Hello all,
what is safe overclock for gtx 1080 in Msi gt73? I tried + 100 core and + 200 memory. I got nice boost of 7-10 fps. Is it safe to do more than that?

I push I little bit more. 150 on core and 300 memory. Getting even more fps. Is this too much? Look my gpu clocks on picture

Each individual card is different so your mileage may vary. You should be able to boost your memory to 500 or even 600. Core at 150 is fine.

If your game or benchmark locks up, then your core is set to high. If you see visual artifacts, then the memory is too high.

Thank You! What about voltage? I left it on stock but I am hitting power limit. Maybe I should undervolt GPU? It is not big power limit from 2012 Mhz to 1930+ Mhz on core
-
Thank you for replay! I tested, I do not have any of those. Just that power limit but I think every 1080 in laptop has it
-
Unless you mod for power limit, you will hit it often, its normal. Your overclocks are fine, just be careful on the memory because there is a bit of error correction with high memory clocks, that instead of crashing it recovers and keeps gaming but it reduces your fps, so look carefully when overclocking the memory at which point you stop gaining performance. Your overclocks are fine and quite safe specially if under 80 celsius. If temps rise too much I would recommend repasting but the clocks themselves are fine, I use those most of the time to game.

Thank you for your answer! I will leave like this 150 on core and 350 memory, I tried memory more but I do not see more fps because of it. It is the same. I am using very aggressive fan profile my GPU is always under 80 C. Is it normal because of power limit that my core clock vary from 1930 to 2012 Mhz? In some games stay just below 2000 Mhz?Vistar Shook likes this.

Yes, it is normal. There is less control on these GPUs than previous generations. Essentially the GPU self "overclocks" and stays within power and thermal limits. In less intensive games, the GPU clocks higher, while more demanding games it will tend to clock on the 1900 range.
All loads are different and 100% GPU use does not mean 100% of all of its resources. Similar to how a CPU can be 100% at high clocks and normal power consumption, but then you fire up prime 95 torture and see massive power consumption at the same 100% load, because it stresses the CPU in massive ways that normal loads won't.Vistar Shook and Ivan994 like this. -
Thank you for an explanation!

Are you using ram speed 2400mhz ?

Yes, why do you ask?

I just think speed ram is benefit to fps to

Maybe just I little bit but not supposed to be a big difference
-
I remember testing only with the stock 2400 and 2666mhz speeds at the same timings, but as you point out, I don't even remember seeing a difference. I think some games are more sensitive to memory than others but overall it won't be a noticeable improvement.

It is just for multitasking, for gaming there is very minor if at all improvements.
