I tried a few different quads not too long ago and none of them would boot at all in the GX620/1651. The MS-1651 refresh (due out shortly) supports the quad cpu's. -
yeah same for me but i did see someone saying it worked they were out of china. ill see if i can find the thread again i had to translate it with google translate but they even showed pics and a cpuz screenshot etc... unless maybe a pre release new 1651 build??

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
could be, remember in different markets these notebooks have different model names so its possible.
-
okay spoke with the guy and he said it works he is using a 1.0z bios on the gx620? i see it on some china based sites but i have not been able to download it from anywhere. anyone able to locate this?? he said with the 1.0z they are supposed to work? all i see on msi web site is 1.0v so far in the usa
-
And how are his temps?
-
im waiting for him to tell me but he said his system works and runs fine with no issues he uses it every day. so i assume its fine... im still trying to find the 1.0z though then i can test it and see
-
Ask him to send you the bios file
.
-
he doesnt have it the place he bought his system installed it for him.. but if i search for it i can find it in a few places but it seems they are all from china
-
Well what if they are? The bios should be in english right?
-
yeah but im not sure if there is any physical difference between the asian released 620 and the usa one know what i mean
-
If they are still ms-1651 there shouldn't be a problem. I could always try one and see how that goes if you can provide a link.
-
if i can get a valid link i would try it myself trust me... im looking for a downloadable one.. for some reason i cant find it on the china msi site i mean the bios downloads
-
1.0z is NOW UP ON MSI USA SITE.... i cant check it right now since im working with my system and i cant swap the cpu right now but if anyone else wants to test it otherwise ill be testing it tomm!!!

ill be trying this this weekend
-
Good luck!
-
thanks and man i hope this works. well see if the guy is lying or not and if his screens he showed me were shopped lol.. i did have another supplier i deal with in china tell me the same thing though about the 1.0z...
-
so whats the news on this?
-
didnt get my q9200 shipped in yet which sucks.... i actually bought one from another seller because my normal source was out of them and they must have shipped it ground when i asked for 2 day air... arghhhhhhh i sold my 2 last quads right before i heard about this and never had them here to try it out.. but i have a q9200 coming on its way.. sorry for the delay..
-
just got tracking info so i know its coming ill for sure promise to post when i test it
-
arghhh im dying to try this..
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Good luck! Can't wait to hear how it works out.
-
chips are here!! this weekend will be the testing time i have a q9100, q9200, and qx9300 to test out
-
Why did you buy 3 different chips?
-
i always buy chips to resell.. lol. i buy directly from resellers in china
-
does not work. im not sure why the guy from china was all over the place saying it does but the system does not post at all with the q9100 or q9200.. sucks

That is exactly the same result I had here, I tried all three quads in the MS-1651 (GX620) when you said someone got them working and none would post at all.
The MS-1651 refresh (GT628) does work with all three quads perfectly.
Maybe your guy in china has the refresh model? -
Prehaps grabbing a copy of the refreshed models bios may work with the older model?
-

Both use the same bios -
The cores should all happily be posting then i guess, would be strange if not.
-
Are you using the 120w power brick?

The new model has a different revision system-board with hardware support for the Quad Core. The GX620 does not have hardware support for this CPU. -
Ahh thats a shame, although quite smart in the marketing game i guess.
-
Very true, so a Quad Core will probably never work in the older 1651 models. Thanks Rob for all you help. +rep
-
yes i even tried a bigger than 120 psu. does not post..
-
a P8400 is already running pretty hot at 50c idle:d. I can't image someone put a quad core in this little monster lolz.
-
Hehe, theres always undervolting
-
Yeah, undervolt =) my P8400 without turbo doesnt go over 55 C with orthos, and with turbo doesnt go over 63 C, ambient temp is around 26 C.
And theres a way to get around the RMClock's problem with half multipliers, so theres no 133 MHz cut. -
So the most powerful CPU that will work with the rev01 ms1651 is the x9100... I guess I can live with that but I would be much happier if I could get my hands on a hd4670....
-
you and me both or the 4850
gx620 with quad core??
