Goooooosh I would pick this RIGHT NOW....
BUT they dont ship to Mexico also they dont accept any international orders wich is BAD and nasty.
-
This is how I got mines except it was slightly cheaper than this. Good deal for someone who really wants an ex625.
-
Has anyone here purchased an open box item from Newegg.com before? This looks real tempting but dont want to get screwed on it.
-
-
Did you recieve all the needed parts and accessories? Was it from Newegg.com?
-
-
Will MSI honor the manufacturer's warranty even if it is open box? So very tempted to hit the buy button lol. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Well, Newegg took my order for this baby and already charged my card. So, we shall see if it comes through.
My wife loves my EX625 so much that she has been harassing me about giving it to her. I was sorely disappointed that they sold out of these and have been lurking trying to find an alternative. No such luck.
So, fingers crossed, I won't have any issues with this one. Glad to here about other's experience with an Open Box item. Newegg scares you with all sorts of disclaimers for obvious reasons. There is a 30 day return policy for a full refund.
I know some have had problems with certain games on the EX625. All you have to do is check out the thread. I've played the batsnot out of mine, but mainly source games, CivIV, and GalCivII. No major issues. All this on stock vista that came with the laptop. It also streams movies great from Netflix and the HDMI cable performs as intended.
I'd love to hear from anyone else who has had success with open box items from Newegg. -
-
I want to do this but it looks like they are out of stock. Will they come back in?
-
This is the first time I seen the open box for the EX625. I dont know if they will have more or not. You just have to keep checking.. That was a really good deal to, the 4670 is an awesome card.

what keeps me hesitating to get the open box is that number of people in the ex625 thread who have returned theirs due to a loud fan, overheating, etc. etc.
I do not want to find out 31 days after I bought it that it has issues. -

loud fan? Granted I haven't read the ex625 thread, but I always considered msi laptops to be some of the most quiet laptops ever (at least the gx720). I seriously have to put my ear right next to the vent to hear the fan...
-
Well, Newegg says they have shipped the laptop. Did 2nd day UPS so I'll report when I get it and if it works out all right.
Again, I have had a wonderful experience with my EX625 and I've owned it for about 2 months now. Runs quiet and games great for what I play. Since this is open box and I'm familiar with the hardware and software, it should give me a little edge in dealing with any quirks I find "knock on wood." -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well it's deactived now, its solid for the price though.

-
i've ordered one of the open boxes too lol. guess they had more than one.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
HM i wonder why they have so many open box models? Are all these people returning there notebooks?
-
I have no idea lol. I just received the notebook today, i have a few questions. When these open boxes are sold, are they supposed to have a clean hdd, ie: fresh factory install OS? and do notebooks usually come with an OS disc, because this didn't come with one, and it didn't seem like it was a fresh install because it still had the previous owner's name on the startup lol. thanks, any insight is appreciated.

I own a brand new EX625 (2 months old) and you have to use the 2 blank dvd's which originally came with the new computer to burn a backup copy of windows vista. Plus, it came with an MSI driver disk which contained Vista & XP drivers (also available on-line at MSI.) Other then these items, you also get, of course, the battery and power cable.
I know I'm sounding like a broken record but my brand new EX625 games great for the games I play. I don't play Crysis or GTAIV which seem the major problem games. You can check out Vaant's posts in the EX625 thread or check out his posts on the main MSI forums. Some technical geek posted on the MSI forum that it could be a frequency issue related to the GPU and it can be common for wide variances in whether some GPU's BSOD and some don't depending on what the game is trying to do. Underclocking the GPU may be a possible solution.
I do not have any of these problems and the open box EX625 is going to my wife, who doesn't game, so, no worries "knock on wood." -
yeah it is quite annoying lol. Is there any way to restore to factory settings, it's pretty tough without a vista cd.
@MightyT : It came with the notebook, cables, drivers cd, and what seems to be a blank cd. As well as the getting started booklets and what not. I'm not dissapointed at all, just kinda quirked about the previous owner's name, and who knows what else is on it lol. hope this helps. -
Use the MSI program already installed in Vista to burn your recovery discs and then you can do a fresh reinstall.
Just make sure you have two blank DVD-R's. -
I was looking through the paperwork and i found that posterboard sheet with all sorts of languages and the "Backup image file" section. This is where my first problem lies: when i hit start > all programs > MSI > BurRecovery. There isn't an MSI submenu to choose. I have some blank DVD-Rs but what to use them on lol. Thanks for your help btw.
-
C:\Program Files\MSI\BurnRecovery\burnrecovery.exe
It should be there.
Another possible route is to go into your vista control panel and under user accounts just establish a new administrator user account. Reboot and go into that account and setup vista to your liking and try the burnrecovery program. -

