Hi,
I guess this question is mostly for downloads, but I just got an Intel 6300 in the mail. I was going to get a Linksys E4200, but then decided on the E3000 because a recertified model was less than half the price of the E4200 and about half the price of a brand new E3000. My question is, do I need the 3rd antenna since my router's potential is only 300Mbps? I have already done a display swap, so I'm confident that I can install the 3rd antenna. I just don't want to deal with the hassle if it's not really going to make a difference.

It won't make any difference to neither range not the throughput in this setup so save yourself the hassle and stick with two antennas for now.

Thanks downloads! + rep

Also, I thought you said something about trying different configurations, and that using 1 & 2 (two outer plugs) will most likely be the best way? Right now, it's oriented as 1(TR1), 3(TR3), 2(TR2).
-
The standard config would be to leave out the middle one.
-
Ok. Yikes, looks like I may have gotten a whitelisted one =(.
Intel 6300 FRU P/N: 60Y3193
This one only works with Lenovo/IBM? From what I've researched, it will only work with Lenovo notebooks, but my friend was using it in an Acer? -
Whitelists are in the Bios, not the hardware if i'm not mistaken. It should work just fine. The only company that i can imagine going crazy with the whitelists as well as making everything as proprietary as they can is fruit related
.

Well, whenever I google the P/N, it clearly states that it's for Lenovo/IBM/HP notebooks. Plus, I already tried it and it said unsupported on My intel wireless technology program. That's lame! I read that there are ways to remove whitelists, but I think that's way over my head.

Try to use Lenovo drivers.
-
I can't seem to find them...
They only let you search drivers by notebook model, and I can't find a 6300 specific one.
I tried the following links driver, but it didn't work.

Try these.
One of the notebooks that has 6300 as an option is ThinkPad T420- you can use this one to search for them in future. -

Or a Dell driver, I'm running the same card in a M17x, and definitely does make a difference with the 3rd antenna( if your roter supports 3x3).
-
Tried these drivers, but the adapter is still failing to start. If it is whitelisted, wouldn't that mean that it's something in BIOS that's restricting certain hardware and not in the drivers?
-
Whitelisting works the other way around- Lenovo BIOS allows only cards that are on their list and recognizes them by hardware ID.
So it would prevent a non-Lenovo Wi-Fi from working in a Lenovo notebook but not the other way around.
My guess what that the driver may not install due to different hardware ID and/or vendor ID on Lenovo card compared to Intel's own. -
nvm, D beat me to it while I was messing around in the lenovo site
-
You should be able to force the driver to install or try the lenovo one.
-
I'm not having trouble installing it...it's just not allowing the adapter to start. I tried several lenovo drivers to no avail. I might just pick up a bigfoot 1102 instead because it looks like it won't work according to many resellers.
