Anybody know where else I can buy a GX620? Frostycomputer is out of stock right now.
-
-
The GX620's without blue-ray are completely sold out. We need to wait for them to restock.
-
AARRGGHH . . . . !! Frostycomputers said that they will restock by the end of octorber! So I'm going to have to order another one. Because my brother is buying for me, and he's going out of country on 17th october. Anyone know something with similar configuration? I'm currently considering a Force 3551 from Xoticpc. And does anyone know when others will restock the GX620? Maybe theres a little hope before 17th.
-
For future reference for those that wants to know, you might want to go with a T9600 if you want the fastest processor for your notebook. I just tried stress testing both my CPU and GPU, and watched my system temperature soared through the roof. With only the CPU stressed, it already hits low 80Cs, but with the 9600M GT in full burn, temperatures approach very scary levels.
-
are you sure the heatsink is installed correctly? those temperatures seem a little higher than it should be, even if its a 44w proc. X9000's ran fine in systems with inferior cooling well.
-
Yes, it was installed correctly. I just took it off and it appears the heatsink is making full contact with the die.
-
o_o may I ask what kind of temperatures it reaches when the GPU is stressed as well? Might not be a good idea to keep it in if it gets that hot
Also, if you've run 3dmark06, what kind of scores does that CPU achieve? (assuming it doesn't downclock during the process) -
GPU maxed out at 84C, and The CPU got 2800-something in 3DMark06. I already yanked it out and put the P8600 back in.
-
84C isn't really that high for GPU the gx620 has.
Most 15" Laptops with powerful discrete graphics are hitting about the same temperature, some are even higher (the dv5t GPU hits ~90C under load)
I wouldn't be too worried, 84C is well within range for this system. -
The thing is, while the GPU temperature has gone up, I'm more concerned about the CPU. I believe this surge in temperature for the CPU is due to the heatsink design, because the heatpipes that runs on top of the CPU and GPU is in a series. It goes like this:
If I don't stress the GPU, the CPU temperature is acceptable, but since the CPU is in the middle of the group, that area receives additional heat from the GPU in addition to itself from load. I think if the heatpipes were run in a "U" configuration like this:Code:Heatsink GPU \-- CPU ---/
Code:/---GPU Heatsink \---CPU
The CPU wouldn't be in danger of overheating when the GPU gets loaded up. -
I have just recently bought a GX620 and I've actually had problems with programing the P1 touch-pad button. Whenever I touch it, the dialog box asking for me to find a program for the button to work with pops up. I've tried giving it a program, but it never registers it. The same box returns whenever I try to use the P1 button.
Thanks for any help -
If you're running the pre-installed Vista, uninstalled the SCM and use the ones from MSI's website.
-
Hey, Thanks for your help,
But I'm not sure where to uninstall the SCM (or what the SCM is) and where on the MSI's website it is located. I've taken a look at the website, and tried to search through the downloads section for SCM...nothing to be found.
Thanks yet again -
Nevermind, I've found the download. It worked brilliantly, thanks a lot.
-
hey TRF, ive been reading your experience with the gx620 and I also jumped the gun and purchased it.
I also want to switch my OS from x86 to x64 since I feel gimped having access to only 3gb of ram when I have a lappy w/ 4gb.
May I ask how it went, installing vista ultimate 64-bit? Was there any driver incompatibility issues? I heard for some the turbo button would not work... or the dolby drivers would crash, etc.
Any input would be great. Thanks! -
My transition to 64 bit Vista was pretty smooth. All the drivers on MSI's website worked, and I do not have any Dolby Surround control application installed with the sound driver. For those that had problems with the Turbo and ECO button, simply uninstall the System Control Manager and re-install it with the ones off the website. For some reason the pre-installed one doesn't quite work.
-
sweet! thanks. guess ill be upgrading to an x64
Edit: oh yeah... was just wondering, do any of the other gx620 users see 7.81 gigs of hidden "EISA Configuration" partition? I'm assuming this is sortuva backup partition for reinstalling to stock settings... if its just that, will it be safe to delete the thing (assuming people made the recovery disk after the first boot/setup installation)? -
Yes, the hidden partition stores the files necessary for recovery discs. You can delete it once you get the recovery discs made. I just left mine there since that 8GB isn't going to make much difference for me anyways.
-
Hi, I have already ordered the GX 620, if you have any question I can answear it after the delivery.
I wanted to ask, if somebody has Windows XP installed on this NB, and if it works properly...
-
Ordered the GX620 yesterday. Did anyone receive one with the free gaming laser mouse (GS-502)? Any pictures perhaps?
-
What is the build quality like?, last thing I want is some cheap plastic casing?.Also can you reassign the touchpad thing for controls?.
-
am i the only one or the gx620 in uk sells with p8400? and costs a bit more than the US version?
Also any1 out there knows if there are any other sites besides
overclockers co uk that sell this laptop? -
Build quality is very good if you ask me.
Received mine today. Pleased with the looks and performance. HOWEVER, mine came with a dead pixel. I have dead pixel warranty, so it will be replaced this week.
(seems I attract notebooks with dead pixels... up untill now I have never received one without dead pixels!! :|) -
Is the case all aluminium or part aluminium and plastic?. After looking at the macbook earlier this week I love to have a metal case than another plasticky one.
-
Part aluminum, part plastic. The aluminum parts on this notebook are on the LCD lid and palm rest. After my fiasco with a Macbook Pro, I'm not sure if I want another notebook with all-aluminum casing. Let's see how the new Macbooks fare.
