Finally got my GE62VR, and I was wondering that if I install the bloatware-free version of Windows 10, will it void my warranty?

Also what MSI bloatware should I be deleting (while researching I'm mostly seeing things about the Killer app)? Any tips before I start deleting? Thanks a bunch!

Norton Security antivirus is one of them, Killer Control Center aswell (you can use drivers only version from killer networking website), Magix applications (if you have any), winzip and microsoft office 365 if you don't need them.

Generally you won't notice much difference with a clean install if you're going to reinstall MSI utilities like TrueColor, Dragon Center, SCM (which is a must becuase you lose some functionalities without it) and etc.. instead if you want to run a version of windows with telemetry stuff disabled by default then go ahead and install Phoenix's version.

Thank God - I was really worried that it would void my warranty! Once I have free time I'll do the clean install.

As for the Killer Control Center, I heard that I had to download the standard driver first before downloading it - so I'll do just that.

    Thanks by the way!

Congrats on your new purchase! Are you going to upgrade the OS to Fall Creators Update? Make sure to update to the newest MSI utilities as well.

Thanks! If you don't mind me asking, I (had the latest) updated my OS but I can't check if it's the Fall Creators Update (It's with my sister right now).

I was planning on doing the clean install once I get it back, should I update it afterwards?

I'm assuming that you meant I update it afterwards. Sorry if I'm bothering you or anything.

You can make recovery ISO files first if you want to revert back to factory defaults in case you don't like the upgrade.
It doesn't come with Fall Creators Update since it carries the image made from earlier time.
You can do a clean install, then install the latest version of utilities.

Noted. Thanks for clearing that up, although I'll look into the Fall Creators update and check if it's worth keeping/updating into.

Warranty is only void with the factory installed OS and software. If you remove the factory OS and software MSI will void your warranty because any fault may be caused by not using factory MSI recommended software.
There is a EEPROM embedded into the BIOS chip which records if the laptop is booted without the factory OS and flag the laptop as "VOID" if it detects non factory software used.

Like with NVIDIA Tegra Note Tablet, if you open the bootloder, the tablet will be flagged as "VOID" for the rest of it's life.

I'm just screwing around, the smallest chance to void warranty with software if you reflash the BIOS or vBIOS to an unofficial modded one, but even then I have never heard of a manufacturer actually voiding warranty.
Don't forget to make a backup of your factory OS, you never know when it can come in handy. Win10 key is stored with a hardware key on the MS server so when you do a clean install, you do not need to enter a cd key (only if you install the same version of OS, for example if you got HOME from MSI, you need to install a clean Win 10 Home, Home hardware key will not activate a clean Win 10 Pro)

Wait was that a joke, or am I just slow?

Either way, I'll make sure to take note of this. Haven't been able to mess with my own laptop for years so this is gonna get exciting.

Fall Creator Update is like a major service pack update from the past so it's basically a cumulative of fixes and enhancement from the past which had been slipstreamed by Microsoft.

    Hey. I r not a bloat.

The Killer Control Center can be very useful for controlling bandwidth on your machine. It's gamer-centric, but things like videos and browsing also get priority over things like bulk file downloads like Windows Update or Steam Updates, so that those relatively small, but latency-sensitive applications get first priority over the bandwidth hogs.

As far as resource usage, the latest Killer Control Center sits well under 200 Mb of RAM and generally shows up as 0% CPU, even when using Doubleshot Pro, so it's definitely not bloat.

If you have any questions about the Killer Control Center, I would be happy to answer them here, or you can contact me directly at http://www.killernetworking.com/about/contact

Edit: That said, no, uninstalling the Killer Control Center will not void your warranty. That would be a really weird warranty.

Is this the link for drivers only (without killer control panel / bandwidth control)? -> https://www.killernetworking.com/driver-downloads/category/other-downloads

Some of us don't have a pair of killer wlan+lan or just don't prefer to use the control panel at all.

Yes, that's the one. You can either download Killer Drivers Installation exe or the INF package to manually update using device manager.

I apologize for replying late, didn't get the alert for the reply on time.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. I'll make sure to "mess" with the application first before trying to uninstall it.

As for the warranty part, I was mostly referring to the "if I install the bloat-free Windows 10" scenario haha
