I have 16F4 and replaced GTX 870m with GTX 980m almost 2 months ago. I have been clean installing drivers and no problem at all. I am using Prema vBios and normally doesn't over clock for games (BF4) as it is already good enough. To be honest, I didn't see any improvement in the normal performance between MSI, Clevo and Prema only that you can overclock in the prema vbios which basically unlocked clevo vbios.

I haven't upgraded to 353.30 yet and still using 353.06

What the f*ck is optimus?) Is it some kind of feature for battery? Do you really need it? I never play games on battery - I have no reason to do so.

So what the problem to use MSI vBIOS 84.04.22.00.0A without optimus?
I can share unlocked version with no problem, but it is still 84.04.22.00.0A (modified).
I checked private messages with Svet and actually he never mentioned that vBIOS is for private use (it was only for main MB BIOS). So if you successfully flashed to original MSI vBIOS 84.04.22.00.0A and have better performance - I can upload modified one.

I thought that’s what I asked you for (MSI vbios) on the last page. Don’t bother about uploading it. I decided to stick with the prema mod vbios because while it might have dropped your performance, it works fine and scoring high for me. My system is not broken so I’m not going to fix it. I’ll leave things as they are and only mess with it when necessary. Good luck

It ran a 3740qm at around 3.9ghz and a 780M close to 1.5ghz core with over volted vmem.

GT60 and GT70 chassis use optimus at 3rd and 4th gen I7. Non optimus bios files will be for the GT72 and GT80 which manually switch.

What's your current version? Because Svet may have the newer VBIOS available.
Only Nvidia knows what they had done to it.

I know how to google and checked what is Optimus, and found out that it is the feature to automatically redirect power from nvidia and integrated GPU.
But I still don't understand why it is needed.
I manually put 980M to work always.
Why I need to bother gpu switching?
Save couples of watt per hour???
    Nonsense.
    F*ck the fuel economy.)))

That's it, economy. Helps quite a lot when on battery especially with older Nvidia (pre-Maxwell) chips.

Here is the amazon account for the heatsinks
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OUJQVU0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

I am using these for the memory chips on the GPU and not for the GPU core. Plus, their size is a bit bigger than memory chips so I had to put some tape around the memory modules to make sure these heatsinks don't make any contact with any other part of the GPU.

I tried my GTX 980m. I used 250MHz GPU clock and 400 MHz Memory clock. If I go any further than this then during Firestrike benchmark, my system would froze and restart. So, it seems either with default power supply 180W, it is the only allowed limit.

    Hi Everyone,

First of all i big thanks to Talon,Omega and all the others for this post which helped me a lot!

    I have a GT70 0NC14FR that i changed a bit: Intel I7 3840QM
    Crucial M550 512GB
and of course a 980M GTX 8GB from MSI upgrade kit

I followed instructions on first pages and install went well i have now BIOS E1762IMS.51X and 1762EMS1 T.24 for the EC
The card has been detected with vbios 84.04.22.00.0A on GPU-Z with foreceware 353.30

Anyway when i launch games or if i use my computer the card is always desactivated (the intel HD4000 is always used). I have been to Nvidia inspector to force optimus to use the 980M and to the Nvidia settings to force also to use the Nvidia card at all times but no changes unfortunately...I use MSI afterburner and the power led shows me that the Nvidia is used.
I used to try on win 7 64bits and i have installed now win 10 insider preview 64 bits

I don't know if it is a question of firmware as the card is powered and detected or just a driver/ software issue.
Maybe someone experieced it already or we can just add this problem as a feedback for the next persons.

Thx a lot and all the best

    Tato

Yes, and it is clearly written on the MSI BIOS update page as well. I had GT60 2pc with same BIOS, I had to go to 50V and then to 51

Even if GPU-Z is showing 980m but what do you see in the device manager. Is it also 980m?
Did you have to install the drivers by disabling drivers signature?
On you bios page, what is the date listed for the latest BIOS version?

