As the topic states, where can I find these barebones?
I went to msicomputer.com and they have the products listed, but don't provide of link of where I can actually purchase one of these.
Also, how reliable are these notebooks?
I'm kind of wondering about the 15.4 inch notebook with a full size keyboard...
Anybody ever experienced a 15.4 inch notebook with full size keyboard?
Plan on purchasing a new notebook around end of June, early July.

I am also awaiting info on the MSI MS-163A.
I wonder what Fire wire chipset they will use? -
PM Noclue4uhere
Meh.... I don't like the keyboard layouts =[
Also... full keyboard and numeric key pad on a 15.4" model??? Eh, no thank you.
I just thought I'd ask anyways though... -
So is there any more info on the MS-163A/GX600?
-
The GX600 and GX700 are identical - so far the speaker gx600=2xStereo, GX700=4.1Speaker and the both smallest Modells dont have a Headset (in DE) and 14ms TFT - the 4-Big Modells 8ms.
I read, that MSI the GX600 show at the Gamers Convention on 23.-26.8. in Leipzig ;(( -
Hello,
Does anyone have a 1719? I cant seem to find reviews of it.
I do have some questions:
- how is the heat dissapation?
- how does it perform?
- how is the built?
- how is it overall?
Thnx. -
I just ordered an MS-1719 from RK Computers. I'll post a review when I receive it.
-
Awesome madcityscott.
Ill be looking forward to it. -
I received the MS-1719 yesterday and I've had a little time to play around with it. First impressions:
- nice, bright screen
- decently built, doesn't seem cheap
- pretty quiet fans (quieter than my Dell Inspiron 8300 anyway)
- seems to be a little hot around the right wrist rest
- good speakers
- not a flashy design, but I'm 42 years old and don't care
I'm still trying to get benchmarks (I've never done it before). CPUz seems to flake out when I run it--I have to totally unplug the machine and pull the battery to power down. Hopefully a more detailed review to come soon. -
Just pulled the trigger at about 11:30 PM - 08/13/07 and ordered a CyberPowerPC X7-7700, expected ship date 08/29/07 (ARRRGGGHHH!).
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/NTBKX77700.asp
I have been building my own desktop PC's since 1998 but this is my first foray into the notebook PC world. I will post my benchmarks once I have received the laptop and get the hole in my wallet repaired. -
Can we please get some reviews?
That Cyberpower doesn't look half that bad at all!
But am I bit concerned about the performance.
I mean, yea I just bought an HP laptop... but that doesn't mean I can't build me a laptopAfter all, I've built a lot of computers and am still anxious to actually build my own laptop
-
For the record, I have an MS-1719 (same as GX700), with T7500 (2.2MHz), 2 MB memory, and the nVidia 8600M GT with 512MB memory.
Here are some benchmark numbers:
Super Pi: 52s (2M)
WPrime: 59.594 (32M)
PCMark05: 5137
3DMark05: 6215
3DMark06: 3108
Other than Super Pi, these results seem much less than stunning. I'm running XP Pro, could that have something to do with it?
I haven't tried playing any games yet, other than the demo version of Lost Planet (which seems to run OK). -

3DMark05: 5743
3DMark06: 2966 -
Thanks for the numbers guys!
I have Vista Ultimate (32 bit) on the machine I ordered but opted for 4GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM HDD. I have traditionally been an AMD man but couldn't find any stateside retailers selling the MSI's in a 17" model with the AMD Turion. I was going to get a HP dv9000z at half the cost of the X7-7700 I got from CyberPowerPC with the Turion onboard but couldn't bring myself to order or machine with crippled graphics capabilities. The only option they offered for the graphics on that machine was the nVidia GeForce Go 6150. I wasn't keen on running Vista with integrated graphics.
I'll post marks after I get my machine but with an estimated ship date of 08/29/07 it will be the 30th or 31st before I have it in hand. -
I got an HP dv6408nr that has an AMD Turion X2 TL-56 @ 1.8 GHz, 1 GB of DDR2, 160 GB SATA 150 HD @ 5400 RPM, and a integrated NVIDIA 6150 with 128 MB VRAM.
Can run CS:S, UT2K4, Tomb Raider: Annivesary, and BF2142... at lowest settings, but still playable -
The reason I ask is I thought the 1719 was Santa Rosa based. The 7700 apparently is not. (notice that the n based wireless is not available as an option - which it should be if its santa rosa). I emailed Cyberpower and asked them, and was told the MSI 1719 was not santa rosa. So im confused, it seems they are either wrong, and dont know it, or MSI made non santa rosa based 1719s.
Any help? -

