i'm trying to pull off an optical drive from acer extensa 5420 and insert it into the msi 1722 and i think the connector doesn't match, i read an earlier post here and some one said that basically every optical drive would fit.

the connector goes in but it's diffrent kind of connection, the 1722 has a connector and the golden pins are to the inside of the connector while they should go to the outside surface to match the optical drive.

    any help, thanks.

The msi 1722 uses SATA while alot of the other notebooks uses IDE
so yea, it won't fit, you have to get a SATA slim drive

    Correct MS-1722 is S-ATA the ACER 5420 is P-ATA.
Try to get an BLu-Ray Sony Nec Optiarc BC-5500S or an Default AD 7590S.
