Hi all. I have an Atheros AR8151 LAN port that is supposed to support Gigabit Ethernet. However, in the device properties, all I get is this:

My question is then: Does the AR8151 truly support Gigabit Ethernet, or is it just a marketing gimmick? I have the AR8151 on two laptops and both only support Fast Ethernet (100Mbps).

It supports 1gbps and the properties tab look OK. Usually auto gives you max speed if possible but you can't force it- it looks the same in Atheros and Broadcom drivers.
Is your router/switch capable of 1gbps, and is the Ethernet cable capable of that speed? -
Hmm that's weird... my desktop with Intel Gigabit LAN allows me to force 1Gbps in the device properties. My router is a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND which supports Gigabit Ethernet. My cable is a Cat 6 cable so no problems there.

Yes that's weird. The logic behind Broadcom's and Atheros' settings is- it will get to 1Gb/s automatically if possible so you can force only a lower speed.
Anyway- I have no idea what's wrong. Check if it works @ 1Gbps when only one Atheros-equipped computer is connected and Intel is disconnected. -
Got the same chip on my Acer 4820TG and it definitely supports 1Gig. It may be that officially according to the 1G ethernet spec only auto negotiation is allowed and Intel have fudged it a bit.
AR8151 1Gbps?
