First off, I just bought this and notice that the GPU is acting up? I'm not sure what is the real or default speed of this card. This card seems to have a mind of it's own. With out the power cord plugged in it down clocks like hell. I happened to download ATI Radieon Bios Editor and overclocked the card. Is this speed safe for the card? Or can I go higher? I think the stock clocks are 580mhz core and 750mhz memory? Can anyone help or comfirmed this?

The video card downclocks when not plugged in to conserve battery life. Pretty much every discrete graphics in laptops does this, and the HD 3850 is certainly no different. It will not harm it; your gaming performance will just suffer until you find a wall socket.

If the video card does not downclock, your laptop might not even last an hour off the plug.

Oh! okay so with the battery it downclocks to conserve battery, understandable! So what about the clocks when plugged in what should I set it too! Would it be on the GPU-Z default clocks or should I clock it higher! I just want to know the highest speed this card can go with out harming it!
