I have called msi about my GT70 2OC and they do not know how to fix this issue. I have all the latest drivers/utilities/firmware. Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this:

    - When rebooting the laptop, the touchpad automatically disables itself. It will stay enabled long enough for me to type in my password to log into Windows 8 but as soon as I have passed the login screen and everything in the task bar finishes populating, the touchpad gets disabled (even when no external mouse is connected) and then I have to press the button next to the touchpad to re-enable it.

    - If I am using the laptop and I connect an external mouse, the touchpad gets disabled. Sometimes I re-enable it using the button so that I can use my touchpad while the mouse is connected. Then, when I disconnect the mouse, the laptop will react by disabling the touchpad (as it would if I were connecting a mouse)

I tried uninstalling the System Control Manager and this seemed to partially solve the problem. With no SCM, the laptop boots with an active trackpad, however, it will not de-activate the trackpad when connecting an external mouse.

Has MSI told you what they've tried? The trackpad doesn't sound defective; it sounds software related.

I've been having issues with the trackpad recently as well. After I updated to the latest firmware and bios the issues began. Never had a single issue before. Now sometimes it randomly isn't working and I can't enable or disable it via the scm or function key combo. Not sure what triggers the issue yet as it seems very random.

It is definitely a software issue. It did not happen when I received the laptop in December. However, I recently reinstalled Windows and downloaded all the new drivers from msi's website and this is when the issue began. I am waiting for msi to call me back but as of now they have no ideas....
