Hey guys
just wanted to know why there are no reviews of this laptop on YT by anyone? And why is GS66 so hyped over it?Last edited: Apr 24, 2020 -
There are several video reviews on YT.
Do a Search GS66 might find what you want? -
my bad.
-
BestBuy has the RTX 2070 Super model well specced and at a decent price
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/search...rue&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys
EDIT:
Had anyway. -
Yeah I am eyeing this one.
Also, where are you guys getting the extended warranty from? -
Are there any reviews for this yet? I think the RTX 2070S is the sweet spot for this laptop, it will perform pretty good without costing a arm and a leg.

how would a laptop GTX 1080 compare to the new 2070 Super (Max Q or Max P?) being offered in this laptop Model at Best Buy? Is Max Q or Max P better? Never had a "Max" version before so can anyone help me out on that question? I want to make sure I am getting the more powerful 2070 in this GE66 model at BB. (I don't want to spend all the extra money for the 2080 Max - good with 2070 Super)
Thanks!Last edited: Apr 26, 2020 -
Max P is the more powerful version and the description at BB says just RTX 2070 Super so I’m guessing and hoping it’s the full version.
2070 Super should be a pretty decent bump over a GTX 1080 .captaincranium and Darkhan like this. -

Yeah I am hoping that too...i put an order in for one so crossing my fingers -
Nice find, I was worried we were not going to see the 2070 super max-p version in the states. So much so I wrote MSI themselves but never got a reply. Its the SFS, GE66 10SFS model that I wanted. I would have got this if I had not put in an order for the Area51m with 2080. Yes this will come close if not outperform the 2080 super max-q models.
Here is some reading material on the subject if your so inclined, LINK.Last edited: Apr 27, 2020 -
In terms of performance, this is how they'll stack.
2080 super Max-q (80w) < 2070 super (115w) <= 2080 super Max-q (90w)Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
Can anyone confirm if we will be able to undervolt? If so do we have a choice of how much we can?
-
I don't think we can undervolt because of pludervolt..read about it online
-
From the GS66 thread they say you can through the Bios, from page 13 and on, LINK. It was also posted on twitter, LINK. If you can set -140 on the CPU like is stated in the thread, then its all good, problem solved concerning the undervolting.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

From what I hear Jarrods Tech found in the BIOS there is a way you can enable and disable the XTU interface , so there might be a work around.
From his Twitter account:
“
Looks like you can enable XTU on the MSI GS66 and undervolt just boot into BIOS then press right shift, right control, left alt, f2 to get to advanced BIOS. Found it while playing with memory timings for the DDR4-2666 vs 2933 comparison. Not sure if this is for non K CPUs yet.”

This is for the GS66 but should apply for the GE66 too.......I hope it does anywayKevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

Yeah I am hoping that as well. Hopefully we will start to see some actual reviews on this unit soon. Wonder why GS66 reviews are popping up left and right and none for the GE66?IKAS V likes this. -
lol still no reviews or anything...guess were suppose to just blindly buy.

Yeah..finally something to see. Next week will be very important I guess. Hoping to see more reviews dropping on YT.

