Am looking at getting the Linksys WRT54G2.
Would like to hear about its performance if anyone here is using this?
Also any other models for 802.11g would be great.
TIA

The G2 is an awesome Router...no issues here! I would definitely recommend it.

I would not recommend the g2.. Try to find an older wrt54g or wrt54gs with the dual external antennas.. then flash the linksys firmware with tomato or dd-wrt.. you will love the thing a lot more..

Isn't the G2 a newer version of the G without the external antenna? Also I've heard the range of the G2 is much better than the G?
Isn't it possible to flash the G2? -
Yes!
Yes!
and Yes!
It wins in every category compared to it's predecessor.
Why not?...I had doubts about the G2 seeing that there were no external antennas..I guess I just preffered to 'see' them; But I got my mom to pick up a Router for me at the store so I could flash it w/ the DD-WRT firmware and set it up as a Repeater Bridge. I specifically told her to get either the WRT54G, WRT54GS or WRT54GL and nothing else...well..she brought home the G2 and it is just an overall better router than my previous WRT54G. -

makaveli72,
Not trying to put down your router, but I read a detailed review on it and it doesn't seem too good/worth it for the money. I am not sure how you are going to put DD-WRT(WRT mini perhaps?) on this router, as it has the reduced flash and RAM memory that the later generation WRT54G routers suffer from. In fact the review I read says its essentially the same router as the WRT54G(later versions i.e 5+) without the external removable antennas. It actually has slower performance than the WRT54G version 5 in some areas.
Check out this review. Tell me what you think. You might want to consider returning that router and getting another one.
As was mentioned by another poster, I would suggest the OP to get an old version of the WRT54G(version 1 through 4) or the WRT54GS(version 1 through 3) and flash it with the DD-WRT, Tomato or another open source firmware. I spent a lot of time researching these older routers and they seem very good. I just ordered and set up a used WRT54GS version 1. The thing has 32 MB of RAM and 8MB of flash memory and I put Tomato on it. More than enough memory for the full version of the open source firmwares and then some. Works great and is a noticeable speed improvement(both wired and wireless) over my cheap Trendnet 432 router, range is better too. -
