    (if you've seen this emssage in tech bargain already I'm sorry;
I accidentally put it there, so I moved it here)
    hi guys
wow, I'm getting so much help from this forum.
thx to everyone who helped until now!

I finally decided to get MSI 1029 barebone and build my laptop
I'm not quite sure what components I should add to this one tho (newb here but my roommate is gonna help building it so no worries building). If you could help me that would be great

My max budget is around 1150... and I found a barebone that's around 770 including shipping... so that allows me to spend about 380 for following components (hopefully it's enough)

    I would like to have

CPU : turion 64 MT (no ML plz)
(which one is the best for its price?)
(between 30 and 34, is there a physically noticable
    difference in speed?)
    RAM : 1gb ram (1 stick preferred)
(whatever that's compatible and good for price)
HDD : 60 gb 5400 rpm at least
(same as ram here, I wouldn't mind larger HDD with
faster speed if there's a good deal for this)

those are the only stuff I would have to purchase separtely right? please, let me know if there's a good deal for those stuff (would be great if you also let me konw the price and where you found it)

oh, also I welcome any suggestion on different laptops that might function better than above setting for similar price

    Thank you for any help.

    (from coriolis)
    "Lets see, $175 for the MT processor(1.8), $90 for 1gb stick, then with $100~left, a 60gb 5400rpm costs about $90.

I'm not sure, but is a wireless card or optical drive included with the barebones?"

    I'm not quite sure.
    Optical Drive Dual-Layer DVD Burner
LAN/Modem Built-in 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN and modem Module
Wireless LAN 802.11b/g WLAN + Bluetooth Optional
    that's what it says.
it seems like LAN/Modem is built in for sure tho

Neither WiFi or Bluetooth are provided with the barebones. If you want both you'll have to buy MSI's combo mini PCI-module. If you want only WiFi, you have many choices.

noob question but what's the advantage of getting the bluetooth version? and what would be a good choice if I only want the WiFi?

Bluetooth is used for low-bandwidth, short-range devices like cell phones, cell phone headsets, mice, keyboards, etc. Given how inexpensive MSI's WiFi/Bluetooth combo card is I'd get one. Last I checked Newegg carries them, for starters.

Buy the fastest Turion MT that's still within your budget. It sounds like you've got the right idea. 1GB RAM (single stick) and a 60GB 5400RPM HD are good minimums. A 7200RPM drive would give you better access times but about the same throughput and more noise for much more money. (Nice if you have the money though.)
