I want to know if the core 2 duo series not centrino version just the regular would work on the newer msi barebones.
-
The names "Core 2 Duo" and "Centrino" are just brand names and are not indicative of the exact hardware. What barebone units are you looking at?
-
The msi 1651.
-
If you take a look at this list, all Socket P chips including the front side bus of 667MHz, 800MHz and 1066MHz will work since the MSI 1651 appears to be on the Montevina platform.
-
I haven't seen a single montevina laptop use the older t7xxx cpu's so I wouldn't try it. You should be a able to find a low end montevina cpu for similar prices.
-
No notebook maker would take a new platform and put in an old CPU on it. With that said, I'd have to agree that grabbing the newest 1066MHz models is the best idea since they are similarly priced to the older model but are generally a bit faster and maybe even cooler and less power hungry.

This model supports only 45nm dual core cpu's, anything from santa rosa refresh (T8100,etc) to present will work. -
Thanks for clearing that up.
are msi mtherboards backward compatible with core 2 duo series?
