That brushed aluminium finish on the body of the lappy also has the same prob.
Even the finish of the panel below the keyboard and around the touchpad gets bad as the matte finish is turning into glossy.
I Hope it is Oil Buildup.

Even cleaning with alcohol it's still worn in the center and I only used the touchpad the ONE DAY before I picked up a wireless mouse for it.

Do you mean that the brushed aluminium is getting glossy?

I have not experienced this on my gt627. I had it for about 10 days and have not experienced the glossy on the body.

Brushed aluminum is a complete fingerprint magnet, I wash my hands before I use my laptop and it remains fingerprint free. However some times it still gets all finger printy, which I what I guess u mean by glossy it kinda gets all like yea. But just clean it, I use alcohol-free LCD screen cleaner and it works great.

I used my touch pad all day yesterday and its perfectly fine, however I have a GT735 bare bones build, but that shouldn't make a difference, same body.

How is this worn look? Is it just a darker/greasy looking mark in the middle, I got that once and It cleaned off easily with alcohol free based LCD cleaner. Or is yours actually warn down?

Ya i mean fingerprint and even if ur wrist gets little moist during long gaming sessions it shows on the panel.
It is only visible at an angle otherwise frm distance it still looks new.

Do you mean the lcd cleaner given with the lappy by MSI?

I'm somewhat sad to say this issue is what prevented me from replacing my MSI with another MSI. While I'd be using the mouse with it a lot, I don't want to worry about the touchpad looking glossy from oils, or wearing out.

No, first of all I don't know if this problem is just with your MSI laptops, because Im not experiance and I have the GT735 Barebones which is rebranded.

However, yes I do get tons of tiny darker spots or lil spots that show on the panel. The cover, the touchpad. If your hands have any oil or are more warm or anything it will make these spots.

I use Monster Alcohol-Free LCD screen cleaner. It works fantastic, laptop looks flawless after I wipe it down quickly with the monster cloth and its cleaner. I use this stuff everywhere, TV's, Laptops, Keyboard, Laptop Shell, Wacom Tablet, ive even used it on my glasses. And its great.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812155532

^^ Thats exactly the product, ive bought one a while ago, been using the same bottle/cloth for nearly 2 years. Still 2/5s of the stuff still left. And the cloth has a very clingy type feel, its like grabs onto things, and even if you run it through the wash it still possess's that clingyness.

I've never had or used a touchpad that didn't wear down from use.
I recommend an "anti-glare" screen protector. They are textured which provides less friction with your finger.

I don't think it wearing down in general is a problem, so much as the rate at which it's doing it.

My dad is a touchpad user, I'm a Trackpoint user. He's had my old T60 for a year, and the touchpad still looks brand new.

I've got a 6 month old NC10 that I use nothing but the touchpad on, and it looks brand new.

My wife's DV9548US was a display unit at Circuit City, has had the touchpad used for a year and a half, and looks brand new.

But after just a few hours on the 1651, the touchpad develops a shiny spot. While mine wasn't worn out, the level of wear it shows is unusual.

That is what happened for mine. It is very weird. I have heard of touchpads getting worn in a month or two not in 2 days.

Even my 3 years old inspiron touchpad is not worn. It really sucks. I think MSI have to do something regarding this.

I'm just surprised that such a design flaw had never gone widely noticed before. O_O

The GT627 and GT725 are basically rehashes o f the GX620/639 and GT735 chassises. Unless they did some cheapifying between the series, I'm surprised I haven't heard mass complaints before about this if it as widespread as it looks >.>

Yes, I am also surprised at this.

Reviewers and owners are complaining about the keyboard flex. It is not bad at all. Just a bit of flex if you press hard.

This touchpad issue is more annoying than the keyboard issue for me. You can't expect the touchpad to get worn in 2 days of use. I think even the reviewers could notice this.

May be it is just an issue with the newer msi notebooks.

Could somone take a screenshot, cuz that sounds really strange. Are you sure its just not grease/oil because those MSIs are complete fingerprint magnets. If it is worn down that strange, I don't think it effects the barebone builds becuase I have used my touchpad every day now and Im experiancing no wearing whatsoever.

If it is actual wear Id contact MSI for some reimbursement (*Free Game, Something)...

Maybe they changed the manufacturing process for the new G series notebooks(the GT627 and the GT725) hence why nobody who owned older models or barebones noticed it in widespread.

Because honestly, there are many many reviews of the GX620/GT735 and quite a few of the GT627 and to be honest, I'd expect at least ONE owner to have noticed it until now >.>

So either it's a problem with the new generation or something is off >.>

Can anyone owning an older MSI(the GX620/630 or GT735) confirm they have this issue??

