PowerNotebooks MSI GT783R-625 Gaming Laptop

GenTech PC - Customize GT783R-625US
- XOTIC PC - MSI GT783R-658US MSI Custom Gaming Laptop
- XOTIC PC - MSI GT783R-625US MSI Custom Gaming Laptop
The difference between the two models seems to be in storage and RAM. One has dual 750GB HDDs, another 128GB SSD + 750GB HDD as base. 12GB RAM vs 16GB RAM, quite an overkill for a basic option in both cases in my opinion.

Old News.

And we have way cheaper options too!

Difference between resellers: For some reason XoticPC lists generic SATA III 128 GB SSD and PowerNotebooks/GenTech Sata II 128GB SSD for 625 model. Is there any word on the model names for those SSD, which listing is accurate?
My bad, didn't bother to check that thread because I thought it was just for GT780 Owners. This is the first time I noticed those new options on their websites, so decided to make a new thread.
I'm still confused about SSDs. Ken Lee from Gentech showed Sata II Transcend, Donald from PowerNotebooks is saying that the standard SSD isn't even Sata II and is a terrible old model. XoticPC claims to sell Sata III, but doesn't mention the specific name for the drive. I really wish Justin or someone else from Xotic would clear that up for us. -

So, buried in a 500 plus page thread that doesn't even hold this model's name makes it old news...I don't think so...I call that buried news.
Thanks for starting the MSI GT783R thread EllatanThis model will dance on the MSI GT780DX.
To answer your question, the MSI GT783R-625 comes with a Transcend SATA II 128GB SSD standard, along with a Steelseries Siberia V/2 Full Size Pro Gaming headset, Steelseries Kinzu mouse, a HUGE Steelseries QcK mass ProGaming mousepad, Dirt3 and a big 'ole backpack to hold it all...shoot, the accessories box is bigger than the computer box
And, they both come standard with the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 256bit w/2.0GB GDDR5 and Battlefield 3.
The new MSI GT783R came to GAME! -
Amazon.com: SteelSeries Siberia V2 Full-Size USB Gaming Headset with Virtual Surround 7.1 Sound (Black): Electronics $110
Amazon.com: SteelSeries Kinzu Optical Gaming Mouse (Black): Electronics $40
Amazon.com: SteelSeries QcK Heavy Gaming Mouse Pad (Black): Electronics $25
That's $175 in accessory value, really niceAre those offered only for 625 or for 658 as well? I remember when you made an excellent video of comparing MSI GT683R vs. PowerPro R 11:36. I also wonder how does GT783R compare to PowerPro R 12:17 with GTX 580M.
I selected the following setup on your website for Power Pro 12:17:
Just some food for thought, would love to see a new comparison video from you guys in the future. -

MSI was putting up links and taking them down with changing information.
Yesterday was another example of MSI confusion with a press release for the GT685 vanishing a short while after going up and then a GT783 press release appearing.
As people get back to work after the New year holiday I'm sure XOTIC and others will fix any misinformation still listed from old pre-order information.I know GenTech has already updated their site and was 1st to share the information with us.Thanks again Ken.
The GT783 is basicly a GT780 with a GTX580M as is the DX version of the GT780 with a GTX570M.
No matter how you look at it,the 3+ year old Transcend SSD has no place in a 2012 top of the line gaming notebook at a cost of about $265 to owners who buy it not knowing what they're getting.
Does anyone really think they're getting the packpack, headset, mouse and pad for free.
IMO a better SSD would have been much better than the accessories.
I hope the MSI dealers are giving MSI hell for it;it will surely cost them sales.