Yes 980m is detected as it is on device manager, steam, nvidia and other programs but not in the games (i take for example Prepar3D, a flight simulator, who could detect different graphic cards, but only intel HD is detected).
It installed first itself via microsoft update who detected the card automatically and installed the basic drivers and then I installed the nvidia ones.
So for the BIOS E1762IMS.51X it says 03/28/2014 and EC 1762EMS1 T.24 04/08/2014. Do you think about a latest bios version?

My first guess would be: as GTX 980m were launched around September 2014, so if the BIOS is around that time then it should've the GPU support coded. As in my case of GT60 2pc, the BIOS was updated in 2015 and I never had any issue using 980m. So, first guess might be to talk to Svet to see if you might need him to tweek your latest BIOS to incorporate the GPU support. If he says you don't need then it'll be a software issue, which if I think of any suggestion, I'll let you know. In the mean time I believe there are many more experienced modders here :) who will definitely chip in.

One guess would be to use Clevo vbios as for 16F3 laptops, (according to omega939 ) MSI vbios was causing trouble for him. Can some confirm that? or you can read the pages from 10 to 20

If your device manager can see 980M that means - it is working, if Nvidia control panel in system tray - drivers also see your 980m and working with it.

So you can just try to go to:
Nvidia control panel -> manage 3d settings -> program settings -> and manually Add your game file (game.exe*) and choose to use "High-performance Nvidia processor".

    That's why i'm a bit curious of my situation:/

    Strange.
1.When windows is starting power button is red?
    2.What is your Windows version?
3.Have you tried different versions of drivers?
On my system 353.30 dont wanna work properly, so I use 353.06.

4.Try to find in BIOS an option named "Primary Display" and change its value from SG to IGFX and back. What is yours by default now?

But be aware that if something go wrong in BIOS you need to open your nb and reset CMOS)))

    1. It depends, sometimes it's red, sometimes it's the intel in use
    2. I've updated to win10 yesterday, but same issues with win7, i thought it would get some improvement
    3. Indeed, but i have some issues for installing on win10 i think to revert to win8 and try new drivers (modded in particular)
    4. I don't have this option, if all modded driver won't work i will ask Svet to get customed BIOS

For my GT70, latest BIOS is from 2013 so not taking 980m for sure. Instead i choose the 1762.51X
Do you think your BIOS would works with my 17 inches?
As you said i'm trying two or three things these days on the laptop and if i doesn't work i will revertto svet.

You should try as others have suggested a Clevo vBIOS on your 980M. This will most likely fix the compatibility issue you're having.

I just upgraded to the Witcher Nvidia drivers (think it's 353.06) and it installed without a modded INF file. Did Nvidia just add the hardware IDs finally?

    Have You mayby changed voltage?
I have used EVGA Precision... but have no idea how far i can go :). Changing voltage lets you go over 250 but... i am afraid to check how far :). I have read someone got clock +500 and memory and mem around +600 using gpu tweak. This person didnt mentioned about voltage change.

What is the max voltage for this card?

    I have interesting problem:

    MSI vBIOS:
On any drivers 353.30 and higher every 3d application says "aplication.exe has stopped working".

I can stress gpu in AIDA64 and it will work, but as soon as I lunch any game or even Nvidia control panel -> Adjust image settings with preview (where you can see nvidia logo spinning around) - it is crashes with same message.

353.06 and 353.12 works perfect though.

Clevo vBIOS: any modded drivers works ok, but Combined Test in Fire Strike has HALF of FPS, so total points is 6600 vs 8800 on MSI vBIOS.

    Any thoughts?

I got the Dell 330 watt adapter and it seems to be working fine with the MSI 16f3, I have been using it for the past 5 hours with no problems. However, when I overclock my GTX 980M GPU, the driver still crashes. Does anyone know what could be causing these driver crashes?

If previous versions worked fine, perhaps something went wrong at this new release?

    Are you using 353.49?
If yes, then try reversing the driver to the previous version such as 353.06 & 353.12.

I’m on 350.12. No matter what driver I try I seem to get the same result. I don't know what else to try. I don't know if it has something to do with my overclocking methods
