Here is the problem, WLAN is shown in device manager as functional, it even can find networks in range and everything. But when I want to connect to a network it gets to a point when it asks me for the username and pass, and stops there. The error sometimes says that it can't identify the server or that i should just try to reconnect. I tried connecting to various networks, and I can't even make it tell me that my pass is wrong... It seems that it isn't able to communicate with the server. It passes Intel wlan tests until the 'association' test.
Rainstalling the drivers and/or the windows didn't help, any ideas? should I send it for RMA?
EDIT: solved itself, don't know how...

It asks for a username along w/ a password
I suggest try using Windows built-in Wireless Connection utility to manage the Wireless Connection. Update to the latest drivers; then disable the Intel service or stop it from being the primary Wireless Client utility by browsing through it's settings.
Do a Start--> Run and type services.msc and hit enter. Scroll to WLAN Auto Config, set the service to Automatic and Start it. Do Start--> Run and type ncpa.cpl and hit enter; right click your Wireless Adapter and choose Properties; at the bottom ensure both check marks are selected, then proceed to scroll down to Internet Protocol in the list, select it and choose Properties and ensure "Obtain Address Automatically....." are selected for both options.
Click ok, and ok; then at the bottom right hand corner of your screen click on the network connection icon, View Available Wireless networks and try connecting to yours again. It should just ask for an encryption key. -
thnx for your reply. I am using the windows built in utility, and that intel utility was installed just once (did multiple windows reinstallations trying to solve this). I also have the latest drivers installed. so basically, when trying to connect to a secured network, it asks for credentials and then fails to connect (gives no reason, just says try to reconnect), and when trying to connect to an unsecured network it just fails or tries to connect for a long period of time and then nothing.
it worked normally and one day it just stopped to work...
p.s. I'll try that WLAN auto config too. -
Hmm...I never heard about that one. Username/Password
-
wait a moment, that is like standard. you choose available connection, type in user+pass and you're in, no encryption code or anything =) (when you wlan card works properly, of course
)
-
so what's the username? I don't see where the username part comes in!
When connecting to a secured wireless network you enter an encryption key. Which people may refer to as a password or a passphrase. I don't know what username you're talking about.
* Unless you're trying to log into the Router's configuration settings!!! -
first, that's depending how the security is implemented, on our university, wlan for students uses user/pass to login (it uses 802.x WEP + PEAP security). Some other networks there use that 'encryption code' variation.
But all in all, today it just decided to connect normally, I didn't change a thing, just tried to connect as usual, and it did. That is strange but it's working now and I'm happy
thnx for trying to help (I didn't even manage to try it your way) -

It would have been nice if you had tell us you were at a university. There setups are different than connecting to a std AP.
Glads things started working. -
thnx. well, there I could catch other unsecured (and secured) networks and the problem persisted, so I didn't think that was relevant.
