Update since I know everyone gives a huge crap about this (/s) the bag does fit the laptop given some finesse and encouragement, without any zipper friction against the machine.

I don't know that store, but someone tried the pricematch with this MSI GS70 2OD-001US Intel Core i7 - Green Volume Shop ?
-
Everything on that site is so cheap, it looks very sketchy...
-
I saw that site earlier. I`d stay away. They sell the new Alienware 17 with GTX 780M $1000 lower than Dell.com
-
I am with Cloudfire, that seems like a scam.
-
Submitted a price match to XoticPC anyway to check. I'll update you guys.
-
I just emailed to Green Volume shop and they replied this:
Hi, you recently inquired about the MSI GS70 2OD-001US Intel Core i7 model that we currently have available on our site and we would like to confirm that there is not a sales tax for Brooklyn, NY 11209.
Also, we are including in our sale prices a guaranteed overnight shipping worldwide, completely free. So, you don't have to pay extra for expedited shipping.
Thank you for your inquire.
What you think guys is this legit...???
-
I would definitively not buy from this store. I wait for the results of bkoon1218 with the pricematch.
-
They are offering the machine at a considerable lower price, tax free and offering worldwide overnight shipping? Steer away man!
-
-
Well, we're more concerned about the price match at this point than purchasing from Green Volume themselves. XoticPC still hasn't responded, but I'm guessing it's cause it's late on Friday, etc.
I don't know if GenTechPC offers price matching, but I shot them an email as well. -
Unfortunately we will not try to price match if they are not MSI authorized resellers. $949 for GS70 is unreal and not even close to the actual cost.

Detroit Lakes Better Business Bureau has no knowledge of a Green Volume Shop -
A few things I learned about the GS70 Vs Razer Blade Pro, I have a Blade Pro that is getting returned since the MSI is so much cheaper.
- You CAN use the Razer Blade Pro power supply with the MSI GS70. They weigh about the same, the GS70 PS is just slightly bigger.
- The Blade Pro does run about 8C cooler that the GS70(I need to re-paste my CPU with IC Diamond and see the difference once I do that),
- the Blade is quieter at idle but about the same noise under load (its not bad but the Blade is completely silent when web browsing and the GS70 has a dull fan noise)
- the battery on the Pro will last about 1 1/2 hours longer
- the GS70 Keyboard is WAY BETTER, I would get missed key strokes on the pro pretty often when just typing. That never happens on the GS70.
- and yes the Blade Pro will still give you full graphics power on battery and the GS70, but how much gamming on battery do you really do?
- The Green Volume Shop is a scam if you Google it there are no hits prior to the 6th or Aug. -
Very nice points
The fan detail can probably tweaked down the road with an update. Definitely repaste your CPU if you are experiencing very high temps. Just remember to ask your reseller/msi if its okay. I know it's ok for most models but I don't know for the new GS series. I suspect there won't be an issue as long as you don't physically damage your laptop
-
Sorry if this was asked already, but how difficult is it to repaste the GS70? Has anyone done this yet? I certainly hope it's not as difficult as the Asus G750.
-
It will be quite difficult to apply thermal compound on GS70 since you have to remove the mainboard in order to access CPU and GPU, but not as difficult as Asus G750.
-
Mine does throttle under heavy useage but the CPU freq never drops below 2.6GHZ so I'm not sure what the throttling refers to. With the CPU pegged at 100% for an hour or 2, and the GPU running Unigine Heaven 4.0 Intel XTU reports throttling but the despite that the CPU stays running at 2.6GHZ which is the same with all threads active and no throttling so Im not sure what to make of it.
-
I went ahead and undervolted the CPU using Intel XTU. The actual clock rates are higher and it doesn't throttle nearly as much now. I just changed Dynamic CPU voltage Offset to -90 mV and Processor Cache Voltage Offset to -90 mV. Then applied and saved it as default. You then have to go into power options and TURN OFF Fast Startup in Windows 8 or it will NOT restore the undervolt settings on a reboot. I think under no load the CPU used to go to 3.4GHZ at times, but now seems to stay at 3.3 Ghz since undervolting but the much reduced temps and significantly higher clock rates under load make it worth it.
Once you do that the system runs cooler and maintains a higher clock rate. I can still get it to throttle but it takes much longer and it maintains a clock speed of 3 ghz or more rather than dropping to 2.6 ghz -
can anyone of the new owners say something about the screen of this notebook? I tested a ASUS g750 before and the screen was very grainy. Is it comparable to this notebook? The ASUS g750 was very annoying when looking on white/lighter areas. Everything else seems to be quite perfect for me with this notebook
Thanks a lot for your answers :-D -
Does anyone know if the TN panel in the GS70 is the same (terrible) one in the GE70? The color gamut on the GE70 is really bad - does not even cover the entire sRGB let alone adobe. Black levels and brightness were not good in 1 review.
-
All matte screen does look grainy especially on a 17.3" screens because the pixels are bigger.
-
thanks for this explanation but for some reason the asus g750 i've tested was much more grainy than other notebooks i've seen. It was really annoying to read something on light backgrounds. I don't feel uncomfortable if i look on asus n750 (white background) witch is also a mate 17" machine. I also don'T have problems with my mate standalone Screen witch is bigger than 17"

