    Texture glitch on Starcraft 2

So I was playing Starcraft 2 today, and during one of the missions I noticed a couple textures that weren't right. I closed out, and tried it again a few minutes later. Everything was fine. Is this a sign of a failing graphics card? I haven't had any other problems, and the last time I checked my temps (which was a few weeks ago), temps during sustained gameplay never got above 81 degrees Celsius. I also use an external laptop cooler.

If my graphics card is failing, do I contact ATI or MSI about getting this fixed (or getting a new card)? Also, I registered the first GX640 I got on MSI's website (and sent them the receipt), but that one ended up having overheating issues, so I was sent a new one. I just recently tried registering my current GX640, but found out I only had 30 days to send the receipt, and I have had the computer for a few months. Am I going to run into problems with the warranty on this computer? Note that MSI didn't handle the computer switch; Provantage just sent me a new computer and I sent the old GX640 to them.

Any help would be really appreciated.

It seems that you're overreacting. There are many factors that could influence artifacts/texture errors ingame. Failing graphics card is only on them an not necessarily the case here since after game restart it was normal.
Just relax and it'll be fine

I had a 9500pro back in the days it worked perfect but sometimes it would glitch out the way you described even in bios boot up, and sometimes in windows. Sent it in, RMA'd, got it back by that time I bought a 9800Pro. Yeah it could work for a long time as mine did and ignored the glitches or replace it just in case.

Ok, well those are two very different responses. I guess I'll give a little more detail of the situation in case it makes a difference. First of all, my computer had been on for about 2 hours downloading a game off Steam before I played SC2, and I played SC2 for an hour and a half before I got the texture glitches. Now about the glitches - they only seemed to occur on one small place of the map. They were like two brown blotches. Everything else on the screen was fine.

Also, could anyone answer my questions about the warranty and who to contact if the graphics card is going bad?

Edit: I just ran furmark, and I didn't see any graphical glitches during the benchmark. I then ran the furmark stability test for 4 minutes, and still didn't see any glitches. Also, during the 4 minute stability test, the max gpu temperature was 86 degrees celsius. Does this mean anything in regards to my situation?

You will have to pay MSI to repair the 5870 mobility card IF IT is actually dying.

Make sure you have the latest drivers installed. The mobility 10.7s :).

So are you saying I won't be able to have the warranty on this computer? Why would I have to pay them for something that died within a few months?

And yeah, my drivers are the 10.7 ones.

When you buy a laptop from a reseller they will usually give you an exchange for up to 30 days if the laptop breaks down. After those 30 days the buyer is supposed to have already registered the laptop anyway, because that's when the warranty would be in MSI's care.

Hmm...ok. Anyway, do my furmark results look promising? Does the fact that there was no artifacting or texture glitches mean I'm pretty safe?

Ok, that's promising...especially since I'm going to be a broke college kid in a couple of weeks  . One more thing - I just ran 3dmark06, and it ran fine with no glitches. Is that significant? I'm beginning to believe that the texture glitch was just game-related.

I would just run ati tool .27 beta 3 or w/e the lastest is (from years ago)

scan for artifacts, if you get non then you're golden :)

Ok, so I ran the artifact scanner on atitool .27 beta 4 twice, once with the default method of scanning and once with the older "more compatible" method (changed in settings menu). I ran both tests for 5 minutes, and I didn't get any artifacts. I think I'm good!

Edit: I just googled around and saw that people were running it for much longer times. Were my tests no good then? How long should it run?

I experience the same glitch during the final mission of the campaign of SC 2 on my GX740. It was the siege tank texture and some ground effects. I played through them and they haven't appeared since.

I believe they're game related. Since they haven't appeared in anything else.

Yeah, a friend of mine said that he would get wrong textures every once in awhile. I guess no game is perfect, but SC2 is still pretty amazing :D
