I have an msi gt780 dxr with a mata BD-MLT optical drive that I need to remove and send back because it's defective. My question is what steps should I take to properly remove it from my laptop, and can I use my laptop in the meantime while waiting for the replacement to be shipped to me.
    thanks in advance.

On the bottom of your notebook there's a screw next to a DVD drive icon in the plastic that needs to be removed.

Once the screw is removed the ODD can be slid out.The best way to slide it out is to eject the tray so you have something to grip.

The notebook works fine without an ODD.I have the ODD in an external USB box and an SSD in a caddy in the optical bay.I haven't used my ODD in over 2 years.
