I agree darth, I wonder if he is in maximum preformance mode and plugged in..lol. That does seem abit low..
-
I agree...It seenms rather low for a machine that is supposed to score more (better video memory and a quad processor)
-
well, as i remember from the 725 thread, out of box, none of the 725 hit 10k+. Maybe gfx drivers are the original ones from MSI(old), also i see it is done in 32bit mode(3gb mem). So i am not surprised. Tho i am probably getting it. Also no turbo mode.
-
true that, but as I read, 3d mark doesnt take into account RAM, so whether it's 3 or 4 Gb it doesnt matter
-
Yes , but it shows it is done in xp(32bit). People have had some gain in 64bit systems(win7)

Any chance you can take a pic of your card's readouts from GPU-z, or upload the BIOS using GPUz to pull it. Im interested in comparing your 1GB cards to mine (when my machine has been repaired) -
Just received confirmation from frostycomputers that it will arrive in mid September.... This is going to be a long wait
Butter30: can you tell me your full spec? Yours is different from US version (US version is a 'watered-down' spec, I'd say). -
Shame, guys, but I'm tired of waiting, so I canceled my order on the GT729 (ex-725), and just put the money towards my own build. Kinda sad that I'll miss out on all the fun, but I just can't take it anymore.
-
I wonder if it really worths waiting for weeks even months. US version won't come with Q9000, BD, & WUXGA 1920*1200 res. monitor, anyway. Should've ordered a Sager instead :/
-
The US version comes in 2 versions, #1, Q9000, WUXGA, Blu-Ray - #2, P8700, WSXGA..
-
Can you confirm this, please? My reseller told me there won't be Q9000+WUXGA version, for MSI has problem with LCD panel availability shortage. That's why he suggested me to get the P8700+WSXGA version, since it would take quite some time (min. 2 months) before Q9000+WUXGA version becomes available for US market.

You are correct the WUXGA version is not available and there is no eta if it will become available in the US. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
What's the ETA on the barebones (# 937-172226-049)?
-
Thats weird, I was told Mid September for both versions.. Odd...

Is the P8700 faster for most current gaming titles which only uses 2 cores?
Q9000 = 2x2.0Ghz = 4Ghz
P8700 = 2x2.53Gbz=5.06Ghz -
[email protected] Company Representative
Currently there is no eta on the barebone model. -
[email protected] Company Representative
It was mid-september and then that model was removed, only the GT729-248US is available now. -
And even after MSI cancelled the premium spec, they still can't provide the basic spec for US market on time, which is awful.
Rob, is this sort of delay common with MSI? -
Delays happen.
Unfortunately this is not exclusive to MSI.
Probably delayed because there are some sort of issues and I would rather have a system delayed than getting a buggy system that does not perform or work right.
It happens!
-
Can't quite make the comparison that easily. The biggest drawback of the Dual core is actually the cache IMO. Still, the two do get very similar game performance, and the only game currently the dual will be a little slow on is GTA IV, and with the MSI turbo function, I got very playable frame rates for that at good settings.
-
The P8700 has 3MB cache shared per 2 cores as does the Q9000. Thus, the Q9000 has no advantage in terms of L2 cache.
For example, in the Q9000, core 1 cannot access instructions in the cache for core 4. -
Should I be asking for a refund from Justin @ Xotic PC? They've already taken my payment for the WUXGA version preorder. I wouldn't have minded waiting another few weeks for the release, but you're suggesting that the WUXGA version won't be released at all?!
-
^^ At first I ordered a WUXGA+Q9000 version and immediately transferred the payment as soon as I had the chance, until I received that grim news from my reseller several weeks after I made my payment. Decided that with the current fund I just upgraded from P8700 to Q9000, minus 1920*1200 screen res. and Bluray drive, of course.
-
I do not believe that is the case. I know some Intel Quads are like that, but I don't think the q8/9 series is.
http://cache-www.intel.com/cd/00/00/38/07/380757_380757.pdf -
Core 2 Quads are two dual cores smacked together. While they can dynamically assign cache to a core, it can only be done in pairs.
See my example above, core 1 cannot use core 3 or core 4's cache. However, it can use all or part of the 3MB of cache that core 1 and 2 share.
One major advantage to the Core i7 architecture is that all 4 cores and cache are on a single die rather than two separate dies linked together -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Correct, the Core 2 Quad chips are two dual cores on a chip and in the realm of Quad Core computing, they don't use a real shared architecture like the Nehalem's where all the cores are really linked with each other and properly share resources.
While you technically do have 4 cores on one chip, it really is a crude implementation. -
Is there a way to pre-order the msi gt729 without transfering the payment now, but only when it'll ship or when they receive the mchine? you know just to have a reserved copy?
-
^^
Perhaps you might want to discuss with them first, who knows, since it's a preorder item, special case arrangement could be made. -
IS the release day still Middle September? or is it October now before windows7 release maybe? I originally pre-ordered the Gt628 but after it was discontinued, Im switching to the Gt729. 17 inch v.s 15.4 inch not that much difference is it?
-
I know the GT729 has been discontinued in the US..
-
Why is every notebook that I am looking forward to and is excited about discontinued? This really sucks...since I already paid them my money..and have no more money for a better laptop or anything else for that matter......
-

Get a refund and be on the lookout for a GT725 floating about in the supply channel or pick up a refurb. -
Hey,
I just got my GT 729 yesterday. Planning on doing a little review video for youtube in a few days.
Is there anything (eg benchmarks) i could run that would help anyone out?
If you just post a link to any (free program) that i could run, i can post the results (or a screenshot of them)
Jamie -
Take some pictures and make a video asap so we can see, write a review also..
-
Nice I was thinking of getting this laptop, instead of waiting for the new gt628. Is it worth it? And did you buy it in the U.S and from which supplier?
-
JamieJ:
Is yours an MSI NA version or MSI EU one?
-
I wonder if this is going to be out by the end of october . I hope to be able to order it then
-
I seen 2 refurbs on ebay but they were $1,199.00. Way to much..
-
Keep us updated, A review would be nice to see with some benchmarks..
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Agreed. Just stick around and wait it out if someone wants one. -
Well i sent a email to MSI to ask them when the GT729 is coming to the us this is the response i got back
Hi BJ,
I am sorry that we will not have the GT729 before the end of October.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Here's a video on the GT729:

So you saying the GT729 will not be release in October. this some bull. I'm tied of waiting and i'm gonna get a refund from xoitcpc
-
Wouldn't be suprised if a user that waited long enough got an i7 fitted book.
-
Then again, will the i7 fitted notebooks be any better compared to GT729 in performance? In other threads, they said that GT740/GT629 will have nVidia 250M? Still having doubts whether or not I should wait.
-
...I couldn't. I cancelled my order for the GT729BD and (after some serious consideration of the G51Vx and the upcoming Sager NP8690) went with the 14" Asus N81Vp-D1, using the balance of the funds I'd already wired to upgrade to an 80GB X-25M SSD - should be an awesome little all-rounder.
Good luck to those of you still holding out. -
Lol, yeah.....I stopped holding out a while ago....lol, I was seriously considering asking Xoticpc to refund my money...but then I decided to go for the Sager Np8662.
should be a great laptop!! Cant wait, im still waiting for it to come out of phase 2....lol
-
Seems weird.
I have my GT729-22CZ some time now. (from 24.8.09) And there is another batch of GT729-275CZ on way for less then 31000CZK (including taxes, 19%+"green" and OSA taxes)
26czk = 1euro
18czk = 1USD
Both ha C2Q9000 and WSXGA+ LCD. -
Seems downright suspicious, if you ask me!
