    hey, the gx640 came today.

i plugged in and turned it on, everything came up fine, except for a warning popped up. I don't remember what the warning said. I set some basic functions (account name and password, desktop background) and installed avast antivirus (free version). then i shut down to go to work, and the laptop installed 17 updates. I started it up again before i left cause i had more time. the screen said "preparing to configure windows. Do not turn off your computer" it was on for 40 minutes before i had t go to work. i left it how it was.

I came home and my login screen was up, so i logged in. the same warning came up (wish i freaking remember what it said, something about something not being found) and it ran really slow, and the wifi wouldn't connect this time. so i decided to restart. again when in started it went to the "preparing to configure windows" screen. it's now been there for about two and a half hours.... what do i do???

    please help me...

    really slow logging in.

System Error: the program can't start because ArcCon.dll is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

    thats the error.

I would restore it from the recovery partition. You haven't lost much time and you'll know if you can recover when you really need it. If it doesn't, RMA it.

There is a recovery partition on the HD. Restores back to factory settings. You can invoke when you 1st start. But you're working so no need.

Get Steam, for a start. You might want the Rockstar collection at 50% off; I'm still mulling over it since I'm not a huge fan but the price is good.

How do you use it? Also, does this mean I don't need to bother burning a recovery disk?

in the boot options(advanced), you choose system recovery options e or something like that...
    and recover from that partition...
no, you dont need a recovery disk... :)

Strictly speaking, I guess the recovery disk would still help in the case of hard drive failure.

MSI provides a tool for burning a recovery disk that comes preinstalled on your computer. I haven't used it yet because I didn't have a spare DVD lying around, though I do intend to.

Exactly. There are icons on your desktop to create the backup DVD's You'll need two, maybe more. Mine failed while creating the 1st disk. Worked ok the 2nd time. :)

    1. I'd recomend CCleaner :)
It cleans your registry of false entries..
Something might still be making reference to arccon.dll...

    If that fails,

    2. uninstall everything ArcSoft related (delete folders, and registry entries)...

    Then try reinstalling it.

    Try CCleaner 1st...
    it cleans your registry :D
Else i think you can download ArcSoft software from its website (its a trial anyway, right?)
