IMO the laptop looks like GS65's successor.

Nice. Wonder what they did different, that's a fairly dramatic change in size.

Probably more efficient parts...perfect example is the 2x330W Delta power brick, with the knowledge, anyone can home make a 600W+ power adapter which takes the size of 1 Delta 330W adapter (perfect example is the home made adapter by Eurocom for Clevo laptops).

Hopefully they did not cut corners and the laptop will not have power throttling issues :)

GaN (Gallium Nitride) transistors seemed to finally pick up this generation, which seems to be the enabling force behind a lot of these smaller PSUs.

I really don't think that laptop charger will adopt GaN so fast due to its high cost. Some design optimization is more likely the reason for smaller size.

Does the new power adapter have a name? It reminds me of the white apple charger if the square plugs right into the wall. I’m all for lighter chargers for sure.

    Isn't that the USB-C adapter (65W) ?

Wonder if I can buy a new one of these small chargers for my GE72 MVR with GTX1070?

No clue but if it powers the GS65, its at least a 240w PSU.

    Ah.
15W Whiskey Lake CPU. 65W or 90W charger, depending on Intel or Nvidia graphics. Barrel jack.

I read that you could also power the MSI (or ASUS ?) laptop using a small usb-c adapter (65W), not for gaming obviously, since it will drain the battery more than it will charge, but for idle/surf/studying it could be used.

It was in one of their CES slide if I recall either ASUS or MSI.

Probably not MSI. They've refused to implement USB-C charging for years, and I haven't seen anything indicating a change in that stance.

I believe that is ASUS. It's mentioned by Jarrod in his ASUS CES video in reference to the GX701

ASUS, they had one that you could use for day to day tasks on the smaller adapter and then plug in the bigger one for gaming.

I heard this in several interviews at CES that iI have watched. It will switch between the onboard card and the RTX card, and when it's using the onboard card, the laptop will be able to be charged using usb type-C. But for anything else usb-C will not be able to provide enough voltage to power the laptop.
