So, I'm looking to upgrade my msi gt70 0nc -008us with a 680m .It comes stock with the 670M. I would like to know if i would have to mod or buy a heatsink .Also what 680m brand is the most friendly the dell or the clevo. Any would be much appreciated.

Doesn't MSI produce their own 680m? You may or may not require a vBIOS mod if you [must] go with a Dell or Clevo card.

Not sure on the heatsink though. If they're both MXM III standard I would think the heat sink doesn't need modding, but I'm not certain.