Nah, my touchpad is still new coz of barely a dozen touches thats max, I use that laser mouse extensively.

Its my panel around the touchpad, actually its jus below the "Fn" and "Z" key, where there is a MSI sticker.

I E-mailed MSI about this particular problem but no answer so far, maybe every one should E-mail or contact MSI to show it's a ongoing problem.
Everyone expects normal wear and tear but this is a very unexpected problem that's unfortunate and almost unforgivable.
Don't get me wrong I love the performance potential on this laptop but I also don't want it to look like poop just after a few days.
I'm on the fence about this laptop now, don't know if it's worth paying big $$$ on this laptop only to see it look bad after a few days of use.
Personally I don't mind using a mouse but this shouldn't have to be the answer to this problem.
Here's hoping the problem will be resolved soon.

gees people just because the touchpad sucks doesn't make the laptop bad...i use a external mouse most of the time. but when i take it to class i'm force to use the touchpad and now it shows wear..gonna have happen sooner or later to all touchpad..by then you'll forget all about it to and live a happy life..so please don't let a quick worn touchpad discourage you from buying a wonderful MSI laptop :]

Well... this is bad. I didn't post here until now, but I see that mine is also going bad. First I thought that is an oil stain... unfortunately it is not. I've tried many of laptop cleaning detergents. The middle of my touchpad is worn now, and I used it so little. I have mouse and I always use it (you can't do gaming without one :)). I just used my touchpad maybe 4 or 5 times, when I used my laptop outside, but here we go ... it looks bad now...
Did somebody tried to find a replacement part?
The part number of the touchpad is K1C-1026016-J36, but I think that replacing this part with the same, but new is of no use. We need to find a compatible one from another manufacturer.

Not saying this laptop is bad, like I said I love it's performance but the touchpad thing is a big negative going against it.
I am still considering getting one, just having some doubts if this is the way I want to go.
I find the touchpad problem is worse to me than the keyboard flex problem.

Nope, the touchpad does not make the laptop bad at all. This is just a negative. I love my gt627 and I am not at all regretting that I bought it. I can live without the touchpad.

And the touchpad is just worn, not malfunctioned.

BTW using a mouse makes your work faster than using a touchpad lol :p

I dont mind the wear down to be honest, although it probably is grease, i use a screen cleaner and just rest it on the palm rest so i dont wear through the black material.

lol i know i mean... i own 4 msi's as of right now all are showing wear i also own 12-15 other notebooks at my office and none of them look like this. i have tried every cleaning agent that is safe and they DO NOT WORK. also wiping the touch pad a bit to much even with water on a microfiber rag will start to show a bit of black on the rag. so the coating it def coming off of there

Hi all, i've just had this laptop a few days and decided to use the mouse that came with it due to some wear on the touchpad, not sure if i'm doing something wrong but the mouse aint working for me at all, the left and right buttons work but it's not tracking at all (the pointer won't move). I guess i'm asking is it broke or am i being a bit thick and missing a setting, shouldn't it just work straight away once plugged in?
I installed the drivers but still no luck

I still say cutting out a screen protector is the easiest solution. You can find them anywhere for way cheap and as long as it is slightly bigger than the touchpad cut it down. I guess precision cut would be nice if it's cheap... but otherwise it seems a little ridiculous when you could just cut it yourself.

I also like the idea of a precision cut touchpad cover. Keep us informed about this zfactor.

My touchpad is completely worn by the way and I mostly use the laser mouse..

The thing is that MSI put a coating that was bound to come off.
HP, Acer, Dell dont use any glittery coating they are simple plain black.
MSI coating has some kind of glitter.(No use at all, so mine is still new)

Bt my panel is going worse, lot of finger and wrist prints and show up as oily spots on the panel.
Sumbody told to use Alcohol free monster cleaner bt I dont get these here.

Sumone said abt laser mouse, so see if u are using the right dpi(indicated by color on scroll).

for the brushed alum wristpad get meguires yellow "hi tech" wax. do not rub hard just a light swipe on and off. it makes it like new again and in between i use eagle one "WAX AS U DRY" it removes all the nasty grease and stuff and no residue left either and it add a layer of wax to help protect it from more wear

We use around 15 MSI Wind U100 Netbooks, the coating on all of these has worn down, within a few weeks, maybe sooner. They seem to function correctly, but the surface is a not as 'glidey'. However, we have 2 where the whole touchpad, buttons included, have just stopped working. We've had 4 batteries die too. We've also had a problem with a majority of them blue screening when connecting with any method, wireless, ethernet, usb broadband etc etc. I think this may be to do with the BT Access Manager software, but I'm still investigating. If anyone else is having similar issues it would be good to hear about it!