-
What parts are plastic, apologies for the question.
-
got me one of these yesterday and i'm very pleased with it. spent ages looking for something of this spec and quality but could never find exactly what i wanted, then by chance happened to find ebuyer uk had some in stock (intel ones listed under amd) was a little worried having not seen it in the flesh but the finish is great and the colouring isnt too bad at all, plus it came with back pack and gaming mouse.
Thanks to this forum for helping me make a snap decision
On another note does anyone know if you can retro fit a tv tuner? i see the aerial socket is present guess i just need the tv card. Thanks. -
Seems like you can acces the mini PCIe slot from a removable cover in the front (beneath the wifi/battery/power leds) (please correct me if I'm wrong). Since the coaxial connector is already on the back of the notebook, I would assume all connections to it are in place.
But I don't know what brand/model mini PCIe card you need.. -
the dead pixel issue i think it really bother when you want to see a movie... you keep looking at the ****ing pixel and you dont concentrate on the movie...
-
Is 1920 x 1440 the highest resolution the GX620 can output through HDMI? I hooked it up to a 2560 x 1600 and thats the highest I can set.
(Sorry I tried search, maybe an answer is buried somewhere but I can't find it) -
If there are people still looking for an Msi Gx620 in Belgium, it finally is available in 'tones.be'
-
where can I buy it on USA?
-
If anyone is interested, I bought mine a couple weeks ago in Korea... it comes with a P9500 (2.53ghz processor). Freshly installed a 64-bit Vista Home Premium (genuine) and will sell it when I get back to the U.S. on December 8th. I can ship it international if you're willing to cover shipping costs.
I hardly used it, fiddled around with the overclocks on the notebook gpu (it can OC like a beast...). If you want the stable OC'd settings I can leave it, or if you want it in stock settings, I can do that for you as well. Everything is in English except for the keyboard (which has both US and Korean letters.)
It's also covered by global MSI warranty.
Will be selling it for $1280 (cheaper than the U.S. version of the same model but with a lower end processor, P8600 2.4ghz.)
Will also include accessories... like the keyboard protection skin, MSI gaming mouse, MSI backpack, and the Zalman NC-2000 notebook cooler ($60 value).
Let me know via pm if anyone is interested... the notebook is in excellent condition (really NEW!) Just selling because I'm a serious gamer and I'm gonna spend the money building a desktop instead. This is not to say the notebook cant perform... it scores 7k in 3dmark06 overclocked, which is very respectable (the desktop 9600 GT scores 9k stock). -
does anyone have a problem with their microphone volume being really low? I've set all the levels to the maximum but its still really poor.
-
Usually the realtek mic allows you to do Mic Boost, and that may fix your low recording level.
Volume Control / Recording (Realtek Input) / Mic Advanced, check mark the box -
does nowhere in canada sell the barebones? i've only seen gx620 model for about 1150us after taxes and shipping, not sure if that's the best deal out there
-
wow looking at that notebookcheck review i may not get this. imo those spces for the screen are wayyyy to dim. i could not use a screen that maxxed out at under 150 nits thats crazy now im not sure what to do. i like everything else about this system but the panel sucks imo looking at those numbers
-
The screen is a little dim compared to other notebooks, but I have not found this to be a problem in any of the environments in which I am using the notebook. But it depends on your needs and if it may cause eye problems for you if the screen isn't bright enough.
-
its not that i just prefer the brightest screen i can get
-
I see, I would have hoped for a brighter screen, but I'm stuck with it now and I do not know how to make the screen brighter manually (seems like it would void the warranty or cause damage in the long run). What systems are you looking at currently?
-
can someone quickly explain how not getting a vista install disc will work out in the end?
i'm considering going back to xp since i'm more comfortable with it, what happens if i want vista again later on? how can i install it without the disc or files? -
Arg, the MSI site is a bit frustrating. They don't really keep their list of resellers up to date. I've went and checked out 3 of the resellers in my area and they had closed or moved or something lol
-
try agileelectronics.ca
they're likely one of those closed places but they were absurdly quick with my shipping, 36 hour turn around from mississauga to vancouver which is outstanding by any means -
so once i make the recovery discs i'm free to wipe the hard drive? i want to try XP with the GX620
are the recovery discs i burn any different than the 2 black recovery discs i got with my system? -
Yes. However, you will need special partitioning program such as PartitionMagic to do a complete low level format in order to wipe out the drive. If you got the 320GB hard drive, you should have 298GB available, not 290GB. If the system still shows 290GB, you still have the hidden recovery partition.
Those black DVDs are blanks, provided for you to use for making the recovery DVDs. Apparently MSI cut the corners and figure they can save money by having the end users make their own recovery discs instead of being 'mass-written' in a factory. -
Hey guys what do you think about this one?
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec_v2.asp?scriteria=BA25724
The design seems different from the red/black one (touchpad for example). So is it the same model with different paint and specs? -
no that one is ddr2 gpu ram it has a worse gpu from what the specs list says.
-
Yeah I know the specs are different, but is it like the same build?
-
The laptop chassis is similar yeah with just a few notable tweaks(ex the color scheme and the touch buttons).
-
I have one question...
My GX620 squeals... It`s very frustrating :/
It squeals on battery and AC power...
Only on battery safe mode on Vista it doesn`t squeal...
It`s comming from a place maybe 5cm from the touchpad...
Any ideas?
