I noticed both of these laptops have places for a internal TV tuner. I was wondering what TV tuners you all are useing and wheres a good place to get them.
I am also wondering about the antenna socket on the outside of the case, I seen a pic where someone had an antenna hooked up but had to use 3 adapters or more to get from the Laptops plug, to a standard cable, is there an easier solution?
Of Course ATSC is a must for a TV tuner as NTSC will no longer work jhere really soon.

I believe that the USA version actually did not...
So... i'm going to have to say -
i have a tv tuner for mine but im looking for the adapter for the antenna plug. it recognised the card and i installed the drivers. but i dont have a antenna yet
-
i might want to buy one from you tooxD
-
no i dont get anything without the antenna. i need the right adapter for it. i was able to install the driver though and it saw the card installed.

hmm, well, i must have been wrong any way...
I should PM this, but (depending on the wife factor) will mine have a slot for the tuner and an antenna slot? (for down the road xD) -
It is actually just a normal mini PCIe slot, but both models have one available w/ the external antena wire ran to it. -
yeah they all have the pci-e slot and antenna connector but the antenna connector is odd compared to the normal tuner antenna's out there

I am doing alot of googling ad I have found a couple interesting finds, one of them come back to this forum.
this is suppose to be the adapter cable you need z83V TV cable
Here is a thread with pics of the adapter.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=219086 has pics of the adapter and more.
It seems that one of the most poputlar cards I am finding being used is the Avermedia A312 Mini Pci-E TV FM NTSC Atsc Tuner Card Has antenna listed in the items included. I can't seem to find a retail package for this, only OEM links.
It seems a few USB TV Tuners also use this connection and come with smaller antenna that hook directly up to them. i might try and get one of these and use the antenna with the internal TV tuner.
Please Note, I do not yet have my Laptop or any of the items I linked to, so I can not gaurentee that they will work. As soon as I recieve my Laptop I will be able to try out the adapters. -
wish i could see a pic of that adapter to see if its what we really need
-
-
thats the one thank you!!
-
I showed my brother (expert) the antenna port on the exterior of the laptop ... he commented that it was similar to those used on some gps devices and should neither be expensive or difficult to locate.
-
yeah im going to call my vendor tomm to see if they carry the adapter
-

so i didnt get really get anywhere as i havent called MSI, but there you have some more knowledge than previously. -
I have ordered a couple parts off e-bay that I think will work with the MSI Antenna connector.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=280306824919 and http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=270350364425
Not sure how well they will work as I dont have my laptop yet and it will be a while before I can get a tuner for it as well. I figure as long as they fit the connector they should work ok for picking up local channels over the air. -
yeah the msi has the smaller connector. please keep everyone posted if that will work. i tried ordering the part from asus but they sent me a email saying it was out of stock with no further info and my card was never charged.
-
you will need one of these:

hmm ill have to see if i can source one. i do get channels though rob but they are very poor reception wise and if i unplug the antenna i have i get nothing so i know its working but media center does not recognize it for some reason,
also the disc that came with my tuner (out of a sager 5793 and its a hybrid digital one) says i need the serial to install the tuner program but i have tried every number on the card and the box and none work they all say invalid serial so i have just been using media center. the drivers installed fine -
