Hello guys.
Long time lurker, finally joined.
Thing is my GPU died. At first I thought it was a weld fracture, but a reflow didn't solve it.
Since I can't afford a new notebook that would be as good as our GX640 I'd need some counseling on compatible GPUs for the GX640.
I've been through the thread and found that the socket is a MXM 3.0b, and our GPU has 39W.
Until now I've found that the GTX670MX seems compatible.
Any more GPUs that would be a good substitute?
Thanks! -

I don't know what to do anymore. I have a stock brand new GX640 which I got directly from an MSI store.

Here are my problems (that I know of)
1. Sleeping (FN F12, selecting sleep from start menu, closing laptop lid, clicking power button which is set to sleep) WILL ALWAYS end up with my laptop turning off and sending me to the "windows did not shut down properly" screen.
2. Hibernating WILL ALWAYS resume itself right away just after it starts to hibernate.
And most importantly (I can live with the issues above)
3. My fan spins fast for 2 seconds and slows down for 3 seconds. This is the one on the exhaust near the RJ-45 port which I am assuming is my video card.
Normally you would assume that it is just my laptop automatically adjusting itself, but this is not the case.
This behavior is static and happens no matter if I am idle, or playing a game, or when my temps are at 60c (idle), or when my temps are at 80c+(heavy load).
It always behaves like this. 3 second high speed fan, 2 second low speed fan. Always.
Now I have done the following:
Follow everything on the GX640 MSI page.
I have updated my vbios.
I have completely uninstalled the suggesting AMD/ATI driver from the GX640 MSI page.
I have updated to the latest recommended AMD/ATI driver which is 14.12 AMD Catalyst Omega.
The behavior is still the same, 3 seconds high fan then 2 seconds low fan.
I have installed HWMonitor and Speedfan on separate occasions.
Speedfan sees all my temps but only my GPU fan is visible - BUT changing the values on the GPU fan has no effect at all. I do not notice any noise change when going from 0% to 100%. The behavior is still the same, 3 seconds high fan then 2 seconds low fan.
The same applies to the OverDrive option in the catalyst.
HWMonitor does not see any fans at all.
What else can I do?
