Every brand has its strengths and weaknesses relative to other laptops (Sager is powerful and affordable but bulky and loud, etc...). Do they run hot, cheap screen, excellent keyboard etc... I would like to know what to expect as I really love the new MSI that powernotebooks is providing. Thanks.

An alternative good choice is Aspire One and the Dell E. Apparently Aspire One is cheaper and decent as well with 120GB & 1GB RAM.

Does my opinion count?
We have found the MSI high end product to be soundly built with firm and comfortable keyboards. The newer models (e.g. starting with the 1719) are amazingly cool and quiet (which could not be said of the 1710 and prior models). Their biggest flaw was they used a simple PS/2 touchpad but that has now been corrected with the Synaptics touchpad with lock-out HotKey.
They stay conservative on the video cards, offering only the 9600M GT in both the 15.4" (1651) and 17" (1722), but of course that contributes nicely to how cool and quiet they run. They are not for the Uber Gamer, but are great for the next step down.
Overall they have grown into a true class act. -

Thanks a lot. Looks like this indeed will finally replace my cl56/powerpro 5:6 as a true successor (thin, cool, quiet, good performance). I will still wait for a few weeks to solidify the finances so maybe someone will post a review by then. Last question. The one thing I truly sacrificed with my old model was the screen quality (which was average at best for even back then). While undoubtedly better now in general, how does MSI screen quality hold up to the new Compals and Sagers? I'd love a LED screen but they don't offer it at the higher resolution (and its probably a luxury I can live without).

You are correct that the PowerPro M 5:6 did not have good viewing angles and in no way compares to what we are shipping now.
What you can pretty much count on now is if you are getting a high end video card you will get a high quality screen. One of the ways they keep the price down on the integrated video models is with lesser spec'd LCD screens...but the market has developed now to the point that we don't dare ship a lower end screen with a high end video card...(think lynch mob)

LOL. Thanks. I was just curious if there was an real quality difference between the brands but like you said, I think I be more than happy with any of them.

I have a Megabook L720 which I bought just over a year ago. Lucky it has a 2 year warranty, as it has been back and forward to MSI 4 times, before they finally replaced it with a new one of the same model. Same problems exist, although some are not happening. I am still getting MGSYSCTRL error and at times by screen goes blank with different coloured screens. It has also been losing its settings and last week it just froze and I couldnt even go to previous windows settings or safe mode etc. The only thing I could do was to restore it back to factory settings. I would be thinking twice before ever considering another MSI. I am new here, so would love any help from anyone.

How is their customer service/warranty support?

Who are you referring to when you say "their"...MSI or your vendor?
To check on anyone's customer service rating probably the best place to go is www.ResellerRatings.com -
Wondering about MSI's.

You will almost always get better customer service from a dealer (reseller) than you will from the manufacturer.
However having said that MSI's is better than most manufacturer's support. -
Of course, I have not updated any part of my desktop since I picked up a Radeon x700 - so clearly I think I just may not be up to date on the latest stuff. -
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
Hope this helps clear this up for you. -

So, the only way we can really get a feel for MSI direct Customer Service would be from the Current MSI Laptop OWNERS and their experience.
Sooooo!?!?!?

@ L720,
Believe it or not ... I was thinking about your problem this morning ... may be you can tell us what your Specs are (CPU, GPU, ... ) and what OS do you have and what other softwares run on a normal basis ... And then run a Trend and LOG whe this happens and post back ... there are a lot of experienced people on this Forum that might be able to help you better than MSI Tech Support.
How old is your MSI laptop ... If you are still under Warranty ... this is the time really go after it and get it fixed ... or is it even worth the headache of sending it back & forth ... BTW, do you have to pay Shipping & Insurance every tiem you ship it out?
I am really curious to see what is causing your problem ... could happen to any one of us!
L720 ... but I am sure probably is better if you post your Problem under Correct Sub-Thread ... so no-one would complain.
