Hi, was wondering if there was a typical amount of time from when MSI announces a new notebook, and when it is actually available to purchase?
(EDIT: I realize there is a similar thread here already, but I am not sure how to delete this - sorry)

My 2 cents: MSI was really quick whith introducing santa Rosa platform. (in Europe anyway)
So based on that I would guess: this month. -
To (partly) answer my question, it seems its already on sale in some (eg. Italy) countries:

All I have to say is short of an XGP port, this laptop goes pretty much all out.
I would have to say dedicated 3450 < XGP port, if I had a choice.
That being said, I'm very impressed that they managed to cram all of that (dedicated card runs in h-xf with onboard, optical drive, hdmi port, webcam etc) into a 12.1" and it's still under 4 pounds.. If it had XGP and stereo sound I would be sold 100%, calling stores to pre-order it.
That being said, it's still high on the list, but the Fujitsu is still #1 imo with the XGP port. The idea that I could have a 3870, possibly even a 4870x2 attached to my 13.3" laptop is just insane, if anyone can beat Fujitsu by putting the XGP port on a 12.1" I will pay the price. -
Yeah XGP would be nice! Are Fujitsu actually putting models out soon with XGP?? Ie. by late August/ Early September?

my opinion is that this lappie is the best ever in its category and actually in many categories combined.will buy it for sure!!!!

no sign of these in the UK yet...................

www.hoh.de 699 euros + 30 euros shipping to Europe!!!

is it for sale in the US yet?
-

I guess they really don't like US money nowadays :/ . Can't really say I blame them, its good business. It's a shame though, because they're about to lose my money since I can't buy it anywhere.
I've been waiting since mid june, and now that there monetvina's out, and small systems w/ integrated graphics will be available from a lot of brand name vendors come august 5th, I don't think I'll wait any longer. -

I meant I'm looking at other options than MSI.
I wanted a small, cool running and quiet laptop with good open source support, and I prefer AMD and ATI. The PR-211 would seem to fit the bill (not sure about the 'cool running' and 'quiet' part, but as long as the fan isn't a jet engine and I can keep it on my lap while compiling, I'd be fine).
It's still a nice looking laptop, but it's taken soo long to become available here in the US that I personally can't wait much longer, and the competition has become more compelling. -

C'mon PX200!
Anyone know of any other 12" notebooks with an HD 3450?
edit: I can find almost no mention of the PX200 via Google. Did it just appear on MSI's site in the last hour or something? http://asia.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1546&maincat_no=135 -

no uk news yet................?
quick question: it makes a big thing about the magnesium chassis, does this include the lid too? will i be able to trust it not to warp and crack if i sling it in my rucksack with just a neoprene cover? -
i'm now waiting for the PX210 to become available here in the Netherlands. To get an idea on how it would be like, i had a look at the PR210 at a store. From what i understood the PX210 will be little different, but not much, and the PR210 feels just as solid as my S270, so i guess the PX210 will be as well. -
i just wish MSI would do something useful and start distributing it in the UK.
it has become a daily ritual to google search the PR211/PX210 to see if it has been picked up by a UK etailer.
what the hell are they doing? -
Well the PR211 is available in Germany, but according to the Notebookjournal review it's not something to get really excited about.

news at last:
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9984&Itemid=1
it is unclear whether from the article whether this is a UK launch or a general launch however............
still, good news. -
Well, i have a PX211 at last. Got it from germany and installed an US keyboard in it (their all the same for 12"). Works great and i really love this laptop. When your just surfing on the web or writing a doc it lasts about 4,5 hours on the bat!. Also the 3D perf is better than i expected.
I first wanted to order a PX211 from the US or the UK, but MSI UK told me their not going to sell it in this countries. MSI NL didn't know when it would be available in NL but they did know it wasn't going to be soon (that was in dec 2008). So me not wanting to wait ordered one from germany and ordered an black keyboard from MSI NL. The part number for the keyboard is: S1N-1UUS231-C54. Switching the keyboards is extremely simple: just flip of the four small metal covers above the keyboard and you can lift it out.
As for the Vista OS: you can select English instead of German.
Also, ubuntu works quite well on it.
Good Luck! -
Thanks ariehorst. What are your Vista experience index numbers for overall, cpu, vista graphics, and gaming graphics. Also 3dmark06?
-
Hi,
sorry for my late reply. My experience with Vista actually isn't that bad. Everything works nice and smoothly and i haven't had any troubly with running any program so far. The only dissapointing thing in vista is that they still didn't get hibernate right. Sometimes when putting the laptop in hibernate it just gives a black screen but it never turns of. This is quickly recognized by the fact that in that case the hard drive isn't excessively used. Too bad also that they don't show a progress kind of thing when going to hibernate. I'm running SP2 beta, but the hibernate problem isn't fixed in this SP, and probably never will.
As for 3DMark06:
SM2.0 Score : 1168
HDR/SM3.0 Score : 1618
CPU Score : 1443
3DMarks : 3501
Compared with my Desktop PC (Sempron 2800+, DDR400, GF6800GT)
SM2.0 Score : 1224
HDR/SM3.0 Score : 1184
CPU Score : 600
3DMark : 2612 -
I recently bought the PR211 in Japan.
My previous purchaze was Asus n10j and like many I am looking to find notebook which can play WoW/light gaming at good framerate with some eye candies.
With a battery of 2hours gaming.
I am really impressed by the PR211 so far. It's smaller and lighter than Macbook and even if it's not as powerfull as Nvidia 9400m + C2duo, the battery last a lot longer.
Playing Wow Wotlk with a lot of addons is no problem. I have vsync+many options and a res of 1280 which is not bad. Only in crowded city(in latest expansion) my FPS go down fo 20 which is still playable. In classic Wow it's 40 fps always. Instance runs a lot better (tryed Mana tomb, Sekkreth halls etc.).
I am using Windows XP (with vista driver). Only the light function is not working, it's always on max light. But still I can surf the net during 3/4 hours or play 1h40/2h.
Battery on Macbook was 45mn/1hour with 70% light.
This is really more powerful than Asus n10j and below Macbook with 9400m.
Don't get me wrong I love Asus n10j, but it's ok for grind and light gaming, PR211 allows you to enjoy the game.
And I own a very powerfull desktop system with WC CrossfireX H4870x2 + Dell 30inch so I can compare. PR211 is of course not as strong, but games looks great.
Hope it helps people looking for good small notebook for gaming. I was looking for this info everywhere...
Next on my list is HP DV2.... -
Hi Natadiem,
i have a question for you: there's supposed to be a TV Tuner in the PX211/PX210, and there is a small coax plug on the right side of my laptop. The TV Tuner drivers are(i believe) preinstalled in Vista however, no TV Tuner appl can find the device. Also when i try to run the driver installers from the website it says it can't find any TV Tuner. Do you have these problems as well? Or did it just work with you?
Arie
When will PX210/PR211 actually be for sale
