Last Monday (December 3rd) I was all set to order an MSI GX600 Laptop. I was going to get the laptop from either XoticPC of RK Computers. I decided to go with XoticPc because they had an available upgrade for the hard drive.

I placed the order, and after the order was placed they told me that it would take about a week and a half to get the order out. That was way too long so I decided to cancel the order.

No here’s the frustrating part. Xotic PC had already charged my credit card, or more specifically they obtained an authorization code which holds the full amount until either the charge is made, they call in to cancel the Authorization code, or it times out 21 days later. That’s right 21 days! I called Xotic PC and they said that it will take 3-5 days for the credit to clear. So hear it is 5 business days later and I still haven’t got a credit.

I called American Express and a rep from Am-Ex informed me that XoticPc obtained an Authorization Code and hasn’t called in to cancel the Authorization code. XoticPC will not do anything after repeated calls. It appears that they are doing nothing (letting it timeout). They are holding my $2000 for 21 days effectively ruining my Christmas.

I say wait a couple of more days, maybe they meant 3-5 working days. Maybe it's there bank's fault. Or maybe they just suck :p

    All the best.

How do you know that they're doing that on purpose? Justin from XOTICPC posts here often, why don't you ask him for clarification.

I did. I'm getting conflicting information. XoticPC said the the credit was issued on the 3rd (Monday). Am-ex is saying that it was issued much later than that (friday or over the weekend). Either way, Am-Ex says that the amount should be available "instantly", which it still isn't.

I'd say both parties could have handled it better. XoticPC should have issued the "Authorization Code cancellation" as soon as they found out that my order was cancelled and never shipped. I'm not sure why that would take 3-5 business days since I canceled the order seconds after it was made. Either way, I shouldn’t have to wait for over 7 days to receive credit on my account for merchandise that was never shipped.

I just called American Express for the 12th time! They said that XoticPC have yet to put the credit reversal through. I called XoticPc and they said that they did put the credit through. Am-Ex is asking me to have the vendor give merchant services a call. Hopefully XoticPc will give me the benefit of the doubt and verify if the credit has been reveresed.

    Final Update:

I finally got the amount cleared on my credit card. It was American express that had their head up their Tail-ends. XoticPC wasn’t at fault. In fact, XoticPC called me back to verify that the credit was indeed reversed on the 3rd. Credit Card Companies Suck!!

Glad it all worked out in the end, and thanks for keeping us up to date on the whole thing. It's good to hear that XoticPC was not at fault.

=/ yah I hate to break it to you, but NO REP in a credit card company can tell you when a vendor has released funds. I know this from experience from working with BOFA. Only thing they told you that was right is that the temp charge can stay on the account for 21 days before it rolls off.

But i'd expect at least AMEX would do better job of disputing or clearing problems like these..
sad.. it seems like my recent order of F8sn-b1 will be going through what Spoonie went through... (with xoticpc) but i haven't cancelled my order yet..
I want my F8SNB1 damn it!

    >.> really shouldn't bump such old post, but since you did already....fyi BOFA controls at least 70% of the american express cards out there, the person who picks up the phone when you call is most likely not even working for BOFA. Usually credits back to a account can take up to 21 days, but it completely depends on the bank and even worse banks only work on business days. That means if they tell you 3 days and its already Friday, odds nothing will even be started till monday.
Back when I bought my P-6831fx from bestbuy and then went to price match it, the clerk ran it as a return and then charged it at the discounted price. Well that was great, normally the credit would show up automatically and then show a debit for the lesser amount. Problem was it was Sunday and I used my debit card on accident...Credit wasn't put back till Tuesday and my account was overdrawn for 2 days without me knowing about it.
To make a long story short, the point is banks are slow, lazy and greedy. If I hadn't still had a list of department numbers for BOFA, "that I just happened to forget to throw away before I left" and already new witch departments could fix my problem I like many many others would have SOL.