I use my GS70 for professional design work. To say that it is grainy because the pixels are bigger is pretty silly, I have been running a 25" monitor for a couple of years with the same resolution, and this 17" is obviously sharper than that. I used to have a 13" laptop with 1080p and it was too tight to see, so this is my preferred option.
Once you color correct the screen, either by eyeballing it or by using hardware, it looks pretty darn good, and the viewing angles are great too. Probably not the highest end screen ever but its plenty good enough. -
Yeah a little tweak works wonders. Even infamous bad screens like AuO v5 were decent looking with added saturation, reduced brightness and slighly increased contrast.
I would suggest fiddling with the settings from the GPU menu like human_aft3r_all suggests! -
Were you able to get the greyscale down well? Did you use a calibration disk (Like hte AVSForum one)?
A good greyscale goes along way -
Hi everyone, first time on NBR and I just recently got this lovely laptop. I have a question for the owners of this laptop, are the spacebars on your laptops not very responsive at the ends?
-
Loving this laptop. I believe I am going to need to calibrate it a bit. Has anyone made an icc profile for the monitor and could attach it? I understand that all monitors on the gs70 are going to be slightly different, but if someone has done a good calibration I would love to get the icc file for it!
I am using this laptop for video editing using premiere pro. So far it has been very good for this purpose.
Thank you,

I would also love this, I am new to monitor calibration, but I just colored mine with a color wheel I have by eye. -

MSI GS70 Stealth Gaming Laptop Review - Introduction
Here is a new in-depth review with cooling scores and benchmarks. -
Has any other GS70 owner had issue with the sound? I enable the creative EQ and I get pops and crackles, so I disable it and the audio noticeably changes, loosing the pops and crackles.
The main problem is that the subwoofer (that I've interpreted as being under the left front corner of the laptop) never makes sound. I'm worried I have a solder issue in the internals. Youtube low range audio tests confirm no sound until it hits the mid.
As mentioned before, opening the the laptop voids the warranty, so I can't confirm a single thing. Anyone see this issue? -
Tats a Good Review except they haven't test the Battery Life...??? Any concrete review on battery..??
-
human_aft3r_all Notebook Consultant
I have said a few times in this thread, I get 4 hours if I am using it for light tasks at mid brightness. Drops down from there.
It's not a laptop that you will whip out and use wherever, it is mostly from desk to backpack to desk for me. But if I need to check something or go online and watch some videos is performs just fine on battery for a while. -
I'm very close to ordering this beautiful machine. My only concern is the GPU. The 765 seems to be a high-mid level card on the mobile hierarchy according to charts I've seen. Are you guys having issues with any of the games you're playing (Borderlands, Skyrim)? More importantly, how well will this laptop work with video editing software, like Premiere and After Effects? Any experience you can share would be appreciated. Thanks!
-

Borderlands and Skyrim run great. The only concern is games in the future. This machine will not be current as long as a 780. Though to me, it's no contest because the portability of this machine and the fact that it doesn't look like some race car mutant trumps the possiblity of a graphics bump.
I have not tried video editing, I have tried game dev software and UDK and Unity run just fine.
Does anyone know if I can set a GPU profile while it's plugged in? I don't like how the Intel chip handles Windows tasks, chrome blinks and stutters a bit when scrolling and stuff. Can I run everything on the Nvidia chip when the machine is plugged in and then degrade to intel when its on battery? -
Yes just hit up the NVIDIA manager. From there you can set to GPU on default for every program it opens. If the power light is orange, then nvidia gpu is running.
-
Has anyone successfully done a dual boot on this laptop? I'd really like to dual boot Ubuntu and I don't know if it's possible.
-