yeah i've read the manual, what i don't understand is how they got from the boot manager screen, to the system recover screen. I even pushed f8 to enter the advanced boot options menu, but there wasn't a "Repair your computer" selection. any help is greatly appreciated.
-
I'm wondering if the previous owner did a complete reinstall of the Vista OS and borked the original recovery partition. Did you try my suggestions of checking your program files folder and setting up a new user account and booting into that one?
Also, check programs and features in your control panel and see if burn recovery comes up as an option to uninstall.
Here are some alternative solutions you may want to try. Check out the following links:

http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/

If I understand these articles correctly a recovery disc allows you to simply repair your existing vista installation. It does not allow a fresh, full reinstallation of Vista. -
Yeah, I have come to the same conclusion and am starting to believe that the previous owner removed the recovery tools. Through MSI's tech support, I may have to purchase a recovery disc, not too bad as it's only $10. I hope you have more luck on your open box model than I have had with mine lol.

OK, I finally have a chance to post. I got the open box lappy last night. Came with everything including already made burn recovery DVD's from the original owner.
So far while setting up the laptop I got two BSOD's similar to what Vaant posted in the EX625 thread but without playing games. Vista error logs appear to indicate a video driver related issue. This may be why the original owner sent it back.
Vaant has another thread on the MSI forum at:
http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=128031.0
I'm keeping the laptop, so long as it remains stable for videos and surfing and office apps because it was so cheap. I'll also try the enabling power play in catalyst control center while it's plugged in, to underclock the GPU, and see if that enhances the stability and eliminates BSODs. -
Glad to hear you got everything. I haven't experienced any BSOD's yet (knocks on wood). My notebook is running very efficiently. I have a question though. Are the burn recovery dvds unique for each notebook? say, will your burn recovery disk work with mine? lol just wondering thanks though, and enjoy the notebook.
-
Good question and I'm not sure. If it were windows xp then it would be specifically tied to the product key associated to your copy on the laptop. Not sure about vista since I'm new to it but I assume it is also tied specifically to the product key listed underneath your laptop. Therefore, it would not be interchangeable. Of course, I could be totally wrong about that. All my other previous laptops came with a copy of Windows XP on disc so it was never an issue.
-
I just spoke to MSI tech support via phone. He says that the recovery disc should work, but he wasn't 100% sure about it. I decided to send mine to MSI so they can do a fresh install of vista and hopefully it'll include an option to burn a recovery disc.

Sorry to report that I'm RMAing the open box EX625.
The vid card is definitely borked. I got constant lockups during DVD playback and then, even after a fresh factory reinstall of Vista I got BSOD'd to hell and back just trying to set it up. All these were card related according to the error logs. So, I don't have time to troubleshoot this or send it back to MSI for warranty.
I'll hunt for a new laptop for myself and give my wife my other EX625 since it runs great and she has to have Vista 32bit for work.
Hope you have better luck with your open box. -
Sorry to hear that.
I had a feeling the open boxers were probably experiencing greater than normal issues. I may just go with a refurb g50 from tigerdirect before school starts back up at this point. -
