Hey everybody, I'm from Canada and have been looking to get a laptop and I am starting to like the ASUS brand. I've been looking at this laptop:
Asus 14" Intel Core i5-2410M Laptop (U46E-HAL5) - Aluminum : 14" Laptops - Future Shop
I really like it, but I see under the specs for networking it shows 802.11n instead of the 802.11b/g/n. I don't really know about tech, so wondering if that's a huge downside because I'll be using a wireless signal.
Is that why its listed as HAL5 and not BAL5? Is this a watered down version or simply a typo? I really like the laptop but if this is a huge flaw, then should I just avoid it?
P.S. I checked my router and it says 802.11g/2.4GHz. So does that pretty much mean the laptop I linked above wouldn't be able to establish a wireless connection? If so, that sucks![]()

It's all backwards compatible which means 802.11n is in fact 802.11b/g/n (but not the other way around)

Oh really! Thanks! That definitely makes me feel better. So that laptop would be able to get the signal from my g router. And I assume the signal only gets as strong as the g and not the n.

Exactly, to achieve n speeds, you need a n compatible router.

It's not about the signal being strong- "g" is slower that's all. The range is not dependent on router being "n" or "g" contrary to what manufacturers claim- it depends on the router and its antennas and on transmit power (which is usually the same anyway)
