Last week my HDD screwed me over. I had to reinstall Windows 7, and after this I've had some problems with my machine.

    - I can't seem to find any drivers for three of the buttons on touch panel (Eco, media thingie and P1)

    - Anyone know a gpu driver where hibernation and sleep actually works? I tried the one from the driver cd, 10.5 and 10.11.

    - Also, I think the computer is warmer than it used to - HWMonitor says 72C degrees on LTD MS 1656(RAM?), 60-65C on cpu, 71 on gpu when it is idle, and in heavy gaming it goes up to 90.
I ran the test of AMD Overdrive, and degrees gone up to 100,99 and 95C.

    Thanks!

You need the SCM utility from the MSI's site or the CD. Be aware that the SCM from MSI's site have been updated.

    SCM

As for the hibernation problem, you can try to turn off Powerplay or update the vbios. You need the original stock driver that MSI release if you prefer to stay with the stock vbios or not turn off the powerplay.

You can also look into changing the clock speed/voltage using CCC from this post. The value you want to change is the middle clock speed as that would allow you to downclock to 100/150 properly when you are not using the GPU with the notebook's LCD. This is base on the new vbios so your mileage may varied.

SCM installed and PowerPlay disabled, gonna update vbios later.. But about the downclocking -
Apparently CCC got a new layout, and I can't find profiles settings.. x_x

The "profile setting" have been renamed/changed to "presets". If you do not see the preset tab then click on preference (top right) and choose advance view. The XML files are located in the same area just make sure to have "show hidden files" turn on.

    Couldn't get it to work..
Downloaded AMD GPU Clock Tool and set launch options for normal and downclocking as two shortcuts. If this has any chance of frying my gpu or sumth, please tell me right now :p

No, your gpu won't fry, you can rest assured :)

Actually his temps are rather high. 71C at idle is way too much. You should not be overclocking until you get your temps under control. Take the heatsink off and reapply some thermal paste. Reinstall the heatsink and then take it off again to see how well the paste is spreading over the heatsink. If the paste is not spreading evenly, you will probably need to add a copper shim about .5mm thick to compensate for the gap between the gpu and the heatsink. It's a well know issue with these laptops.

Edit: Didn't realize you were using the AMD clock tool to underclock, not overclock. Your temps are still high though.

His temps is high but that because of MSI strange way of underclocking the GPU. If I recall, 500/1000@PCI-E x 1 2.0 is what the idle clock speed that MSI chosen for the stock vbios. Repasting would be a waste of time unless the OP update his vbios. But I do agree with you the OP should take care of his temp first.

    100/100 @ 1V - 54-55C idle
    625/1000 @1V - 65-66C idle
    Ambient temp.. 17-18C

Can't seem to change voltage on gpu tool..

I'm a beginner to modding and stuff, but I heard rumours that drilling holes on gpu cover helps !?

That's still higher than it should be, I think. I have an I5 rather than an I7, but in a hotter room (~20C) I get these temps:

    45C idle at 100/[email protected]
    55C idle at 625/[email protected].

An I7 shouldn't add 10 degrees of heat.

Hm? I also have an i5 cpu..

After a cold startup with the machine running 10 min before I downclocked, it gone from 57 to 51C.
It seems like idle temperatures gets higher after 1-2 hours of running.

Sorry, misread the thread posts. So with an i5 you definitely have temps that are too high. Getting hotter after 1-2 hours of running sounds like a fan issue, either too much dust or not working properly? How loud is the fan at your temps?

In downclocked mode i'd say one step below regular idle. Problem with stock clocked gpu is that the fan speed go up and down every ~10 seconds, which makes the fan easier to notice instead of a constant background noise.

I'll report more when I get back home in 1-2 hrs.

100/100 seems to have stabilized on 50C after 20-30 minutes running.
Now the fan is running randomly between step 1 ( very comfortable noise levels) and 2 ( I can hear the fan through my headset).
I'd like to know if the hole-drilling would actually work so I could get the noise down again.

Also, would undervoltage help bring downclocking temps down?

: 7 hours of online time with 10 mins of mw2 about an hour ago - downclocked state stabilizes at 59C.

I don't know, man, still seems way too hot to me. Your temps were normal before you did your clean install?

As for drilling, I wouldn't recommend doing it until you know exactly what's going on with your system. If you have to RMA it, you're going to want to make sure it's in pristine condition.

They don't care about the papers or warranty sticker. All they need is serial number/barcode under the battery.