@ Ellatan & WhatsThePoint
Considering the included accessories you could figure the SSD only adds $25 to the -625 version (not $265 as WTP suggests). Then on top of that you also get Dirt3 with the -625. The gaming bundle only comes with the -625 version. That is why the -658 is $200 less, but they both come with Battlefield 3.
The performance the MSI GT783 and PowerPro R 12:17 with the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 256bit w/2.0GB GDDR5, with otherwise an identical configuration, is the same since they are both the same shell, motherboard and components. The only difference is the skin, and the optional Steelseries keyboard on the PowerPro R 12:17. Note that the Kinzu mouse only comes with the PowerPro R 12:17 with the upgraded keyboard, and the -625 version...it does not come with the -658.
IC Diamond applied to CPU + GPU is FREE when you upgrade your CPU, so the price on the PowerPro R 12:17 is $2,203.84 including the cash discount, while the MSI GT783R-658 is $2,268.98. So the PowerPro R 12:17 is about $65 less plus you get the Kinzu mouse and you only deal with PowerNotebooks.com 24/7 Toll Free Technical Support for technical help and warranty repair where you would be dealing with MSI support with the -658. Also, many people prefer the totally stealth look of the PowerPro R 12:17 with no labeling whatsoever.
I totally agree with WTP...the Transcend SSD was a major disappointment, but as I said earlier it doesn't really add that much to the price. Yes, we are all telling MSI to show the door to whoever made that decision at Headquarters...too bad they never ask us...but then, the always know what is best - right? NOT! It may cost some sales, but over 80% of our buyers of the -625 have upgraded their primary drive anyway. Anybody want a bunch of Transcend SSD's real cheap? -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Donald, there's all different ways of thinking that evaluates worth.
Are you putting a $25 value on the Transcend SSD or too much on the promo items?
When I received my GT780DX the promotional mouse and headset were in the box.I gave them away the next day.
People buying the GT783-625 are stuck with a lackluster antique SSD unless they want to take a beating and have their dealer put in a different current SATA 3 SSD in it's place.
Just simply adding a GTX580M upgrade option for $399 to the existing GT780DX/R lineup would have been a more sensible thing to do in my estimation for everybody.Maybe call it GT780SX.
If I can buy a GT780DX-406 for $1402 cash after a $100 rebate and "could" have a GTX580M upgrade for $399
12GB Ram upgraded to 16GB free
Add BD burner for $140(option)
Put in a 120GB Patriot Wildfire for $184 after rebate
What's the cost....$2125
Yes,$2125 for a branded MSI,not Whitebook, configured same as the GT783-625 but with a much better SSD.
Oh,no promotion mouse,pad,headset and backpack. -
I'm quite excited, my GT783R-625 is out for delivery today!
I ended up downgrading to the WD HDD which I will simply remove and place it in storage in case of disaster. I had a great opportunity to purchase a new Corsair Force Series Gt 240gb for only $250 out of pocket, so I went with that.
Can't say enough good things about the enthusiast reseller community. Both XoticPC and GenTechPC have treated me right.

Also, approaching it the way you are, the PowerPro R 12:17 would be exactly what you are asking for. Built on the same MSI model (MS 1761) as the GT783, but with a different skin, and offers exactly the kind of choice you want. -

Yep, you get it anyway you want it.
Want the whole package straight from MSI? Get the GT series.
Want more choice but still the support? Get the barebone from the shop and kit it out on their page.
Want to strike it out on your own? Get the barebones from a shop and kit it out yourself (like me). -
So, yesterday I received my GT783-625 and spent most of the evening installing my SSD and programs. As those who are familiar with the GT780, I suspect the platform isn't all that different. I was immediately pleased with the aesthetics and layout. The SteelSeries keyboard was incredibly responsive, and defect free. Since I'm playing SW:TOR currently, I loaded the game and checked the detail on max settings. I was averaging about 47 fps at full resolution. I let Battlefield 3 download while I was sleeping, so that will have to wait for tonight. With the SSD in system, the laptop positively screams.
As far as the included bundle goes, I received the promised headset, mouse, mousepad (huge, by the way), backpack and included games BF3 and Dirt 3. It seems my wife has claimed the headset. I personally won't have use for the remainder of the items, but wasn't disappointed in their quality. The backpack is not what I would recommend for the wandering gamer, but will suffice for many.
I apologise for not including detailed statistics. I'm mobile at the moment, but if anyone would like reasonable info I'll be happy to help.

The original specs we had were that it was a SATA III drive in there. We did just get these in an were able to inspect the comptuer and the SSD is the Transcend SATA II drive, we've updated the listing now. The hard drive bay will still support SATA III but the SSD installed from MSI is a SATA II. Sorry if that caused any confusion -
Thanks for clearing this up for us, looks like everybody got the same thing as expected.

Why don't try for dell Alienware M17x r3?? You can get I7 2860QM, GTX580M 2GB, 750GB 7200 + 120Hz Full HD 3D display... Great price only for $23XX.. -
Because some people hate and loath Alienware for no apparent reason.
