Anyone find any canadian stores offering preorders?
I can't deal with the $200 shipping again.

I am thinking of getting the MSI GT60. I want know what major advantage a 4X Blu-Ray Reader has over the 6X Blu-Ray Reader.

Last time i read, Blu-ray has failed. I think most people would ditch the blu-ray drive and get a caddy in its place. You can add an HDD (or ssd) that way if you need space.

I would like to suggest you to shell out a little more one your budget, believe me, a gt60 with gtx 680m is totally worth it. And, you would be having it with you over the coming years, so why not get the one laptop you really want, then you will be most satisfied. But if you cannot, I would like to recommend you np9150. Also you can fill out the form and post in the "What notebook should I buy" section, nbr members could be a big help to you.

Thanks aban714. I will forget the whole idea of the blu-ray and get an SSD ( ;) preferably the crucial 512GB ) as my primary drive since the new GT60 comes with only one HDD. I will just leave the disk drive for now. Should I need more space in the future, I can always invest in a Hard Drive Caddy.

Well I see you are a retailer. I have pre-ordered the GT70 0NE-276US w/ overnight shipping, and I was told to look for it around the end of the month, "End of July". You seem to be indicating possible delays. What are you hearing?

I am anxious to receive it, but honestly it doesn't matter really. I am getting it anyway. Can't wait! If it is delayed, I don't think it will be that long, and it will be worth the wait. In the mean time, my GT783 is serving me well.

    :)

What do you mean by Blu-Ray has failed? I was thinking of getting a 4X Blu Ray and a HDD+SSD (If that's possible). Are you saying its uses aren't practical or that there's some problem with using it?

Well, bluray has failed in the private sector. It does quite well in the business sector where it is used for longer-term archives.

I think "fail" is simply in terms of comparison to DVD which solved a problem we had no solution for at the time.

DVD was for both our movie systems and our computers.
Now, its really only for movies (for people trying to play by the rules) and really only because the MPAA people are being stupid.

Now a home user can just have one USB optical drive for legacy installs, USB external drives or flash drives for moving data without a network, (useful for de-lousing your friends' computers) and a large USB3/esata/TB hard disk for backup.

That being said, I'd still order a blu-ray reader installed as I'd use it for reading work archives.
I completely understand why someone else might not need it, but its not like the optical drive is going to keep you from having an SSD in the GT60.

I think the GT60 has two full hdd bays AND a mini-SSD slot as well as its optical bay.

Ah, so if I don't plan to watch Blu-Ray, it's useless huh? (Obviously Yanm. . .) I don't watch movies much in the first place, so I guess that can save some money. I haven't kept track of the Blu-Ray industry at all. . .I have a long time until I order anyway, so I'll give it some thought. I am going to use this in college, so who knows?

Note that having a DVD drive is still quite useful if you have legacy software on DVD and CD. :)

    True....very true....

As i recall, there are two sata III bays. The ODD is sata II right? Was wondering what having a sata III ssd there would do??

You remember you had them right at the very least! XD

    Excellent choice my friend.

Is there any 'haggling' or discount coupons to use to buy an MSI GT70? It seems the best place to buy from would be xoticpc or powernotebooks but I don't think that do the haggling bit or have any coupons like Dell. Seems like the price on these notebooks is fixed within a few dollars.

    Thanks.

I'll be upgrading to the GT60. I cannot wait!!!

I have been using MSI GT627-261us that I repaired. I picked it up for free and had a spare LCD for it and replaced the LCD bezels. As I travel a fair amount it was a much needed weight drop from my Gateway FX p-7801u.
