Any of the p series processors would be your best bet as the t series will output more heat.

Could anyone check the wear level of the battery on everest please? Mine was at 12%, I was already worried, now it just jumped to 16%
Fully Charged Capacity 44689 mWh
Wear Level 16 % -
Mine says:
Fully Charged Capacity 49861 mWh
Wear Level 6%
Dont know if everest reads that right, but even 6% seems a lot to me for a less than a month old notebook, although maybe newegg had it stored for a long time before selling it to me. i dont know if i received it like that or if it has degrade on me for jus using it a month -
how long do your batteries last on the lightest usage and lowest brightness? mine is about 2:20 on Vista and 2:00 on XP
-
if you mean that "turbo battery mode", i think it lasts around 2-2:30 hours with wireless off... don't know for sure.
-
I'm getting about ~2h with regular use. Maybe 1:30-1:45 when i'm playing a DVD.
-
Well, on turbo battery mode i do get around 3 to 3.5 hours with wirelless on and browsing the web and instant messaging before i have to plug it. I have never tried to play a DVD on battery

What FREE utility has anyone used to actually get the GPU temp readings?
I have used pcwizard and hwmonitor for general temps and cpu core temps but neither picks up GPU temps. -
wow that's HEAPS.. lucky you! i would like to hear from users on XP.. if their battery times are shorter than on Vista
AMD GPU Clock Tool -
AMD GPU Clock Tool does not work for my EX625. How did you get it to work for you?
-
In XP are you able to install drivers for the video card doesn't work for me.
-
open, select thermal sensors tab, select "ASIC Temperature via internal TSS" from the list (should be the only one), tick "Enable Reading", press Start
Everest also picks up the GPU temps
yeah i can.. the ones from MSI work --> http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=driverfile&dno=8389&i=1 -
Hey guys I just wanted to tell you to use GPUTool http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1383/GPUTool_Community_Technology_Preview_1.html
with 9.6 drivers to underclock
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
Link above has mobility drivers -
how did u get the 9.6's to install? mobility modder?
-
select OS, select mobility radeon (works on vista/windows 7) download and run under the website i posted above
-
cool got those drivers to install fine thanks
-
the 4670 is not in that list.. but i guess it doesn't matter?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
What's the highest 3dmark06 anyone has gotten with this notebook?
-
4670 is in 4000 series...
-
DNA 8.612 + Vista32
1280x768 6911
1366x768 6786
yes i know that. but the mobility radeon list of drivers for XP/Vista don't have that.. only the normal radeon list of drivers.. however the mobility 4000 series does appear in the Win7 drivers.. i wonder if those will work for XP -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
+rep, thanks. I didn't realize the notebook had a max resolution of 1366 x 768. -
has the BSOD attack resolve in all the ex625 users that were having issues?
-
No, we still have problems. Vaant has sent his EX625 back to MSI. MSI have the laptop and they know the problem, and are trying to find what´s wrong. But we have not heard from MSI yet. I guess they still have not been able to figure out what the problem is
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Does anyone has the fan problem? I remenber in the other ex 625 thread that a fan in someguy pc has started to wirl strangely loud, not the usual that looks like this note is gonna lift off but the sound that those old desktop fans (try year 2000 and down) it's very loud and disturbing
and it's not constant -
I had the same issue on my ex625 why i returned mine. If i turned it upside down the noise would stop.
Also 9.7 WHQL ati mobility drivers are out!!! -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
The thing is it really looks like it's spinning out of control... and I would return my pc if I wans't in Brazil (I had to import from us)
but have you opened your pc to verify what was causing it? 'cause I can't see anything wrong with the fan. -
The fan could need some oil on it or it could just be going bad.
-
Curious thing: I finished Crysis already, today I started a new game on expert or something, and it crashed. Anyway, the thing is, it does not BSOD after auto-savegame 30 or so, but it does a lot before that! Why would that be? The beginning of the game is not as heavy as the Ice part... that leads me back to think it's a driver issue.
Mr MM, passa seu msn ae =) -
The error can be produced anytime so just about every game is capable of BSOD'ing. Have you guys played Crysis Warhead the game seems stable no BSOD yet
-
I have tried Crysi Warhead. BSOD`d on me 2 times, didnt played it more

