    Ben,

I have the same dilemma as you...either this or the ClevoW860CU.

But i am leaning closer to MSI for now.

    Yeah, I feel ya...
Now I have a bit more funds (due to waiting and not rushing...) I'd probably go Clevo.

    I'm still thinking .. a LOT.

What can i do to help convince you both :p

reasons for my choice are net relevant to you im sure, so this should be based on what your looking for, but the info for FURMARK i didn't get a chance to do the screenies last night, i will hopefully get them up either tonight or on the weekend.

    I'm gonna be honest.

    I'm in between GX740 and NP8690.

But, I'm now concerned not over performance but over cooling... Honduras is hot as heck every single day. My temperatures are different than the ones that ALL of you have posted...
My daily temperatures range from 28 ~ 38 C, sometimes getting into the 43's... with humidity and all, it really sucks.

So, if you could simulate, or put your room heater to that temperature and run a couple of benchies and take pics @ temps, you might convince me.
I'm GOING to buy either one so, its all good... just that right now i'm leaning over the NP8690 because of the cooling, not because I fell in love with the MSIs 1st.

An extra 10C of ambient temperature would mean 10C higher temperature on the internal components if the fan speed was the same. However, the fan will run faster in hotter conditions, which will reduce the difference somewhat.

    Hello all,

I am a rookie here and I have enjoyed this thread as I have been looking at purchasing the MSI-1727 barebone. I just need to save for it. Great info but I am wondering were have you all purchased yours at. As the website I found:

    MSI MS-1727-ID1 (GX740) 17" WSXGA+ Core™ i5-i7 Barebone DIY Gaming Notebook-937-172726-010

    looks dead.

I have always built desktops except for the past few years and lots of things have changed. I am mainly looking for a gaming/tdy (Gowing away form home for a while) laptop. I also want something that will last for years. Can anyone provide me other places to purchase or is my link good? I was going to do an alienware but I can build this thing with the same parts between 400 to 1000 dollars cheeper.

Also I am having issues with the memory should I go to 8GB or just stick with the 4GB till the price goes down.

Should I also choose an upgraded thermal compound or will the basic be fine?

Btw, does the MS 1727 uses a 2 fan for cooling solution or only just 1 fan?

Hey MSI isnt bad at all, you see here in India its 44 or something as highest, and the lappy is not that bad. At Furmark the temps pick up real fast and keep climbing, but then they stabilize at 98*C-99*C. But the gaming never and really never hits them, its like 90*C max even for GTA IV and Crysis.

I got my CPU OC'ed(see my sig) and its warm, but not a super-hot hair dryer, still I keep dreaming about using LN2, sub-zero temps are cool, arent they? :p

Yeh, but there's slightly difference between GT725 and GX740 :)

I'm from Germany and own a Medion X7811. I undervolt the 5870, so Idle-Temps are at 42-45°C. Furmark at max. 83°C!
With original vBIOS-Values (1,15V) the temps climbed to 100°C.

I've posted my settings in the GX740 thread.

btw.: How can I set a signature?

Top Left there is a thing called User CP, click that, then on the page that opens there will be a signature option on the top in the left column.

Are you a Nazi by any chance? :p
