I was wondering how yours came packaged and where your seal sticker was. Also did anyones come with the msi box with a blue sealed sticker ontop and then the G series box on the inside. Or did u have a black circle tape on your g series box for the seal. Anyone who bought one please let me know thanx.
-
Mine came in the MSI box with a blue seal tape/sticker on it. Inside this box, the original Gx box with the laptop and its parts in it. I was kinda surprised Amazon didn't put it yet inside one of their own boxes before shipping it to me - maybe because I had ordered 1 day shipping since I have amazon prime.
-
thats how mine came did yours have a black circle sticker on the g series box
-
Yep! There was that on the official box.
-
mine didn't have a black circle tape on mine not on the g series box, hmmm I wonder if its used or a refurb now. Not good. Also If you look at the exit vent above the heatsink is there a red bead looking thing poking through.
-
Used or refurb? On a laptop that came out 1 week ago?
-
ditto. Thats hard to believe.
-
I worked for best buy and I have seen some weird stuff just cause it looks new dosn't mean u are getting new, but it is ironic that I have bought 2 of these already and they both have the heatsink case poking through. If know one else is seeing this problem then bye bye msi for me, cause this is crazy. Anyone else with this red caase poking through where the exit vent for hot air is.

BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
$1099 price tag have anything to do with that?
-
what u mean
-
Pictures please.
-
i tried to take pics before they don't come through clearly and I don't know how to fix it, but this is getting annoying, its like the case or red trim went through the computer and I can see it in the exit vent.
-
I actually dont clearly understand, are you saying red paint has bled onto the heat sink?
-
i posted a pic in the gx640 thread, also I am returning anyways it runs hot and loud.
-
How hot, and at what ambient temperature?

lackofcheese, I'm waiting on you to get a specific "Amazon" Gx640 to see what the heck is up with them...
Everyone else that ordered from everywhere else seem fine? -
Yeah, that's kinda weird. I just checked my tracking # and UPS delivered to amazon my faulty GX640. Now I'm just waiting for them to deposit back my greens, so that I can order another one. But it won't be from amazon, that's for sure.
-
Although I bought my GX640 in Europe (Czech version), mine came in brown box with blue msi tape on it. Inside there was a backpack and a black msi box with round black sticker. And inside that black box was an msi branded gaming mouse.
-
so the ;lesson is don't buy from amazon

at least not for laptops or other large purchases
-
I just got mine from Amazon and I don't see anything wrong with it at all (yet). I think Amazon is no different overall from any other wholesaler.
Since XoticPC only does testing when you customize the laptop, they probably wouldn't be any different for the stock config. -

Throwing an extra little bit in for a wireless card or thermal compound upgrade to get the piece of mind knowing it will work out of the box isn't a bad option
-
Perhaps, but you also have to factor in that their base price is higher. There's also the question of what their shipping price is; Amazon's was only ~$20 for two-(business-)day shipping. Looking at Xotic's site, their price on shipping is $54.00 for UPS ground to my current location, and that's the cheapest option.
I'm definitely quite happy with the low price I paid for this laptop. -

Ok, now that you have had your lappy for an hour or more...
could you tell me if yours had the same "defect" that mdsniper7 had? of the case "melting" or looking like it was pushed down to where the fan is?
-
Nope, I don't see anything of the sort.

I think no matter from whom there will always be bad apples, batches are checked and procedures are certified, etc, but even then in production you will always have small % that will be bad, sometimes there are big messes but usually not. I think amazon is not to be blamed here though, it could been miss handled by delivery or even bad production from msi, etc. I see you both got accepted your returns right away and one of you getting your money back the other even got a $150 gift, i say you guys were treated fair at the least, you didnt had to deal with RMA or waiting longer, i buy a lot of stuff form amazon even my current desktop all out of parts, this is not to say they are perfect, but i dont see the big deal, even newegg had tons on RMAs on the G73JH-X1, and so have other retailers like bestbuy with G73JH-RX05, but it seems all are giving decent service. I personally favor amazon when the price is better and out of not having to deal with crazy cc certifications since i live outside the US, and out of 8 years of not a single issue with mix order or misplaced or lost.

Where did you guys purchase yours?

There's nothing wrong with buying from amazon. What you said is true, there will always be some bad apples. But the nice thing about a small reseller is those bad apples tend to get spotted sooner and never reach the end consumer. Sometimes it's just nice to know there's an extra line of defence in there before a factory defect ends up in your hands and you have to send it back.
To All who bought a GX640 Please answer.