Hey guys. I purchased my MSI EX625 about two months ago. It runs very well, with little problem. Though recently (within the last week) my cpu fan has begun to make an odd humming noise, as though it is gently grinding on something. I opened it up to see if there was possibly a foreign object inside the fan casing. Everything was clean, not even dust
I then did some research witch lead me to the possibility that the fan bearing may need some oil. My question is, if this is the case, how would I go about oiling the bearing of the cpu fan in my EX625? Or, if a replacement is in order, what cpu fan should I purchase? -
It seems the fans in these machines are faulty.. had the same problem had to return mine. I too opened up my laptop but couldn't figure out how to take the fan apart to add oil to it. I would suggest if your not computer savvy to send it in repair as the folks over at MSI were very nice about fixing it when I had the problem. I decided I did not want to wait and got a refund and bought a Sony.
-
What cpu fan model would be adequate for replacing this faulty one?
-
my fan was making noise when i bought the laptop also. It would only make noise at a certain speed (when it was running slower).
This actually went away with time. -
Could be a wearing in period with the fans maybe?
-
Hello! Well... my laptop continues to crash randomly in team fortress 2. Its getting really annoying :| And now my spacebar and letter B key has stopped working completely. I cleaned underneath them with a qtip and they are still inop... so I think its time to RMA this beast. I cant seem to find where to RMA, the normal RMA site doesnt have an option for notebooks. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
-
This is the website-
http://www.msicomputer.com/NB/index.asp
Remember to make it VERY clear to them what issues you're having, I had to send my laptop in twice because the first time they only ran a few tests and determined my laptop was fine.
I just got my laptop back from them yesterday after sending it in a second time. They were able to fix my BSOD problems during games by replacing the graphics card, so make it clear that its an issue with the graphics card or they might only fix the keyboard problems you're having.
Since you get the same problem as I did you could probably mention me, my RMA# was NR09015603. Knowing that might save MSI some time since I assume the problems you have with BSOD are the same as mine were.
Best of luck. -
Vaant, when you did the warranty registration for your laptop did you send in your purchase receipt and original UPC?
I've registered mine but did not send these two items, so now I'm wondering if I should if anything goes wrong.
-
No I didn't, and my laptop automatically showed as being in warranty until 2012 after I registered so didn't bother ^^;.
-
Good to know. Now to figure out what's up with the Windows 7 upgrade option regarding original receipt and UPC for those of us who purchased between May and June 2009.
I put my order in so we'll see what the MSI forums admin finds out for us. -
are these laptops still on sale? i cant find where to buy one
-
I just bought a MSI factory refurbished EX625 from Ebay. Should receive it on Wednesday. These have become extremely rare and any new ones are already sold out. As noted in this thread there are some who have had serious vid card issues with this laptop. My first EX625 runs fine. My second open box EX625 had a bad vid card. Hopefully third time's the charm with this one I'll be getting. I figure if it's factory refurbished they've worked all the bugs out, hopefully
-
Good luck with that MightyT, let us know how that works out
-
Anybody here got the subwoofer working in Vista 64 bit or Win7 64bit? I already installed SCM and I can turn on the CinemaPro but the subwoofer doesn't work only the 2 top speakers are working. Any suggestions? Thanks!
-
Yep mines is working without issue and others as well have got it working. Your subwoofer could be bad.

Hi all,
I have just come across this laptop on sale in the UK as the EX625-249UK spec model (for example, here) and wondered if you guys would still recommend it given the graphics card issues?
In the UK it comes with
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0 GHz Dual-Core
4GB DDRII
500GB Hard Drive
16" monitor
Blu Ray
and the ATI Radeon HD 4670
I have been looking at the new Acer 5739G, which costs about the same money, but I was looking to import from Germany as it had, spec wise
Intel Core™2 Duo P7350 2x 2,0 GHz
4GB DDRIII
500GB Hard Drive
15.6" Monitor (though with the same resolution as the 16" above
)
No Blu Ray
and the new NVIDIA® GeForce® GT240M with 1GB GDDRIII
I think the ATI graphics card shades the NVIDIA, but the processor is slightly worse on the MSI and the RAM is only DDRII as opposed to DDRIII. The upside is I don't have to have the hassle of converting everything from German to English, and then doing the same again with a Windows 7 upgrade! Also the Blu-Ray is helpful though not essential.
Would you guys have a preference given the choice? -
I would go with the MSI, no one from the UK has posted saying they've had problems and only a few of us had the problems with the GPU anyway.
It also comes with a Blu-Riay drive which will come in handy if you don't have a PS3 or a blu ray player already and you can even use the HDMI port to connect it to a HDTV. I'm from the UK but now live in the states (I certainly don't miss paying UK prices for electronics!) and I know the problems you can run into from importing electronics, even Germany uses a different kind of plug socket than the UK does so you might run into problems importing. And I doubt you'd notice too much difference in DDR2 and 3 RAM and the processor is fine for this laptop even for high end games with the 4670 you won't run into any problems.
Definitely go with the MSI, just as powerful and you won't have problems you might face with importing. -
Yeah, the main problem with the Acer from Germany is the language conversion within Windows Vista. Apparently you can change the language on all of the menus within Vista Professional, but not Home Premium. There are non-microsoft programs which can, but, once you upgrade to Windows 7, the language resets to the original and I have to do it again
The power socket is just a simple 2 to 3 pin plug as the power adaptor is dual voltage.
I did look at importing from the US now the £ is doing better again, but think the VAT might make it more expensive.
I think the MSI support network is better than the Acer one in the UK anyway, which is always handy. The big numbers of 1GB GDDR3 and 3mb L2 cache initially swayed me to the Acer, but I don't think the difference in the processors will be massive (as suggested by Notebookcheck. You're looking at only a 20 mark difference on 3DMark) -
About importing from the USA, this laptop does have a duel voltage ac/dc adapter so it would work in the UK but after the shipping costs and import taxes it wouldn't be worth it, also you'd most likely not be covered by the warranty in the UK
The Asus might be SLIGHTLY more powerful, but the MSI has a better GPU, slightly bigger screen, looks better, more features e.g. 2.1 speakers and Blu Ray. I'm a big fan of Blu Ray so that's a huge positive in my book (even though my EX625 doesn't have Blu Ray drive
)
If I were you I'd buy the MSI in the UK, it would save you ALOT of time and possible trouble, plus MSI are more well known in the UK and as you said they have a better support network than Asus there too. -
ex628 has just been released.. only difference i can see is 1gb 4670 instead of 512mb.. maybe those wanting an ex625 can now get one? (i haven't seen it in any online shops yet however)