Hi all!
I'm really interested in the ge66.
I was about to buy the ge65 last week (2070 version) but I saw this is about to be released.
I can find the ge65 with 2070 and 32gb ram for 1650€. I saw it has one of the best thermal of all laptops in this category. I also like "clean" looking laptops
The only 2 downside I see are the battery life (improved with ge66) and the small trackpad with 2 physical buttons (I'm coming from a MacBook pro 2010, years ahead of Windows laptops in the trackpad department, but 2 physical buttons and small... Come on)...
I'm really interested in how this one will cost in Europe and if thermals will be on par with the ge 65 model -
We all are waiting for it. And hoping for it to provide the best gaming experience there is. Coming from MacBook will be a huge jump for you especially in the gaming front. Hold on to your desires and next week might reveal more details about it. Stay tuned to this forum.
-
For sure!
The main disadvantage I see is the trackpad of ge65 (I was thinking about buying the Apple magic trackpad and use with a ge65 hackintosh )... Depending on price and thermals, the ge66 could be the solution.
Yeah, I quit sim driving because i have no space for a desktop but only an old MacBook. And assetto Corsa competizione is really demanding -
not sure where i was reading this but the "regular" 2070 in the GE66 is not the same as the 2070's from last gen. Even though its not a super, there is supposed to be a refresh of the normal 2070 with the 10th gen Intel chips.
I have a macbook pro 2017 and a GE75 with 8th gen Intel and 2070. there is a huge difference between the track pad on the macbook and any and the GE75. Though the GE75 isn't that bad compared to other windows laptops I have always wished there was no physical buttons.
I happened to need a 2nd gaming laptop so i preorded the GE66, since it looks like it upgrades and fixes a lot of my nitpicks with the GE75.
really the battery alone is a huge boon over the last gen most laptops you need to spend 50-100 to remove a HDD and add a bigger battery anyway so spending the $150 (or euro's in your case, think it was 1799 in all everywhere) isnt a terrible idea you are getting a slightly better chip on top of that and a 240hz screen (not sure if the ge65 has 144 or 240). even if its minor difference in chipsets it can only get better as it does not make business sence to sell something inferior to a previous generation for more money.Last edited: May 2, 2020 -
Yes, it will be different. The refreshed 2070s will have more efficient but slower 11gbps 1.25v GDDR6 vs 14gbps 1.35v GDDR6. This is supposed to allow the gpu core to boost higher by diverting power from the gddr6 to the gpu.
-
RTX 2070S I believe has 200 more Cuda cores than “last gens” older RTX 2070
-
Yeah but it all depends on the complete package. Look a the screenshot I am attaching.
The GE65 with a 2060 has a boosted fps against the similar equipped machines!! look at the score, it's unbelivable... And I think it's only due to better thermals. Imagine the ge65 with a 2070...
The asus gx502gw is thin and thermal throttling but look at the amazing fps you get JUST BECAUSE you have gsync hence a dedicated vga directly connected to the monitor (while other laptops has the dedicated vga passing through the iGPU, and with optimus you get less fps because of this "sharing" of the workload). Imagine attaching a ge65 with 2070 to an external screen and gaining that boost you see on the gx502gw...
On the paper, all seem equal and good. When you play them, it's totally different and it's difficult to get relaiable results of the laptos you're interested.Attached Files:

Asked in the other thread, but why isn't there any official owner's lounge for these series yet? Usually someone makes a new one for each (GS66, GE65, GE75, GS75, GP75, GF75 etc). There seems to be no GT anywhere.

Anyone know wht material they used on these cant find it anywhere im coing form ags65 and id rather not have to deal with all plastic build...the rgb i can dela with as id shut it down
-
People usually just use these kinds of announcement threads as the owner's lounge.
-
There’s also this “review” but it actually has some conflicting info. Mainly Moniz is saying that the whole laptop is plastic, while BiginnersTech is saying it’s aluminum. Who knows maybe they are both right because they got shipped 2 different pre production units. One units pipes were completely painted black, while the other was only partially painted black and had copper sticking out.
this one is not really any better but he does address the light bar a bit more.

I was talking about the Regular 2070 NON-Super. There is a difference between last gen and this gen. The 2070(reg) also got a minor upgrade over last gens 2070
-
I reckon both are max p instead of max q so they will give out good performance per dollar....compared to a 2080s MQ.......I know even the 2060 gets bout 90w or more in this round which would put it on par if not over a 2070 MQ
-
they are definitely not MQ, last years was 115w and I’m guessing this gen will be too, or at least I’m hopingIKAS V likes this.
-
2070 and 2070s are MP, 2060 is 90-100w, 2080 and 2080s are mq so this round its crazy to choose the 2080 unless u need the 8 core cpu
-
Would you LM a GE66?
-
Lid Aluminum, Top deck Aluminum Bottom PLastic
-
Is Gs66 the same?
-
I am too scared to use LM with my preorder I could have gotten LM for free but even if im not the one doing it, to me LM pros get outweighed by the cons so I just go with regular paste
-
yeah figured same...what config u preorder?
-
the basic 1799 one, I have 32gb Corsair vengeance, a 1tb we black sn750 m.2 NVMe for that 3.5k mb/s speed as the main drive and a 1tb 960 evo m.2 (which is slower only gen1 or possibly gen2 I forget) for data and photos waiting to be put in.
you? -
Whats the basic one again?
-
