Battery is possibly dead since this product is pretty old.
Try disconnecting the battery, and once confirmed, then replace it.

    thanks for your reply

i only replaced the battery about 11 months ago.... then again i did get it off ebay.

the last battery didn't die like this... it kept charging fine but stopped holding charge and powering down the computer when it was at like 70%

so disconnect the battery and do what? how do i confirm the battery?

Disconnect the battery and check the message.
Connect the battery, and unplug the power cord to see if it turns off right away, or if it doesn't last as long as what's being shown in Windows.

ok the laptop will not power on without the battery in and also if i take the battery out while it is on then the laptop dies... normal??

if i unplug the power cord the battery discharges kind of normally ... (they never last as long as windows shows anyway)

Not normal. The laptop should function as it normally would with or without the battery while the AC is connected. You might want to connect with MSI support about that.

Yeah, something's wrong with it, best to contact MSI Tech Support to find out the estimated cost for repair on out of warranty repair.
