Track Pad Response

Hey all,
I'm unfamiliar with these gaming type laptops and how they might be configured differently than, say, a work laptop.

I have a MSI GE65 Raider. I did a clean install of Windows 10 after I got it. I've always used a mouse with it. Don't remember using the track pad any, but I'm noticing now that, whereas the pad seems to work like you'd expect with finger gestures, it has no "tap the pad to select" function. Have to click the left button for that. Is that normal for a gaming laptop?

The pad was running the Microsoft drivers from the fresh install, so I downloaded the MSI package and installed those. No difference.

Have you tried just tap to click once? How about twice?

 

Yes. Move the cursor with finger gesture to something selectable, then tap once to select or open. Nothing happens. Tapping twice neither.

 

Did you install the correct touchpad driver for your system? Can you check the device manager to see what happened to the touchpad device before and after the installation?

 

I got the drivers from MSI for my particular laptop. I checked the driver version in device manager before and then after install of the new ones and they had been updated.There were 3 .ini files in the driver package. I installed all 3.

 

So, I didn't set bios defaults or clear the CMOS before or after doing a fresh install of Windows. Think I should have?

 

The single tap & double tap should work without the driver though. Not sure how it would fix such issue.
Check with MSI tech support to see if you can obtain a firmware for your touchpad to resolve the issue.

 

Think I'll try uninstalling the device in Device manager. Shutdown/reboot and scan for hardware changes. That should reacquire the trackpad and then if windows installs drivers for it and it doesn't function right, I'll then update the drivers with the MSI ones again.

Thoughts on that?

 

I figured out what was wrong. There's someone at this keyboard that's been around long enough to have used Windows 95.

When I look for settings, I still to run the Legacy Control Panel that's still included in Windows 10. Still not used to the new Options menu of Windows 10, nor can I remember everything that's in there or where it's at. I keep forgetting you can search for things just by typing what you're looking for in a search box instead wading thru every freakin' thing you can click on.

There's a "tap tp click" box in Options menu under devices> touchpad that wasn't ticked.

It sucks getting old!
