Hi there
I was wondering if somebody knows where I can buy this back cover for my GT627 (Any MS-1651 based laptop is the same if I'm not mistaken)
![]()
I'd like to modify it, but before starting the mod, I'd like to get a spare one, just in case![]()
I've found this store, where they sell a lot of parts for these laptops, but not the cover I'm looking for...![]()
Thanks!

Just ask any barebones resellers. The item isn't very popular so most sites won't list it in inventory but can order it for you.

Is there any barebone reseller in Europe?

Hey nitrous, I have an entire bottom chassis and a cover that I modded for better airflow. If you want it it's yours, just pay for shipping. Let me know if you are interested and I'll take a couple of pics.
EDIT: I also have a spare heatsink for the GX640 and a spare keyboard with a broken F11 key. If you want, you can have those too. I have too much crap lying around and gotta get rid of it. -

Do you happen to have a cover for the GX620/GT627?
-
Sounds great [email protected], I'll send you an MP

I actually broke one of the little plastic clips for the back cover but it's near where one of the screws go so it shouldn't be that bad. As you can see I cut out an area where I epoxied a metal mesh screen into place. You should get much cooler gpu temps this way. Also, the keyboard has a bad F12 key (not F11). It works and stays in place but is off center because one of the little plastic clips under the key broke. Anyway, like I said, cover the postage and I'll be happy to send this to you.

Nice job kosti, what kind of gpu temps were u getting with that back cover. If you ever get another one I'd be interested in buying it.

I actually never tested it because no matter how hard I tried I could not get it to fit properly on the GX640 due to the size of the heatsink. It did fit on my GX630 with the 9600m GT so nitrous should have no problem on his 9800 because I am pretty sure they use the same heatsink (or at least similar in size). If you look closely, I grinded down some of the plastic to get it to fit but it still needed about 1-2mm more clearance for the 640, then I ended up breaking one of the plastic clips so I gave up and just left the stock one on.
EDIT: Just in case you guys are looking for a spare cover. The cover I got was from an older MSI barebones (the GX620 series I believe), and while the dimensions are the same as the GX640, the bottom of the cover is very different and had a bunch of plastic shims in different locations that will prevent it from fitting the 640 without cutting them or grinding them down. Just be aware of that if you find one on ebay or something. -
Thanks so much for the pictures and explanations dude
However my idea was to drill some holes where you cut that piece off, but I still can make good use of it. Do you have any idea about the shipping cost? It would be to Italy. I'm only interested in the bottom parts, the keyboard is not necessary.
Cheers, I really appreciate your help -

I got an extra back cover from Gentech way back when and modded it. Didn't seen that great of results though.
I'll take a pic sometime.
Now I'm looking for a better laptop cooler. -
according to usps.com, it will be around $20 for first class international mail.

Well, I really appreciate your help and the fact that you're offering those spare parts paying just the shipping, but for now I'll skip it, I need to buy too much stuff for Christmas
Where can I get a back cover?
