I just got my ms-1651 from avadirect and when I start it up to try to install windows xp it keeps giving me the bsod 7B or 7E error. Any suggestions on what to do? I really hope I dont have to return it because I'm already in college and it's so much hassle.

Did you disable AHCI mode in the bios? -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
At what stage/step during the install does it bsod?
-
when I'm in the blue screen for windows setup and after all the stuff goes by on the bottom of the screen and it says windows is starting setup it BSOD. How do i disable AHCI?

Press the DEL key when you see the first boot screen (the notebook boot screen). Go to the advanced tab, then tab down to AHCI. Change it to ide or disabled, whatever the choice may be. Go to exit and make sure you save and exit. -
tried it got the 7B error, could it be my xp cd error? i have 2 different ones and one of them gives me a 7b and the other 7e

What version is your XP disk? SP1, SP2, SP3? -
sp1 and sp3

SP3 should work fine if you have disabled AHCI.
Do you have a Genuine disk or a copy? Copies can cause install problems. Are you loading any drivers during setup at F6? -
yes theyre both genuine. the sp1 i got with a dell i ordered and the sp3 i bought.

Not sure what else is going on, SP3 with AHCI disabled should install without any problems. The only other thing is maybe check the memory, try 1 stick at a time. -
should the sp1 be fine as well or could there be problems with the sp1?

Honestly I have never tried an SP1 CD on this chassis, it should work also.
Make sure when you disabled the AHCI that you did save the changes when you exited. -
ok yup it's working now! I guess i didn't save. lol Thanks for all the help rob! Saved me a bunch of trouble

Glad I could help. If you have any other problems just PM me. -
I can't get my audio to work. What driver would you recommend? I think I have realtek alc888 as my sound card
-
the realtek xp driver version 2.23 is the last one to work right in win xp. you also could have simply slipstreamed the intel matrix driver into a winxp disc and left ahci on in the bios works fine that way

tried that link and installed but doesn't seem to work for me. maybe I should try a older version?

Browse the contents of your driver disk. There should be XP, and Vista folders. I am pretty sure there is a realtek driver in the XP folder then run setup.
If it is not in the XP folder use the one in the vista folder.
Did the install quit or did you get an error message? -
the install completed, I restarted but I'm still not getting sound

Make sure you have SP3 installed and all the windows updates. -