I also thought this would be cool, use each SSD for a different OS. I havent looked into it on mine though -
Let me know how it goes, if you do it. My old Dell Inspiron 1545 had Ubuntu 13.04 dual-booted with W7 Pro. I'd really like to add Ubuntu again because it's where a lot of my development work happens.
-
So why not run a virtual machine? The CPU supports it. Dual booting is so 2011

Running both with the hardware split may not be optimal for those needing max performance with either setup. -
Virtual machines have a long way to go before they're really feasible. The performance isn't good enough in a VM for my needs. Thanks for your unnecessary comment.

For those of you interested in trying to re-paste your CPU & GPU MSI has posted the assembly and disassembly guides. I'm guessing this is the same guides Xotic PC and Gentech PC use to do their upgrades. You have to register for their forums to see the file otherwise it just says "Here it is". I haven't re-pasted mine yet but I plan on it now that I have this and will report the Thermal changes.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=171959.0 -
Bah. I just re-pasted mine after getting the "go ahead" from tech support. I should have waited until the damn thing was posted. I was successful but man was it nerve racking. I haven't cracked open a laptop in years. Thanks though.
EDIT: Just want to put this out there. I re-pasted using MX-2. Performance-wise, the laptop doesn't necessarily run cooler but moves heat out faster. At maximum load you will still see up to 90C which is still within Haswell specs. With the new paste however, when the stress test is stopped the temps drop much faster. The price of a lighter gaming grade laptop translates to smaller heatsinks unfortunately. I still want MSI to release a BIOS that would seriously slow down or stop the damn CPU fan though - that thing is always running albeit not at high speeds but always running. -
They have come a long way
The thing is, if you are going to work on a virtualized environment you need your cpu to support virtualization to at least have proper cpu performance. It is mostly advisable to use multiple virtualized machines when you are running regular tasks and nothing that requires full power. In the case of GPUs you would need virtualized GPUs to share the resources, like nVidia GRID, but that seems to be a bit of a closed system for configuration.
You are right in that they need to adjust to your needs. They are mostly done for working environments (for example, we have virtual machines for each differen software programing and for destructive tests).
Very nice find! Specially for first time users that wish to try it themselves.
Until more testing can be done, you are most likely correct. Maybe try a little less paste? It's true about the temps, you are still within specs
As for the fan, since this is a new model, maybe pherein's tool won't work as the fan tables most likely are elsewhere, but maybe it's worth a shot trying to find the location to manually change them? -
Also could you Check what are the Max frequency your CPU is reaching while under maximum load now ?
It is possible it's higher than before repasting, which would explane why the Max temp is still high... Maybe you reduced the throttling. -
I got an RMA last week and sent mine back to MSI to repaste the CPU. Mine was hitting 100C with stress tests like prime95 and Unigine Heaven within about 20-30 mins. They said that's not normal. I'll let you guys know once I get it back if they were able to correct it.
-
I see CPU reach 3.4Ghz while plugged in, stressed and fans blazing. To be honest, I didn't observe any quirks regarding CPU throttle bfore re-pasting. The OEM paste job, while copious, was not offensive as some. The gunk surrounding the CPU was horrid but the die itself wasn't too bad thanks to the extreme tightening of the hold down screws. Maybe that's why I'm not seeing such a huge difference. I'm happy with the laptop so...*shrug*
EDIT for Update and Question: I stressed the CPU again and saw nothing over 85C which is definitely an improvement in ambient temperature of 23.3C. The CPU does throttle and I only saw the multiplier hit 34 for a few seconds before getting scaled back to 3.0-3.1Ghz. After the latest BIOS update, has anyone noticed quirky behavior by the power indicator light? It keeps flashing orange as if the discrete card is active and I do see the activity icon in the task bar light up but with no applications turning it on. SCM needs an update maybe? -
Did they charged you anything extra like shipping cost and all...where you purchased it from..??