The original had pre-installed turbo memory and a glossy lid finish.
The current model does not have pre-installed turbo memory (but is available as an option) and has a glossy finish on the keyboard deck area and on the lid.
They are absolutly wrong, this model has the 965 chipset. If it did not the T7100, 7300, 7500, 7700 would not be compatible. -
I haven't delved into the world of notebooks enough to determine what is what based on website ads. It's also been my experience that some retailers aren't always knowledgeable regarding the things they sell.
(But it does appear that present company may consider itself excluded from my stereotype!)
I guess I'll have to wait and see what I have actually purchased. When I do get my laptop, I'll slap CPU-Z on it and give whatever details the members of this forum may want.
Thanks to everyone for helping me push the boundaries of my PC knowledge! Learning new stuff is always a good thing, even for us old dogs. -
The 3DMark06 score of 3108 is very good as well. I expected it to be a tad below 3k.
I think I made a good purchase
And thanx for the info. -
How about some reviews fellas?
-
Is there any more info on the 163A/GX600?
-
-
Did you try Bioshock or the demo?
How about some pics? The waiting is killing me
Edit: I mean pics of the laptop, not Bioshock -
Yay!!
I got it yesterday!
Some unknown usb hardware driver cant be installed or so ... hmm..
The top of it is very shiny, almost too shiny, gets all my fingerprints
But most of it looks very cool! -
My lovely and talented spouse has just called me at work to inform me that the laptop has arrived. Once I finish mowing the yard after work (Arrgh!) I will open the box and begin to delve into the MS-1719. I will post benchmarks and hardware particulars once I get it up and running and have the applicable software installed and running.
Have a great day everyone! I am! -
How about some pics and a review on those new MSI laptpos?
-
Where to start. The laptop was delivered on time. Good. Powered it up. We have POST and ahh, yes, there is the OS coming up. Good. Opps, we get an error stating that the Windows installation failed, click OK to begin installation. OK, click. Boot. Same error. Put in the recovery DVD to attempt to complete the install. No good. Same error. Call CyberPower's 24/7 tech support. 8 rings, message that all reps are busy and dumped straight into voice mail. OK, leave a message with phone number (twice, slowly) for call back. No call back comes. (Over 24 hrs now, still no response) Get tired of waiting so put in the recovery DVD, reformat the drive, find that only 186GB of the 200GB drive gets recognized. Reinstall the OS from scratch, then install all the drivers. Get everything up and running. Now we're good.
First impressions. No real hot spots on the deck or underneath to speak of but I haven't taxed it too hard so far. I like the size and keyboard arrangement plus the full numberpad on the righthand side. The display looks crisp and bright without any tweaking yet completed. I installed PCWizard2007 so if there is anything you want to know about the processor or any other component just let me know. In response to a previous question the FireWire is listed as "Integrated OHCI IEEE 1394 Host Controller".
I'm currently downloading 3DMark06 so I won't have any numbers for you until tomorrow. Assuming I can get 3DMark06 up and running. I haven't gotten my new license for Office 2003 yet and Excel2003 was listed on the system requirements. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks for listening! I'll get more information out as quickly as my day to day life will allow.

MSI just released another version of the MS-1719:
WUXGA-1920 X 1200 Resolution............... -
By the way, Bioshock runs great on this system (but I haven't played it on anything else for comparison).
Question: Would bumping up my RAM from 2GB to 3 or 4 GB significantly improve system performance?
--Scott -
going from 2-3gb should show a pretty good increase.. not so much going from 3-4gb
-
rob sent you a pm.. get back with me please. thanks
-
madcityscott, I plan to order a GX600 or GX700 however I want to use it to play HDDVD (Xbox HD drive) and I need HDCP (otherwise PowerDVD wil not pay HDDVD titles
http://www.cyberlink.com/english/support/bdhd_support/diagnosis.jsp
could you try BD/HD advisor free utilty to check if the MSI GX 8600GT is HDCP enabled?
Could be interesting info for many people. -

First, thank you very much for helping me.
Second, there is some hope since the 8600GT card shows a green dot
However I forgot one thing : the test must be done with a HDCP compatible monitor hooked to the HDMI port. When this is done if the "Video connection type" indicator (dot) is green, all is well, otherwise it means that the HDMI output is not HDCP capable
If you have a HDCP monitor, or HDCP capable TV with HDMI port, then you can use BD HD advisor to check the HDMI port HDCP compliance.
The only two red dots you have is lack of HD drive, its understandable, and the software, since PowerDVD 7.0.x is not HD compatible, only 7.3 is working. -
