Hi,
Is it possible to buy the backlit steelseries keyboard and install it manually into a 1761 whitebook unit? (Mine is the force 1761 from xoticpc). Are the keyboards available separately anywhere?

It requires a hardware mod.

Thanks Meaker. Do you have any information about this mod, or can you point me in the right direction?

I actually have the steelseries backlit keyboard in my 1761 barebone. It was not difficult to put in at all.

Thanks,
I got the steelseries keyboard, but there's a second ribbon cable (beige colored) and I don't know what it attaches to...and I can't see a place to put it....:/ -
Notwithstanding Meakers original comment which for all I know is completely true and correct, the connector for the much smaller ribbon cable you are talking about is actually on the bottom of the motherboard. So basically on the topside, you feed that little ribbon cable down through the hole (near the bottom left of the keyboard) pushing it through to the backside of the laptop. Then turn your laptop over, remove the 7 screws and remove the cover. Having the laptop oriented so the GPU is at the top left and the CPU is more toward the bottom right, you will notice on near the bottom right of the CPU a small connector on the motherboard that will hopefully be present, and if it is it will accept the ribbon cable that controls the LED lights on your new keyboard. You will notice the smaller ribbon cable has a kink in it, fold the ribbon cable exactly on that kink, and it will be correctly oriented for the connection. Good luck
