I have a GS70 with SteelSeries Engine.
SteelSeries Engine allows for customization of the colors of the keyboard's backlight. However, there is a unique color setting called "Audio", which supposedly detects the frequencies and amplitude of sound outputted by the laptop and enables different colors of keyboard lighting in accordance to the sound being played.
However, when I set the lighting effect to "Audio", save the custom profile, and play audio through iTunes or online through Youtube, my keyboard does not light up at all.
This feature is demonstrated in this video that I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOIfNdX2S2g
If anyone knows how to properly enable this feature, please, divulge your secret.
Thanks in advance.

Have you updated the BIOS and EC firmware to the latest version? What about SSE itself? -
Turn on the audio setting and cranck the volume to 50%+.
It doesnt work if its less than 50% volume. -
Disappointing that the feature only works with the laptop's speakers, because they are awful.
Thanks! -
I couldn't get it to work as well. I'm using the laptops own speaker but the keyboard wont light up
Mine is a GT70 -
I've got the same problem. Got a Gt70 dominator pro 890. Keyboard didn't do anything when I played music and had it on audio. Had the volume at a 100, reinstalled steelseries engine, and Realtek drivers. Tried audio on iTunes youtube and Pandora. Please help... The keyboard lights up on all the other light effect combinations correctly. Called msi and all they said was reinstall steel series or the night be something wrong and the computer has to be returned. But given that other people have the same problem and because the other light effects work I suspect it's a software or settings thing... Advice?

How odd. I can perfectly play with music using music mode on my GT60. I wonder where the bug lies?

1. Uninstall Steel Series Engine
2. Uninstall Realktek Audio Drivers.
3. Go to MSI.com, and go to your laptops main website, in my case its the GT 70 Dominator Pro 2PE. Even if youre computer is a sub version, (mine is a 890), go to the main site.
4. Click on utilities and download the latest steel series engine and realtek audio drivers.
5.Restart computer
6. Download cc cleaner, and run the cleaner. Also run the registry clearner, and hit it a couple of times, and delete unwanted registry left overs.
7. Install realtek audio driver (restart after)
8. Install steel series engine (restart after)
I tried to play on pandora, youtube, a video, and itunes, and now the audio setting works...
Sounds like it was old drivers that needed to be updated that caused the problem... -
Many people seem to have trouble with this as far as I observed. I hope they run up to your post -

But it is weird that they mostly worked right out of box. -
No worries man, hopefully that works. I have a feel it will especially if the other light effects work for you...

Mine is an 890, but I got it upgraded to super raid 2...So 7200 rpm hard drive was moved from the primary hard drive bay to accomodate the msata controller. Xotic pc installed all required drivers for the pc to run, but none of the other utilities. The original sse I had installed were an old version.

I too have a GT70 and can only have the audio setting work if the audio is being played through the laptops speakers.
I wish there was a way to have it work with any audio device.extrospector likes this.
