Hey guys,
Just got a M1730 XPS with Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card in it.
I'm about to buy a router for my house to set up wireless internet.
I don't know much about wireless but I believe that the n version is faster.
I'm thinking of upgrading my current card to the Intel a/g/n card and buying a n router.
Would I get much faster speeds with the n router vs keeping my current card and using the G router?
Also, I'll be taking the laptop to the university with me, will I get better speed if I upgrade cards?
Thanks.

Nevermind, google is my friend.

get a dlink router

you are limited to 54mbps w/ G, unless you have MIMO--> 108 w/ compatible card
w/ the Intel card and the linksys wrt600n dual band, dual radio router, you can probably hit the limit of N at 300mbps
and the wrt600n is on sale this week at BestBuy in the US for $179.99
check out smallnetbuilder.com for more information or click on the N Router Link in my sig........
hope this helps......... -
With N you may go up to 300Mbps if the using a 5GHz router, or >130Mbps if 2.4GHz router. However keep in mind the ISP speed, at University you may get higher speeds than home so you can take full advantage of your N nic card, but at home you may get a max of 20Mbps depending on the ISP, so G (54Mbps) will be more than sufficient.

^^^^ Not exaCTLY ALWAYS TRUE-- IF YOU HAVE A LINKSYS N single band 2.4GHZ router and a linksys N card/adapter, you can easily hit 270-300mbps. It just has to be the same make N card and router....
-
@alphafemale85: I meant the ISP side, you can have up to 300Mbps behind the router but not to the ISP connection.
What are your DL and UL throughput? -
True, if all he's using the router for is to connect to the internet. If he is using a slingbox, or any other type of massive Gb transfer within his network then N looks pretty nice.
Just a thought

duh........ that's a no brainer!! If you find an isp that provides 300mbps downloads, be sure and let us dummies all know
-
If you don't understand what I'm saying then I guess you are a dummy.
