Hello everyone i feel today is my time to contribute and help everyone seeking help on how to reduce heat and power well my lovely peoples here is how.

First of all please by aware that this may cause your system to become unstable it may cause a shutdown BSOD GSOD OR EVEN A DAFT SOD :D.

I hope this can help anyone and everyone but please people who are not boons or are tech savvy people don't know this stuff straight out of the book so many people out there will want to learn stuff give them a chance guys that's why I did this to help them people :).

Anyway let me jump right in and show you how observe this....

Please read this and read it in an odd accent of your choice it may make it more sorry less boring :p.

First of all make sure you have a graphics card and a laptop obviously .......

Now if your an ATI red label user please download the latest drivers from here........>
    Graphics Drivers & Software

For the green boys the nvidia boys just go here lads.....>
    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

    Now.

    ATI users.

Go into your CCC which would look something like this ......

Now click the top left panel i show you here ......

Once you get to this part click ATI OVERRIDE AS IT SHOWS IN ABOVE PIC.

Now once you have done that it should display like core and memory clocks etc there should be a small key icon asking if you would like to unlock press it then a warning screen comes up just press yes and continue now....

Once you have done this it should have default clocks of 405 Mhz Core and something like 1000 Mhz Memory clock .....

Now here is the super easy part scroll your mouse over the core clock and slide the panel until it says 405 MHz core leave it there now go over to memory clock and slid that back also and reduce it to 500 Mhz this should now look like this ...... pic to follow.

Now once you have done this simply hit the apply button and watch your temps go down and your machine will reduce its power intake more battery for you and more web surfing for you to.

Now simply if you want to go back to normal settings just slide that bar back to its normal speeds NOTE THE SOME GPU'S CAN ALSO AUTO DOWN CLOCK SO DON'T BE ALARMED IF IT CHANGES.

I hope this has helped some people at least it helped me save more battery and also reduce my heat wile watching youtube videos and web surfing.

PLEASE NOTE THIS SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR HEAVY USE GAMING OR HEAVY DUTY TASKS.

    Thank you very much.

NVIDIA ONE TO FOLLOW WHEN I GET TIME.

Unless there's something funky going on with the system, the Radeon cards should downclock all by themselves without having to "force" them. For example, my card is idling at 100/150 (lower that the 405/500 in your example) and its power state is also lower.

If you really want some aggressive power savings strategies, it'll probably involve messing with the vBIOS, like underclocking and undervolting. I've tried doing that, in fact, but for some reason even a 1MHz change in non-gaming clock profiles or a .05v change will cause crashes while on battery. No idea why it's doing that.

Also, for more power savings don't forget limiting processor max states and the time it takes for an idle HDD to spin down.

True however down clocking so low can cause problems.

ALSO TO ALL USERS JUST WOULD LIKE TO SAY IN CAPS WHEN YOU UNPLUG YOUR LAPTOP YOUR GPU OR ATI OVERRIDE WILL AUTO LOCK AS IT GOES INTO SAFE MODE SO IF YOU CLOCKED IT HIGH AND IT LOCKS DON'T WORRY IT WILL JUST DROP IT DOWN FOR YOU AND WHEN YOU PLUG BACK IN TO POWER YOU CAN THEN USE IT AGAIN SIMPLE.

This is just MINI NOOB GUIDE NOTHING TO MASSIVE GUYS.

Cause problems? How so? A 5870 at 100/150 is more than enough for Aero, and if you need a little more graphics horsepower the card will clock it self up to deal with it.

Manually clocking down is an unnecessary hassle.

A noob guide would be one that correctly configures power and clock states. That way the token noob won't have to go back and forth clocking his 5870 all the time.

    Oh well. It's your thread.
