootek 5 fan cooling pad with all fans on at max.
- For about an hour total the gpu has been in the mid 80s and cpu in the mid 90s. Im just curious. Can that damage it? Could it already have caused some damage?
- I've got dragon center set at sport, fans on auto, gpu is optimal power in nvidia control panel. Is that fine? If not is there a program I can use that'll automatically throttle once the cpu and gpu hit a user desired temperature?
What are the optimal settings for everything? I'd like to get all the performance I can but not the heat above a certain temperature.
I have not under volted/clocked or over volted/clocked in case it would have voided the warranty. Sorry about how in depth my question is chalk it up to a combination of wanting to take care of an expensive laptop and paranoia about its performance lol.
Please though I want to get as much out of it as I can.

I've not seen many components fail due to high temps, but it may reduce the lifespan if you keep them high for several years. Saying that though, I have an old Dell laptop which ran for several thousand hours at 90-98 degrees, and the CPU still works fine in that. The main advantage of lower temps though is that you will get less throttling and more performance.Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Yeah I read that 90c should be the max for a cpu and 80c the max for a gpu.
Yeah one hour and I flipped out lol silly me I should know that especially a high end mobile cpu wouldn't be that susceptible. -

@Tmansdc you should undervolt it and set the fans for cooler booster for intensive things.
And release the power limiter on for the 8750H
You can find everything about it in gp63's owners lounge.
Mine's temps go for about
Cpu- max it'd go is about 70-75°C°C when doing very intensive tasks (ambient 20°C) and about 78-83°C for(ambient 26°C)
Gpu- never gone above 70(ambient 25≈26°C) and now it is about ≈65°C(ambient 20°C) -
Wow. Even with cooler booster on I get 35 degrees Celsius at ambient/idle.
Also I've got the core and cache undervolt at -.160 and the igpu and system agent at -.050 through throttle stop.Gursimran82956 and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -

I've got core and cpu cache at
-0.1953
Gpu at -.0996
System agent at -0.0977
Analog i/o at -0.0840 -
This temperatures aren't dangerous.

I use mine to model and render my projects.
Cpu temps are actually pretty good since I pasted it with conductonaut. But gpu does concern me since I rely so much on it.
I reached the 90C with kombustor, with twinmotion (this is a real time render program built with the unreal engine), aida64, unreal heaven and the only game that I have installed on it, the Forza 4 horizon(In dynamic graphics, when I lock it on ultra with 120fps it will reach about 85/86).
My concern is because I use twinmotion and lumion a lot, those are real time archviz, but are actually very light programs for the 1070. It would be like the most simple modern game you could imagine, with just a house in it. Lol.
So running it for some hours at 90c has taken some good sleep hours from me. (Should I be that worried?)
The same program in my old gtc 960m runs without problems and without reaching more than76C. I do know that this is a different card, different cooling solution and different voltages.
There are some other things.
The system got through maintenance and assistance cause of a short in some capacitor/potentiometer, don't really know about it, had to trust the technician talk.
My clocks in msi afterburn are showing about 1822 MHz in boost mode, shouldn't it be lower for this card.
Lowering the curve in after burn did affected benchmark results, but not temperature.
Any thoughts?!
Could someone replicate any of this tests to see if the temperature checks equal? -
I installed the rise of the tomb raider yesterday and it reaches 90c even in high settings (not ultra).
Can anyone confirm this temperature? Would be highly appreciated.
Max cpu/gpu temp for a gp63 leopard?
